Which breeds attract you generally ? Do you like fluff, or huge, or stocky, or working , or racing sleek ? night time is when there are odd noises/stray cats /possums etc around , and pup/dog learns very quickly to bark and/or chase , because there's nothing stopping them Being outside alone all day and all night is an excellent way to teach a dog bad habits . being a dog owner can be an amazing experience because of the bonds which grow These bonds, and mutual understanding , mean that training/communication becomes second nature ..and you become a pair . Sadly , only physically being in the same space for 5 or so hrs a day will slow down this process somewhat , IMHO . A dog who shares resting/sleeping time with its human, and vice versa, absorbs the sounds, scents and rhythms A dog who spends nights indoors is not annoying neighbours with its barking , or learning to chase cats either LOL. Millions of dogs have humans who work ... then those humans spend hours walking/training/visiting friends/shopping etc with their dog when not working ! That's how a good dog+human relationship works :D

double merle breeding ? don't do it . One can end up with a beast like this - hearing is fine ..except for sound location ..that's fairly casual . sight is not bad..but eyes are malformed..one in particular .... In his litter were 1 red, 1 black with dark eyes,(both with white collars/sox) 2 dark blue merle each with 1 blue eye ..and Pudden . he is mine .

This poor girl needs a VET opinion . Sorry ... you cannot do much to help unless you know what the problems are . She does sound as if she's in awful pain . best of luck - what a terrible situation .

Agree with rebanne Talk about feeding with her breeder first ..then buy/adjust as needed . She definitely won't need rice "milk"..and nice LARGE raw bones are the best toothbrush/teething aid around ! Looking forward to photos

I am wondering if it is a more organic problem ..like senility ...an eye problem, or a hearing problem . Ageing in any animal can result in all sorts of processes not working as they should ...sending odd messages ...misinterpreting what IS seen/heard/smelt .. There is also the possibility of a growth somewhere .... Pain can be a factor ..glucosamine & that sort of thing take weeks to help, if they are going to .Hope whatever else the vet is using will help with the actual pain . Is your vet interested in /a specialist in geriatric dogs? maybe a second opinion with someone who is would be a plan ? and sensible management seems a very wise idea .Well Done . Make sure though,Old dog is comfortable ..has all his usual treats etc ....& is kept calm ..he's obviously not feeling happy or comfortable .

Building a nice solid enclosure ..dog specific ensures your dog's safety in all sorts of situations - I wouldn't hesitate ...provide shade/shelter/environmental enrichment /tough toys Dog has his OWN space ..where he has access to his favourite toys and treats ...he is safe, children are safe ..there can be no incidents/accidents - and he enjoys time indoors/walking/running whatever with you as usual . One of my dogs wears a muzzle when we are away from home ( we live in the bush) - as he will pick up all sorts of rubbish/rotten things . Muzzles aren't a problem

previous question merele is a desirable marking for dogs ... and many have been produced because of this , sadly only produced FOR the markings/colours . klw... take yourself to some meetings/shows & meet & greet some shelties & their owners/breeders This will enable you to much better see different lines & what they have to offer you ..size/colours/coat.....temperament ;)

that's not good news at all.. she must be feeling poorly , indeed. AFAIK plain yoghurt is only mildly acidic ..less so than bread and milk and egg ....and nowhere near as acidic as a dog's tummy All I can suggest is that you get a couple of chicken carcasses , and an oxtail ..boil and simmer for a couple hours in not a lot of water with some carrot, celery ,parsley ( quite a lot) in it . strain , til you have a lovely rich liquid ..concentrated is GOOD ..as there will be collagen and protein and iron & allsorts in there . Keep solids aside ..when she starts eating ..pull off any meat bits to eat with vege bits See if she'll drink it ..or syringe it in slowly ..keep in fridge Sorry, can't be any more help.
