  1. if it were my dog - NO. It's not fair to either of them it will do your dog damage which could also lead to problems :( We must have met very different dogs , brought up in different ways :)
  2. Silkygirl - you have received advice from breeders with many many years of experience. You have received advice from those to who study and genetics is high on their list , from those involved in dog health , and from those who have been there, done that. I hope you take this advice seriously. Why follow the 'mob' ? if everyone else wanted to breed dogs after seeing that some of them had teeth missing, or a deformed toe , or a kinked tail ..would you follow? Why not go the path that may not be popular , or may not lead to you selling puppies - but that removes that wonky gene from the breed- and helps make the risk of another puppy having the same problem much lower? dogs are MEANT to be born with tear ducts that work . Simple.
  3. no it's not. it stops they eyes/sinuses from working as they are meant to. IMO "cosmetic" is a few dark hairs on a white coat ... or an ear which has a slight bend in the flap ..or when a patch of fur/hair grows back that different shade after being shaved for anaesthetic .... Why do you really need to breed? IF you are doing it because you love the breed , and wish to better the breed - you would be best not adding a defect into the mix. an example - and, yes , In My Opinion dogs with malfunctioning tear ducts /tear stains should not be bred from .... I am not a fan of breeds where this is considered almost "normal", sorry.
  4. Just stop for a minute - When your dogs are obviously in trouble , and especially when one has a liver problem .. they do NOT need any more chemicals in their bodies this is shown by you posting that Charlie vomits after treatment I'm afraid there is is no way I would be using anything on my dog regularly if he vomited afterwards :( Don't panic and, please, until you find another vet , do NOT throw extra insecticide etc at them - that will not help at present .. Pls find another vet.. do NOT treat them for anything until the new vet has seen them . It is no help at all just re dosing with things , if you don't have a diagnosis . take a fecal sample (fresh) to a new vet ... and see what happens there .The only thing I would suggest is that a sample be tested for WHIPWORMS . Colitis can be caused by many things ..and you would do better by taking things slowly ..getting tests done, and getting new eyes to have a look :)
  5. keep a diary Every day . walks grooming washing visitors time alone visiting a park medications House cleaning carpet cleaning/deodorising dog bedding change gardening weed spraying food treats ( incl human food ) bones water bowls washed/changed is there anything which seems to happen a day or so before they get sick?
  6. and this is what you would be passing on to other owners should any puppies have this problem Breeding is ideally about bettering the breed.. and helping correct mistakes...not breeding using stock with a known serious problem
  7. Any condition which requires surgery just to get a "normal' function does not need to be part of any gene pool.
  8. here is this morning's Don shot. and a reminder that he does have his own FB page ;) edit to add I do so love that face ................ and the laughs ...and the fact that having one lab grandparent shows so well in carrying toys everywhere, chewing :/ and drooling! :) Oh - and cuddliness :)
  9. for her chewing - why not give her chicken wings /carcasses? those bones are much softer than nylabone ..and much healthier :) Hope the vet visit goes well.
  10. kohbi1 sandra's post was excellent! I hope your Skye was bred carefully , and will stay happy & healthy. :) We would love to see photos, that's kind of mandatory if you have a new pup/dog ;)
  11. I also suggest a vet visit before the weekend , as things always seem to be needed when the vet isn't around
  12. Betadine is the BEST :) I use a betadine wash , and then betadine liquid.
  13. A beagle ? That's different! Hope you can have a meet & greet if all sounds perfect.
  14. welcome :) if you CLICK HERE - you will find discussion :)
  15. ..and remember to do things in very short bursts :) two minutes ..maybe 5 to start with ... focus/concentration needs to be built up and solid BEFORE there are distractions :) Practice in a boring room ..then move it gradually to other situations remember - keep things short & sharp :)
  16. that's a VERY heroic thing :) The "accidental hero" type stuff. Don has given me a new perspective, that's for sure!!
  17. Yep :) ..and hold the water dish as well at first .
  18. how long have they had pup? how old is pup? does everything work? ears/eyes ? What is pup's favourite thing to experience/do/eat? have they tried K9 pro's Triangle of Temptation?
  19. Staffyluv - I remember that time ... he is a gorjus lad :)
  20. My nanny dog , an A C D X saved me from snakes on a couple of occasions - one which I remember - I was about 4 years old. Our Lab we had after him - well, she would 'tell tales' - if we were doing something silly ..or trying to sneak away ..or fighting ..she would always go get Mum! Such a goody goody
  21. Don't get me wrong :) I love labs - worked training them for more years than I care to remember ..and The only thing which would put me off having one again is the endless shedding .... but as backyard 'pets' they grow out of that sloppy looselimbed cuddly stage and become strong, and often fat/large , and when folks do NOT train them , they can be a handful. Add to that the hormone factor ..and often these rehomed boys are frustrated, uneducated slobs.
