I bought one of these yesterday as Miah has started big school dog training now. They were selling them at the training place and had a few different types and sizes. I mostly wear skirts without pockets, so this will be really handy as it can clip onto the top of my skirts. altho it will show of my big tummy at times eeek ! My Samsung Galaxy 4 will fit into one section of it and there's another separate area i can even put some jelly beans in it (in a bag) as I am an Insulin dependent diabetic, so handy for those times too! I often take Miah to the markets and don't always want to carry my handbag as well as hold her, so this pouch is perfect in so many way! I bought it in purple as thats Miah's accessory colours lol I was just googling about them to show someone a link about them and this thread came up in the search ! ;-))

I have a feeling Renae has this condition to some degree, probably not severely. One of her tests when she was having some liver issues showed some of her levels not being right , one of which pointed towards Cushings. She was put on medication at the time, more so for her liver and months later she is reasonably ok. She does crave food obsessively (even for a Cav) and does drink more now and does pant a fair bit even on colder days. I have read other posts in here about Cushings which people have said you need to have more specialized tests done. Shes 11 and since shes not too bad atm haven't chosen to put her through any more tests.. She does seem to have 'some' of the tell tale symptoms of Cushings. If you do a search this topic has come up quite a few times, you might find those threads also helpful.

We just trim around the pads under under the paws and maybe the tiniest bit of trim up if needed around the paws.

Since we have had Cavaliers we have only ever walked/trained them in harness's. They do have flat collars, but we feel they are more secure when out walking them with their leashes attached to their harness's . We have had no issues doing it this way :) Initially Miah was started out before we got her in a slip show collar . (the ones they use at shows?)

Our almost year young Cavalier has been getting raw roo mince mixed with raw veges as part of her diet (She doesn't get it every day), shes been doing fine on it but doesn't have huge amounts of it. No issues having it *touch wood* I buy it from our butchers and tell them its for my puppy, so Im not sure what grade it is. Ps Im a vego so I usually get my husband to mix her raw food up into rations, cant say its been overly smelly even when i put it into her bowl.

What Do You Do With Your Dogs When You Go Out?
julesluvscavs replied to a topic in General Dog Discussion
Its not often we go out together without our dogs . I'm home 99.9 of the time with them. But if we do go out its usually only for a short period. We always keep them inside (they have free range of the whole house). We leave a radio or tv going for background noise. On the rare occasion we have had to go our for longer periods of time then I have asked my parents to come up and dog sit them provided they are able too. That way they can go in and out of the house still and I know someone is still looking after them. -

This is the first flower on our Just Joey memorial rose bush that Michael and I bought as a result of a friend letting us know about this rose ! She also bought us a cutting but it still has to develop properly. We have to soon buy a nice pot/s to put them both in :) It does look a bit bigger in the photo as I took it fairly close up to it. -
Hi Rach, hows Takoda been going? been thinking of you both :) x

Confused As To What To Do Next?

She also bought us a cutting but it still has to develop properly. We have to soon buy a nice pot/s to put them both in Not sure what colour pots would suit them best? The rose looks a bit larger in the photo due to me being up close to it. -

Thank you Tassie, todays its been 2 weeks since he left us I keep looking at his grave and hoping he will come back out and be perfect again ;( x Thank you Helen x Hi Ranger, welcome to Dol :) Im sorry to hear your dog went in a similar way, thats so sad. I've had dogs in the past with tumours, but i have seen the tumour but with this I had no idea really. Who would have thought, and especially at his age Today its been 2 weeks since we said goodbye to our Joey, still find it very very hard to let go. I have health issues and its sure taken its toll on me. Yes and I know what you mean about questioning the lead up to it. A few weeks earlier to it coming to a head i had been a lady's place and she had a dog. I patted it a few times. I'm sure i washed my hands when I got back home. But later this lady said she had found a tick on her dog, we don't usually have ticks here in SA but it got me wondering did I bring one home and give it to Joey and thats what caused his death? I know thats unlikely but all sorts of things go through your head after doesn't it Thank You Tara and Sam , i keep thinking im dealing with it but my health and anxieties tell me otherwise. Who would have thought his number would up at only 9 years of age, I wouldn't have ( I have got the Just Joey rose bush now, it needs planting properly yet, but it does have one single rose on it thats opening up -
Gentle hugs for you and Takoda, Rach. Glad shes feeling much better now xoox

