Bilbo Baggins replied to Boronia's topic in In The News
Have not been in for a few days. at finding the shoes, at least you got a pair. Once you are well, what would be the chanes of getting a caravan on the block?? At least you would not have to pay extra rent. The Goat herder disguised as a black and tan cav got her first points on Sunday. -

Thats good Rebanne. I did pick up a bit of other peoples rubish when I packed up on Sunday. -
Recently we did not enter a girl in a show because the partner of the breeder was doing GS, had judged another group. At this point intime I am sure he does not know BBJ from Adam but we did not wnat to put him in that situation if our girl had of got a class in group.

Young ones crated until toilet trained, around 6 months. Free range night and day through an animal door. All sleep on the bed ours and the daughter, she has to shut them in her room or they will join the clan in our room.

Cavaliers. Last litter 02/02/2010. 1 girl 3 boys. Whelped in heated whelping box in the lougeroom beside the TV. Loungeroom off kitchen. Whelping box has high sides so the pups can stay in there until about 4 weeks, when they twig to stand on crush bar to aid in escape route. Then they move into a puppy pen which is on a sheet of clear plastic over the carpet. Inside newspaper layers. They live there until they go to new homes. Other dogs not kept away by me, that is decided by the new mother who growls when not impressed and the "visitor" backs off. By day 3 mum is usually glad to have the matriach Wil take over for a few minutes. Extended time outside from 4 weeks depending on the weather. This litter was a problem as it was extremely hot. I only had it heated for about 24 hours then I put a heat pad at one end and frozen gel packs at the other. Covered with vet bed which this was the second litter I have used it for, previously used towels and newspaper and eggcarton foam. I aslo left the evaporative cooling running all day and night, and also had a fan moving the air around but not directly on the pups. I weigh them twice a day around the same time. (Reasearch project plus I am a maternal and child health nurse ) Morning weigh and back to Mum. In the evening after weighing I have a cuddle of all of them, have them on their back, stroke between the toes and pads and general stimulation. Lougeroom has natural night all day. Winter litters ducted heating on around 16 degrees day and night and heating in whelping box until they come out into puppy pen. Pupping pen is fairly close to ducted heating outlet and they often curl up in the corner closest to that but sometimes do not. Edited to add the bits I forgot.

I had a serious think about this while driving on the weekend. My thoughts are that we organize a letter and we send it to all clubs. For this year the shows that have not been gazzeted it can be added in and for all next year. I suggest as a start only offer class 18/18A and add the others as it gets more popular. Please add you name to the list to be involved. I will then set a email tree. My email is [email protected] People wishing to be involved with getting Neuter Class Rolling. I soooo wanted to steal this little girl - she is a glorious baby rottweiler, and I was so pleased to be able to show her to a baby in group for her owner I thought maybe her owner could take the ribbon and I could keep the puppy, but nooooo :p I got to meet Bilbo Baggins and Bilbo Baggins Junior this weekend, so that was great Totally exhausted from cooking some obscene amount of breakfasts - you hungry people, you! Feonix took out two 11 point challenges, to my absolute delight, and now I think I will go away and sleep for a week Hope people enjoyed themselves - we managed to keep the rain away over the weekend, but it's a pity that we also managed to get an inch of rain on Friday afternoon  so we still had the annual Wangaratta mud pit, but at least we had sunny days instead of rain It was great to meet you Allerzeit, even if we did have a misscommunication over breakfast on Sunday before I meet you. Breakfast was awesome both days really appreciated it. Whole show was very enjoyable and it it was great the the rain gods stayed in Melbourne. ;) Not good for OH's sasauge Sizzle though. :D -
Bought my tickets yersterday.

This is the content of an email from a friend who had a GSD with problems. The pustules are "puppy pimples". I never had a case of it with any of my dogs until Tara ... and she got "puppy BOILS", not pimples. Typical Tara ... has to get the worst of something. *chuckle* They'll go with antibiotics, so nothing to worry about there. The discharge will be related to the puppy pimples as well I'd say, as well as any other "water works" problems the wee thing (no pun intended) is experiencing. As for the gullet problems, I'd definitely get the dog's throat x-rayed to determine/rule out Mega E. There's heaps on the I/net, but this is as good a place to start as anywhere ... http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Megaesophagus If the owner gets a "yes", I'd be happy to chat re my experience if they're going to keep the dog. Dogs with this condition don't live long. I got the diag only just a week before my beautiful girl died. My vet at the time had 7 years to diag but didn't. Clearly, I changed vets straight after Zena died. She killed my cat Max the year before after a GA that went horribly wrong. Any hoo .... An x-ray showed Zena's throat was 4 times it's normal size. Food would hit her stomach & come straight back up again. She shouldn't have lived past 12 months but I got her to 7.5 years with very careful management. As "luck" would have it, I'd been feeding her by the prescribed method for the condition for all those years without having had the Mega E diag. Taking on a dog with this condition is very time consuming & you have to be very, very careful with food, exercise, eating, etc, etc, etc. For me it was a labour of love & I didn't regret having to go the extra distance for Zena for one second of her short life because of what she gave me in return. As you know, for starters, without Zena, there would be no treats business. I hope this helps. I hope the dog doesn't have Mega E. If it does though, my very best wishes & support for giving this dog the healthiest life they can give it for as long as it lives.

Thank you - I have asked for it to be moved!!! Ah good. I have heard back from my friend. I will tell her thread is moved.

NewMum I have sent an email to someone about the swolling. She will not be able to reply in here. I suggest you get Troy to move this to General as only breeders can reply to this thread. You can reply as you started it.

The stud dogs I have used is 3 mating 2 days apart. One time I used the same dog over 2 girls so I was at his place every night. By day 3 he knew the time and the minute I started walking up the path he made a beeline for the front door. Usually 3 to 7 pups.
