  1. Hmm..I'm not the most aesthetic of people- tend to "make do" I would perhaps in a hurry .. make a drop down black shadecloth curtain ..to extend almost to the ground ... and so provide a visual barrier..and perhaps make her unsure .. trellising attached to teh top of the fence/gate. I would worry a LOT about collar or feet getting caught on the top palings .... :) bet she was !!
  2. I remember years ago , a singleton fat lab puppy ... I was advised to use a figure-of-eight soft "hobble" on her front legs for some hours each day . It was fiddly .. and she was not yet at walking age ..but it worked :) She was really bad , too. You could also try warm water physio.... warm water .. hold puppy gently to support, and let those little legs work. I would think he is sleeping/tired as his body is very short on oxygen /circulation, with his heart & lungs so constricted in that flat chest Wishing you all the best in helping him survive.
  3. I have spoken so many times with people on this issue . When there are family difficulties , or a young dog causing havoc ..all owners want to do is to make sure dog finds a home. They are worried that ,with a price tag , it may not ..and they are often of the opinion that pounds/shelters are the devil's work. My suggestion is always to put a price on the dog ..and if the new owner does seem perfect, then just say 'no, you don't need to pay" .
  4. Hmmmm .. (oh, and WELCOME) there are some whippeteers on D O L , hopefully they will see your post (maybe change it to WHIPPETS ?) I had a quick look and could only find some heart issues .. have a read ofTHIS THREAD..there may be something you can use?
  5. Oh Dear Can her previous owner help, or was she from a pound ? All I can suggest is that you buy/make a strong roofed/floored pen/cage maybe look at gumtree? I found THIS CAGE which just need a floor and kennel ..... or your local freecycle ....
  6. Why do you think she can't scale the fence? What sort of fence is it ? what sort of dog is she ? Do you have any photos of the fence/gate area ? It must be a real worry when she does that
  7. It's a pretty natural thing, really .. how do young animals learn hunting/foraging behaviours? usually by observation , then practice - and if the reward value is high ..they do it again , and perfect it. Dogs really are equipped with all that's needed to do lots of tasks /to communicate on different levels - it's just that often humans don't 'see' it unless those skills are associated with some sort of common human tools/behaviours :)..and then we compare .
  8. What does he eat , aside from food? Hamlet eats cat & poultry poo..and he reeks!!
  9. :) yes. Kinda like the friend you want at your side in a bar or somewhere :)
  10. All the more reason to get professional help/assessment IMO. Hope it works out.
  11. That is something to smile about :D Good news!
  12. I like to think he was protecting a pack member .. our dogs will often shoulder bump another dog away if they are being rough with pups
  13. yep. and watching him set the arc in motion at that spot more than once would have made more impact :)
  14. ..Cute video, however, that may have been a one-off . It would have been more convincing for me had the pup had been videoed as he did this several times , after an owner moved the hose away slightly , so there was no arc :)
  15. Awww.. now, he will never do anything naughty , you know that :p You can just tell by that face!!
  16. Hearing loss can make dogs do odd things as well ... Hopefully your vet is sympathetic, thorough ,and has everyone's welfare at heart .
  17. Ta, tlc... he's a nice old boy . CC.. I prefer the lighting in that last one :) Lovely.
  18. Leo , sleeping in the late afternoon sun (he is hamlet's 1/2 brother). photo taken today. The other recent ones posted are terrific ..and show just how backlight differs, and teh differences it makes .. to the subjects :) This is a nice thread!
  19. How are things today ? Ticks can hide in ears, between toes, under collars, on lips, in the anus- all sorts of places
  20. ...I guess you would be a bit surprised and shocked ..when everyone was having such a great time . Think on what may have happened if the lady had actually seen a larger dog attacking a small one , and decided it was none of her business.. Hopefully , if she DOES see such an incident , she will once again step in .
  21. :) ..Hmmm I do need some more irrigation channels !!
  22. I've been thinking about Cooper .. and one other suggestion if he gets very uncomfortable and has troubles .. is total removal of that useless femoral head completely . I have seen this done .. they vet I worked for used to do it in almost keyhole surgery (dogs which had heaps of pain ) and dogs went out of the clinic next day with wagging tails :) He is still a baby ..still developing , and , if he were mine, I would not hurry to book any surgery . Why not make an appointment with a specialist at Werribbee Vet hospital , and discuss it . ? Oh -, BTW, what were the elbow Xray results? Werribee can examine those xrays , and probably do their own if the wrong angles, etc were used in the originals ...
