  1. kennel cough is a virus. AB's are only used if there is a secondary infection, AFAIK . Dogs with kennel cough can cough lots, or only when excited/being walked ...it depends on teh dog, and the severity of the bug.It also depends on what sort of collar they wear, and if they are walked, pulling on collar, because the collar will aggravate the inflammation exactly in the right/wrong spot..and cause coughing...so will sudden cold air..barking and excitement :D I don't know about the diarrhoea- haven't noticed it in KC cases I remember ,sorry. I was taught that KC lasts about 3 weeks without treatment, and 21 days with treatment :D That was a while ago ... I think now, with more options, there may be a shorter duration.... I have seen on here folks advising teh use of MANUKA honey to help soothe the throat, and help heal.
  2. A lot of folks 'could' do it , but they should not have to ..and if the dog is a working dog,and on various drugs then safety could be compromised
  3. IMO, no way should she be a part of the GD training program Ongoing health issues, special diets, costs of vet/medications ..and a dog who has physical symptoms are not what a visually impaired person signs up for ;)
  4. especially, as D is now 'in solitary' ,effectively ...
  5. Sorry about Drakey- but killing/eating a duck/chook/guinea, is something a lot of our dogs would do/have done, given the opportunity - however they do not have the behaviours shown by D, which , to me, are more worrying. ;) Thinking of you...
  6. A muzzle in which a dog cannot bark, is also one in which a dog cannot pant to cool itself, or drink ;) ;) I don't think muzzling a pup will teach it not to bark It may though just give it something else to be concerned about. I would not recommend such a course of action .
  7. I've not heard of a dog 'growing out' of a skin condition... have GD's spoken of a dermatologist appointment ?
  8. Oh I just saw this as well. I thought pups could not be sold under 8 weeks? They need that extra couple of weeks with their Mum/littermates for all sorts of reasons......
  9. Thanks for the good update, blondeborder! Lucky babies
  10. I don't do them often.. but Hamlet knows when I get a few sheets of paper towel ... he just stands there ... It only takes about 20 seconds , and then he's happy
  11. If he's a pup... he looks like an Akita something?
  12. They are gorgeous colours Flowers are tricky darn things- I find petal edges get in the way of focussing ... so I try & set the focus on the stamens etc right in the centre , then cross my fingers . The flowers in teh 3rd pic are just so pretty - the soft colour and they look tiny
  13. if you can get kangaroo tails .. or pig/sheep heads, or even perhaps freeze a lamb flap ?
  14. I don't know much about it, but would perhaps urge caution of using this in a young pup/dog who is still developing.A belly band is no guaranteed way to stop a dog mating a bitch
  15. she perhaps needs some meals on-the-bone ..so she has to use all her teeth in a side gnawing motion lots of gristly meaty chewing ?
  16. Yep - two weeks is NOTHING if there are long standing issues to resolve
  17. Doesn't really matter what breed she is - what DOES matter is the temperament with which she was born, her early socialisation, her age now, and the experience of the new owners. The bolded bits I think are due to her upbringing.... she has probably not ever been TAUGHT these things! What is known of her history? Had she lived all her life at the farm? Was she a happy confident dog? was she a worker? if so , was she good at it ,and happy to be penned afterwards? Did she show any of this behaviour at her previous home? The situation does need to be carefully assessed by a professional. two weeks is not enough time for a dog showing these behaviours to become a settled and affectionate dog , IMO.In fact, if she is of a sensitive and nervous type- two weeks in a new and stressful environment may do just the opposite edit to say I agree with this : I don't think it's fair on the poor dog , or the new owners.
  18. Your dog possibly never used to dig because he wasn't a teenager What walking/training does he get each day? How often do you change /rotate his toys?
  19. I don't trust 'lists' ... every dog is individual ... I think all dogs are as intelligent as they need to be to live life as a dog Sighthounds have a way of relating to the world which may differ from that of a scenthound ..and a retriever may well see things differently to a terrier - but they all have what dogs need to survive Judging a dog's intelligence by what they appear to do in the human realm ? Not sure.... That heeler sounds as though he has found a job which he enjoys and gets rewarded by - good for him!
  20. of course he has! if you offered your toddler a jam donut instead of pureed spinach and zucchini ... I wonder which he would choose? LOL as said-- STOP feeding extras . give him his food somewhere uninterrupted and do not give in!
  21. hopefully, then with age and strength, she will learn to do much more