Hi Kismet :) Its very exciting when looking for a puppy ! I was in that position over a year ago and even tho I was known to some breeders already (as im a member of the Cavalier Club here in SA) I still had to go onto a waiting list like everybody else. Some breeds of dogs can take a while to get if the breeders don't breed their dogs that often. When we first were looking at getting our first Cavalier many years ago, I had rung up quite a few breeders and chatted to them personally and shown my interest. I even met them at a dog show but made sure I didn't bother them while they were getting ready to go into the ring. With our current puppy, I emailed several breeders over a long period of time and only had a couple replies , even after my follow up email to the other ones Luckily fate fell into place and one of the breeders we had known through the club was planning on having a litter and we were able to put our name on her list . We were placed high on her list as she did know us and she knew our background with owning Cavaliers (so that helped heaps in our case!) There was never any promises made that she would place one of them with us, it was dependent on how many her bitch had, and which ones she was going keep for showing etc.. But it worked out perfectly in the end and even tho we never once said which sex we were preferring, (as it didn't matter to us) she choose a female for us, which is what we really wanted deep down anyway! The only thing i was adamant about was that i wanted a particular colour , so it was also dependent on if her bitch had a puppy in that colour (and if the breeder wasn't after that colour also) If this hadn't worked out I would have had to start all over again, but it did thankfully. Sometimes it can take time and lots of effort to find the right puppy and the right breeder. Good Luck with finding your perfect puppy!

A Very Short Video Of Miah At The Beach
julesluvscavs replied to julesluvscavs's topic in General Dog Discussion
I've never heard of them Tassie ! Iv'e been out of the dog training game for years clicker training was only just starting to catch on when i retired from it all. I'll take a better look at those links Thank you :) Miahs only real flaw atm is she does tend to get a bit obsessive about things but the trainer said even tho thats NOT a good thing and not to be encouraged, its not entirely bad if its used to harness her energy and focus in a positive way (hence why I thought its best we get her enrolled soon!) -

Thank you Tassie Ironically I had been always looking around for the perfect obedience/agility dog when i was into all that, and was fitter. Now i have a dog that possibly could excel at all of those, and im not able to do it (due to chronic health problems, my spine being one of them) However thats fine, we will still be taking her to school, my husband will be helping and she can learn get to do aspects of all those things at the one we are planning on enrolling her at. They even do dancing with the dogs there too. Well see how we go. The instructor said her experienced daughter handler can help if Im not able to move around much. It will be great for all of us. Renae enjoyed her little outing too, she got to have some hot (warm chips) with us ;) -
Good to hear Marg, glad Lacey is on the mend. I would think it will take a while to heal properly. Better it was done while shes still young. One of my friend's Cav had it done also on both her patellas, but has since got arthritis a few years later which is being managed fairly well. Joey had been on carprofin but for different reasons. Keep healing Lacey ! and gentle cuddles from Renae, Miah and me x

Last weekend we took young Miah (pronounced as My ah) to the beach as we have been grieving over the loss of Joey, and thought we should all get out of the house for a little while. Took Renae as well as shes been a bit lost of late without her son Anyway Miah is growing up to be such a confident and outgoing young Cavalier. I could rave about her all day lol Shes been a real little blessing in our lives. Nothing seems to faze her *touch wood* and she loves everyone and every type of dog we have come across out and about. It will be her 1st birthday in Nov (same day as my husband and my 9th wedding anniversary) but we are going give her a party the following Saturday ;) This video only goes for about 26 secs i think. My husband didn't capture the last bit where the wave was coming in and it actually swamped them both lol There was also a whale further out, so luckily we had Miah on a leash or Im sure she would have gone in and chased it. I don't put anything past her . I think if we bought her a surboard/bodyboard, she's be one of those dogs what would get on it and try to ride it We are hoping to start her at a dog school very soon, she will love going and learning. (She's only done puppy kindy when she was much younger) And this is her in our car on the way to the beach.

I have always been under the impression that pups are supposed to stay with their Mother until at least 8 weeks under normal circumstances. Defiantly from registered breeders. When I was growing up (years ago) my parents were registered GSD breeders and their puppies never went to their new homes before 8 weeks and that was years ago. Theirs were always well socialized. It's good that you are asking for advice and want to do the right thing by your young one :) x

Hi Krislin, not meaning to scare you in any way and only because you are asking. but we noticed as Joey got iller, his yaps went from high pitch to a weird sounding low type ones Might have been as a result of being in pain tho and not being able to exert his vocal chords. With Renae, I haven't noticed any significant changes as shes got older (shes now 11) but the tone of her yap is deeper probably because of her being fully deaf now.. Probably like when you listen to a deaf person, the tone of their voice sounds different to ours. Its great Penny is doing fairly well given her age ! :)
