  1. I am sorry you lost your old girl like that If you get another cat ..please also build a secure, dog/cat proof enclosure ...so the cat is NEVER in danger from roaming toms, or dogs at your house/in your yard.
  2. but they don't stay COLD .... like a wrapped icebrick. I have had litters here do very well outdoors in 40 degrees ..with an ice brick or two always available have photos somewhere!
  3. Sorry, but having problems coping with one pup's minor chewing/training is NOT at all a good reason for getting another pup. learn from this pup.... research, practice, practice, research .Discipline YOURSELVES to puppy proof the house, learn all you can do about how dogs think/learn/develop and learn to think DOG ..they do not see life as we do. Leaving thongs out as a 'test' ?Yep. Now puppy KNOWS that thongs are great to chew puppies do fret if their pack is gone - especially if they have been given lots of freedoms and attention when they first came to their owners.....one day all that sweet talk/cuddling/closeness/guidance is gone...and if a pup has not been taught to be a bit independent ...then they may take a while to learn it . Chewing is how pups learn about their world!! it is an essential part of growing up. puppies NEED to chew bones,toys,dirt,grass...all sorts of tastes/textures. It is how they learn about what is in their environment. babies can do exactly the same using sensitive fingers/toes (and their mouths). Puppies only have mouths .
  4. Ice bricks in sox ... or the 2 litre juice bottle full of water & frozen ..also with an 'explorer sock pulled up over them
  5. aahh that makes sense now. A lesson learnt the hard way, and paid for dearly.
  6. After reading your reply , my gut feeling would be to give her her wings- it is a decision hard to make, and painful to carry out , I know . However, she is not free to enjoy life to the full ... you are continually on edge and worrying , and if you have the other dog who is biddable, social and settled, then he is also being subjected to all sorts of 'bad' vibes. To obtain the services/advice of a good trainer, and to apply that advice will not be a miracle cure, as you are aware ..and will require a lot of time & effort from you. Chaining her may increase her frustration and drive , and cause more problems I do not envy you your position, and hope whatever you decide brings you peace ,and knowledge that you did the responsible thing.
  7. Sounds a bit odd.... our working dog bitches whelped outside even in Winter .. no artificial heating .. a whelping bitch generates a LOT of warmth!! We have never lost a newborn to chilling... Poor little mites .
  8. Hi - You DO need a secure floored and roofed enclosure for this dog. No question. You also need to enlist the services of the best professional you can find to work with you and your dog .If you need recommendations, just let us know where you are, and someone will probably give you the name of a professional.
  9. Glad you had a nice visit re:the bunnings pen.. good idea...but I have one concern. A pen so high will allow her to stand on hind legs up against the fence... a big NO NO after knee surgery make sure the roof of the pen is just high enough for her to sit comfortably ...NOT be able to ry & stand two legged .
  10. Lyn- he is NOT naughty. Naughty is when a pup KNOWS the rules, and then breaks them.Your puppy does not yet know human rules .... What your puppy is doing is playing ....as he would have with his littermates! Puppies bounce, and nip, and run, and yip. When a puppy does this too hard to its mum or a brother/sister, they will growl and perhaps the mother will nip him ... he gets told!! Use a LOW voice .... and remember, puppies live IN THE MOMENT. By the time you yell at him, pick him up, and put him in his crate.... he has NO idea why Lyn- what did you research before you got your very cute puppy? Did you read some bits about how dogs behave? Did you read all about your chosen breed, and what they may be like? apologies if you have done all this In your post, you seemed so surprised and a bit angry that your pup did this............... when it is absolutely perfectly normal CLICK HERE and have a read also, CLICK HERE
  11. My mini cards were about 21 AUD incl postage- for 100. I am so looking forward to getting them
  12. I ordered some minis today I have some of a friend's rattling round in my camera bag etc.. they've been there for ages, with no peeling ..mind you- no body heat, either, like a pocket.
  13. !!!!!Surely you jest!! $2k would be a stud fee...certainly not a sale price ! Tsk, tsk....
  14. Heartlessness? Maybe for some... I certainly do not stop on a busy road if I see a 'dead' bird .If I see one struggling, yes. But one lying there ..I presume severe injury leading to death , and don't stop. Perhaps they thought it was dead, and there was nothing they could do? roos I stop and do a pouch check, and pull bodies of emus/roos off the road so that vehicles do not hit them and cause an accident
  15. Terrier cross - with that 'windswept' look
  16. Only advice I have is a vet visit .Don't start mucking about with diet yet.. find out what it is ,first If the vet only advises steroids/creams , ask for a referral to a dermatologist and get it sorted properly! it may be very simple, just needing a nutritional supplement/change of food .. but it may not, too .
  17. shortstep - I honestly think you will get more topic related discussion if you edit the title of the thread and remove the hype words Then, those who pop in will be the ones genuinely interested :D
  18. and how will you judge that? I looked at it because I wanted to know why cryptorchidism made the news
  19. The pup needs to be vet checked.. and , as PF said, collect a fresh sample and take with you . Stop fiddling with diet, until you know what the problem is, too
