  1. IMO heartworm protection is not needed here on SA at all. I have never treated any of mine or my rescue dogs.
  2. So sorry to hear of your loss of Emma RIP gorgeous girl. My boy also has been diagnosed with Osteosarcoma recently, after being in remission so long after having chemo for lymphoma Cancer just sucks :(
  3. There is not an infinite number of rescue spots. Unless dogs are being rehomed as fast as they are coming in them eventually rescues will be full and unable to take on any new dogs. Also many dogs taken from BH will not be quick rehomers due to size/ breed. Very little information about the BH dogs doesn't help either with getting them to rescue. Is there anyone out there who can test the dogs with cats, other dogs etc any history, training they may have? Anything that may be an issue? For the lenghth of time some have been there, I would assume there is more known about the dogs?
  4. Sometimes it kinder to euthanize dogs humanely, than have them live a life of hell in a shelter like this one!
  5. I have 4 - Sadly Ruger, 9 years, won't be around for too much longer after recently being diagnosed with Osteosarcoma, 2.5 years after having chemo for Lymphoma My 2 Shar pei are 6 & 7 years old. Dexter my long term, mixed breed, foster dog is 2 years. ..and fingers crossed, the puppy I've been waiting 3 years for, may be on the way!
  6. Mum is approx 7 years old and gets on well with kids, cats and other small pets. All are healthy but from the photos we have, pups appear to still be on the dirty bedding they were born on. They are being brought down to Adelaide from the country in the next day or 2 to a temporary carer but we need a more permanent place for them to stay.
  7. Adelaide All Breed Dog Rescue Inc urgently need a foster carer for a Cattle dog bitch and her 10, 4 week old pups. They are currently living in terrible conditions and need help asap.Foster care will be needed for 4-5 weeks and we can supply all food, crates, puppy pens, blankets, wormers, etc everything that is needed for their care. We prefer to keep them in the Southern suburbs, but at this stage we will consider all areas. We also have many volunteers who can help with washing bedding , feeding, and spending time with them all. We cover all vet costs too. If you can help please send us an email [email protected] Thank you!!
  8. After being diagnosed with Lymphoma, having chemo and doing so well, Ruger has now been diagnosed with Osteosarcoma He's still very happy, and appears healthy for now. There is not much we can do for him now, but have him on painkillers and keep him comfortable, but he is really on limited time now Not fair that's he's copped it again with a different type of cancer
  9. So sorry to hear of Bisons passing DR... RIP gorgeous boy!!
  10. I will be there with some of our rescue dogs :) We always need helpers to get more rescue dogs out and about, if you're interested in borrowing one for the day?
  11. Thanks for posting this for me Skitch :) When I received the call about the pup, I had mentioned to the owner that I would try and see if mum would feed the pup and take her too,if needed, but by the time I got there, half an hour later they said mum had been moved I have no idea where? They werent keen to tell me. I took the pup as they were over bottle feeding her and couldnt do it anymore. She is very healthy and has now joined a family of Dachshunds :) If her new mum doesnt accept her, the breeder will continue with bottle feeding her! Huge thanks to the breeder for taking her on. Our little Pixie :D Staffy x
  12. I dont agree that only experienced dog owners should get a Shar pei & that they arent for first time dog owners. IMO it depends on the owner and like any breed they need training & socialisation. I find Shar pei are so much easier than many other breeds, as they arent needy, they are very independant & are not high energy, they are quite calm dogs who are just as happy to sleep, than go for a run or walk :) They are stubborn but fairly easy to train too!
  13. If they can email us, we have a few other dogs that may suit, that are not listed on Petrescue yet :) [email protected]
  14. Teddy sounds like he may be what they are looking for Hes adorable and is very well behaved. His carer has 2 dogs, cats & kids and Ted has been no problem at all :) I just this boy!! He's had a lot of interest, but no meets organised yet, so if they are interested in meeting him, please get them to send us an email as Im sure he wont be with us for long.
  15. Sorry for the late update on Chance! His name is now Bentley & he found an excellent forever home a few weeks after arriving in care with us! His new owner has sent us a new photos of him Hes doing great & we will catch up with him and his new owners soon! I cant wait to see him again, hes such a stunning looking boy now, compared to how he arrived at the pound
  16. Hi Guys! Our latest gorgeous rescue boy, Rambo the Wolfie x Great Dane has double jointed hocks! It doesnt appear to affect him at all, but it looks awful to watch him walk, but when he trots or runs its not obvious at all & he seems in no discomfit at all. Has anyone else had experience with this? Are there any greater risks with pain or arthritis? as it doesnt seem to affect him at all! His foster carer has fallen in love with him,but would love some further info on this issue before he commits to adopting him! Thanks for any feedback... The 2nd photo shows how his hocks are affected
  17. If your on Facebook, check out the page Rare & extinct breeds.... Seems to be lots of photos & a few breeders posting on there :)
  18. Great to hear Bison is still doing well Its been nearly 2 years now since Ruger started his Chemo & hes still very happy & healthy :D
  19. Heres the list of Shelters/Rescue groups for SA on Petrescue :D http://www.petrescue.com.au/rescue_directory/sa Gap have a couple of greyhounds listed
  20. Poor little boy, I had no idea he was in such bad condition when he arrived at the pound. Wow its amazing the difference in such a short time, the pound and his carer have done a great job looking after him to the pound staff & Rita his carer!! Hes being spoilt here, and will have the best life now I have posted a video of him onto my facebook page...now I just need to work out how to post it here :)
