Don't Know How Vets And Vet Nurses Do It
persephone replied to jr_inoz's topic in General Dog Discussion
Slightly OT For many years we reared joeys to adulthood on cow's milk .. powdered! it was all we had- the formulae hadn't been invented then! Most of them did ok -
Shilo Is Seriously Sick. Last Update.
persephone replied to Rascalmyshadow's topic in Health / Nutrition / Grooming
My first thought was MENINGITIS. Can't remember who, but someone on here posted about their dog with it a while ago.... perhaps suggest it to the vet? I did some looking, and found : LINK I hope they discover a cause , and can get her on the road to recovery soon. -
Good luck at the vet this morning!

Don't Know How Vets And Vet Nurses Do It
persephone replied to jr_inoz's topic in General Dog Discussion
It can be sad... but there are lots of good ones too I think one of the saddest I can remember was when an old man tottered in, with a little birdcage ..his 'mate' - all he had in his flat ..his long time companion . A dear old canary , who unfortunately had had a stroke or something ..and actually died in the vet's hand as he was examining it It was just awful... we were all in tears, and seeing that old man wander out again with the empty bird cage swinging in his hand ... I will never forget it. Sometimes, with the sad, there is some comfort, too - one person brought in a litter of baby puppies, just a few days old .Unwanted ..could we 'sort it out'. (this was 20 something years ago.....) They were fat, shiny little things ....we did actually quickly check for a foster mum ..but no luck. I put them in a warm bed.. we injected them in the abdominal cavity ..and they snuggled up to each other and just went gently to sleep.... I like to think they went as peacefully and kindly as we could send them.... I'm glad you visit was short & easy -
..Just keep him quiet, and relaxed..is he still eating etc? There are lots of reasons! Knee problems, hip problems, foot problems, muscle problems....Definitely vet in the morning , poor old fella.
-
It will heal... just don't fuss over him too much - keep the ice on for however long was advised...and give him lots of bones etc to occupy him

A flat collar/martingale/harness - whatever you buy , YOU need to learn WHY it works , and HOW and WHEN to use it correctly . That is really important ... To address a problem of pulling, a puppy owner needs to understand why puppy is pulling ... what needs to be done to correct it,and how to carry out the actions involved. For example - a puppy who wants to play needs to be handled differently to a puppy who is being a bit pushy/wants to bully another ...and differently again to a puppy whose excitement/ pulling is because they want to submit /appease.....

Kirislin.. I have mostly soft pics... point/shoot cameras ,plus slack post processing (often none). I do love LIGHTROOM though.. for correcting/finding what my simple cameras miss Sharpening is something I rarely do ..but very occasionally I will do a light sharpen of a landscape in PICASA

Found THIS From HERE

Kirislin... I think that image we see here is not what came out of the camera ..cos it HAS to be resized down so it can be posted ? When images are resized, they do lose some quality- which is why folks resize then do some adjusting if needed, I think.... Oh- and out the two posted together- I prefer the first one- before editing

What did the instructor/supervisor at the class tell you ? Ideally ,you should be doing LOTS of practice walking on flat collar/lead at home..around the yard, in the house..rewarding a loose leash, praising your puppy ..so she gets used to walking that way without all the distractions!! Puppies/dogs can be trained to a very high standard on an ordinary flat collar. training a puppy/dog is all to do with the person holding the end of the leash - NOT what the dog is wearing You might get some ideas from reading this page CLICK HERE

Man Finds Dog In Block Of Ice On Lawn
persephone replied to silentchild's topic in Dog Cruelty and Abuse News
perhaps doggie went to get a drink, fell in... and drowned? In Winter there it would freeze over pretty quickly ..and I guess the bin owners would want it gone! just one vague possibility...... -
When Mum's eating.. the dogs sit.stare and get bits & pieces. When I 'm eating... no one bothers me hamlet is a right PITA most times.. but I can sit alongside him eating something while on (his) couch, watching TV ..and he will not move/gaze or anything. I can have him with his head in my lap..and use his head as a table ..he just goes to sleep!!

Feeding Well On A Budget
persephone replied to CazReiAndKuma's topic in Health / Nutrition / Grooming
Supermarkets may sell bones(flaps/necks etc ) I buy stuff from our IGA only about $4 a kg! Chicken carcasses are cheap ..and a meal! Supercoat or Bonnie is ok... but for the cost of teeth scaling..you could have bought a uteload of bones!! -
I would worry more about the hot metal floor of the tray on pads , than a breeze ruffling the dog's coat .

Rescue Dog Aggression Problems With Dogs
persephone replied to breezy's topic in Training / Obedience / Dog Sports
Good ,if difficult decision, Breezy . perhaps if you ask some of the rescuers on here, they may know of a lovely dog who will fit in with you well? Best of luck . -
Not a concern unless it's in the middle of Winter, I would think .... when I guess he wouldn't be at the beach?
-
perhaps put the person concerned under the tonneau cover ,start the motor and reverse /go forward for a couple of minutes?
-
Ermmm.. NO. as said fumes heat restricted amount of fresh air no vision and who has a breathable leather tonneau cover?? :oThey are usually synthetic ..and waterproof (airproof) Unless you are travelling in temps close to zero- I would not think of hypothermia ...

I think this pup would benefit from a new home ... Just my 2C worth... it sounds as tho your sister and her husband are frustrated and floundering ..and unless they get someone in to help...and have the dedication/patience to carry out instructions to the letter , they ,and the pup will continue to fail, feel awful, and so the cycle continues I feel for them, and the pup ....

OT- all creatures, I'm glad you don't smack your dogs.. that isn't a very useful training tool A prong collar, used with knowledge, can be very useful with some dogs ..and is no more 'cruel' than other training tools when used correctly perhaps do some research ? Do a search on here- there are several public discussions , for a start :D

Need Advice - Dog Forgotten Toilet Training
persephone replied to MolassesLass's topic in Training / Obedience / Dog Sports
Can the deck area be fenced off at least, so she's not messing close to the house? Would they consider bringing her inside on a leash .. ? A vet check would be a good plan... and perhaps, if all ok, get someone to actually take her out of the yard occasionally? -
Lucky he was, Horus - you and your spotties gave him a lovely few years Run free -smile big, Lucky !
