  1. Agree -my dogs would do the same .. but this isn't your dog, or mine . this dog did have a child draped over her , which makes running away difficult - and she did not bite. and I agree with greyt's post ..
  2. Welcome - you have an interesting pair of dogs :) A laundry for hours and hours is a pretty boring and sterile environment for a very smart and active breed puppy .. perhaps leave puppy outside, and older dog inside ? IMO, at 4 mths pups need to be running and sniffing and digging and rolling and watching birds & clouds . I would hesitate to suggest you leave a no bark collar on a puppy , especially as pup may well be barking thru anxiety /boredom . Hopefully someone will come along with a suggestion that suits ...
  3. Sounds like you have a nice family :) you might get some ideas/explanations from stuff in this ebook CLICK HERE
  4. Don't laugh.. back in the 'old days ' bodies out bush here always had to be well covered or locked away somewhere before the cats found them ....
  5. A very helpful post from mita :) altho I have reservations about this , being there is a small dog also in the yard . I think adding a high value treat might not be ideal...
  6. Which is why we recommend you a trainer to come to your home and work with you ;)
  7. maybe... or maybe that he knows that he can get in ... and is obviously fairly desperate to do so , he may now try & scratch, knock ,bite at the door , or perhaps windows. Hopefully he does not attempt to jump fences. poor boy.. he sounds a bit frantic ... is he chipped in your name in case he does get out? Must admit - I wouldn't be leaving a large unknown young dog unsupervised all day with a small one . Does she have somewhere that she can use to get away from him? If you let us know whereabouts you live, we may recommend you a good trainer who can help you personally with this settling in time :)
  8. If she LOVES her food - perhaps feed her or give her a chewie treat then wet her down gradually ?
  9. It's scary!! How old is your pup? Unless she is really filthy - she doesn't need many baths .. if she is a short coated dog - a good brush every day, and wipe over with a damp microfibre cloth to remove dust/loose hair may be all she needs for a few weeks ... I usually start pups off outside .. standing on a firm non slip surface (ground is best ) .. and obviously on leash . I have everything ready .. usually just a bucket full of warm water to begin.. then I show pup the jug ..fill it with warm water.. and gently tip it over pup's feet/legs , and backside ..while massaging, patting pup , and talking ... then I do shoulders and belly , NOT stopping if pup carries on .... finally , I wet my hand and rub it over the head/ears a couple of times .. then use a towel , and release pup with heaps of praise . I have two 5 mth olds here who will stand under a hose to be washed , or go in a laundry tub .. no soap or anything, they don't need it .. but just because it's so HOT here :)
  10. I'm glad you came back :) Debate? on D O L ? LOL! It's what happens - Hopefully your girl will feel more comfortable as the days pass .. she probably has a heap of bruising etc which will be making her very sore . Sounds like absolute rest is the ideal ... poor girl Glad you know of the other dog owners, and are going to speak with them. I hope you have photos etc , just in case you need proof of stuff at some stage . best of luck with it all...
  11. One attempt is not enough, MtS . let them get really hungry .... feed them a couple of small cut off pieces and make like you are feeding them something special ..let them taste that it is food . no way would I let my dogs get away with one taste attempt at new food .. if they don't like something, it gets chopped up and mixed in with something they do like .. and then gradually more is introduced ... if your dogs are hungry , they will enjoy it :)
  12. ..this why my dog is usually on a long line ... the faster his legs go, the less his ears work
  13. Great to hear :) keep us posted on his progress !
  14. Not on tables or beds - that's all .
  15. you are going to be amazingly FIT ... ideally a baby puppy needs to be taken outside at least every hour ..more frequently if you don't stay outside long enough ,and he toilets when you get back inside ... I will suggest that immediately the pup comes home you watch him outside ..watch where he toilets , use a word that suits , and praise immediately. next time .. same place, same word , and so on. Eventually the word can be used to trigger the dog to toilet ..and makes everyone's life a lot easier ;)
  16. ..and unfortunately, greys have no hairy ruff/loose skin to act as a protecting layer, either
  17. members, erny and /or cosmolo can probably help you ...
