We used Flea Stoppers once and never again. Dogs were washed and then barely dried and then drenched in very pungent "dog cologne". The person doing it also went on and on about her "rare red mini poodles" and asking if I wanted one etc. I am much happier spending a few hours washing and drying them myself.

Wary Of A Particular Breed... Anyone Else...?
Mim replied to WillowGirl's topic in General Dog Discussion
I am wary of any dogs displaying stand-offish or possibly aggressive body language, regardless of their breed or mix of breeds. -

My fosters STUNK when we got them. The biscuits they were eating smelt like dog poo so no wonder they stunk too After a month on a raw diet they were smelling great and they looked so much better. Lucy now only has whiffy breath because her teeth aren't great. I am always paranoid that the house smells like dog. An acquaintance came over the other week and commented that the house didn't smell like dog at all (with no prompting) so it was a relief

I enjoyed reading that, thanks sandgrubber Very interesting.

If I recall correctly the packet says to give Comfortis with food, not 30 minutes after a meal? Dju, I'd say having the medication on an empty stomach could be the cause of the vomiting. Just keep an eye on him and if he continues to vomit or starts having other symptoms (not drinking/drinking more than usual/restless etc) then I'd go to the vet but I really think he'll be fine!

How Does Anyone Ever Actually Catch A Lost Dog?
Mim replied to Thelms's topic in General Dog Discussion
Luckily the majority of the stray dogs I've come across have been very friendly and approached me (in some cases launched themselves into me ) when I've crouched down, pat my legs and called them in a happy and excited voice. The few occasions that the dog has been fearful or warned me to back off I avoided eye contact and moved around as if I was completely ignoring them. Usually if you take a step forward, they take a step back so I've had success in slowly 'herding' them into a front yard (making sure there's no animals/people in there first) and then closing the gate to keep them in there, safely. Ring the ranger (I have two councils in my mobile contacts) and wait and supervise until they arrive. Once I encountered a dog displaying very aggressive body language so there was no way I was going to try my luck at approaching. All I could do was ring the ranger, let them know the dog could be difficult, and to hurry as I obviously couldn't catch the dog and prevent it running away. I watched the dog from a distance and luckily it was a quiet road so no cars came by and no other people or animals came by (which could have scared the dog away). Two rangers came and I ran off to work which I was late for -
The results of this poll are very interesting.. 55 people have voted "yes" to "When selecting a puppy/adult, is colour/pattern/markings of great importance to you?", yet only 19 people have voted that colour/pattern/markings are highly important to them.. Anyway, I would want to live with the puppy most suitable for me and my current dogs, regardless of colour (or gender for that matter) despite any preferences I may have.

I've missed something! Who's your 4th dog, kirty I don't envy your situation with this poor foster. I don't know what I'd do if it were me.

Male with 2 retained testes cost $600 (I think it included microchipping but can't remember). Male with 2 descended testes cost $200. These are adult pembroke welsh corgis, around 12-13kg at the time of desexing.

Midnight on a public holiday (typical) we rushed Daina to the vet thinking she had bloated. Her stomach was huge, she refused to walk, wouldn't settle and looked unhappy and scared. The emergency vet did 2 examinations, 20 minutes apart and an ultrasound and couldn't find a thing wrong with her but it was a case of better safe than sorry. The emergency vet said that although her stomach was large on arrival (by the time they were done with her her stomach had shrunk and she looked like she'd just eaten a big dinner) and felt tight, it was squishy on palpitation so a sign that it was not bloat. He said a bloated stomach will be very hard.

I have 8 bunnings compost panels that you guys can borrow for the occasion to make a huge puppy pen. Somebody would have to pick them up and drop them off, I also have a horse lunge lead somebody could borrow (I think it's 8m) so a pup could be lead on that, whilst still having lots of freedom to bounce about or do some recall training (the clip is heavy though so on a really small puppy maybe it'd be annoying).

With all you lucky WA DOLers having puppies at the moment I thought I'd let you know there's a huge play pen for sale on gumtree for $50 http://perth.gumtree.com.au/c-Pets-pet-supplies-pet-products-Large-Pet-Play-Pen-W0QQAdIdZ313690010 Great value considering that two compost packages from Bunnings (8 panels) costs about the same but is not nearly as big. I was tempted to get it myself but I won't have another puppy for a while and have no where to store it and even then, I already have play pens! I am a terrible impulse buyer

Gumtree.com.au also comes up for a lot of searches so putting an ad up there wouldn't hurt. I hope the girls are found safe very soon.

RiverStar-Aura, in breeds that have large erect ears (german shepherds, belgian shepherds, kelpies, corgis etc) you can get dogs with weak ear leather, floppy ears, soft ears, whatever you want to call it. My understanding is that soft ears runs in certain lines of dogs. Usually the ears go up on their own when the dog is a young puppy (and then go crazy during teething) but sometimes they need a bit of help, whether it be by ear massaging, taping, gluing etc. I don't really care that my older corgi boy has a floppy ear but I tried very hard to get my other boy's ears up as he is a longcoat and has very fluffy ears. Fluffy + floppy = ear infections and as he had his first infection at just 12 weeks old, I wanted to prevent him getting any more. With a lot of help I managed to get his ears up (and he hasn't had any infections) but they aren't strong like my other dogs' and if he gets wet, they get weighed down and droop Nekhbet, what a pity it didn't work! Can we have a photo of the pretty girl? You know, for educational purposes

How'd she go, nek?
