  1. Being chipped overseas should not be an issue. Quarantine dictate the chip standard so it can be read by Australian scanners, and the owner just adds it to a national database for a small charge.
  2. I think you are ok under the regulations Part II, 12.18 (vii) which gives an exemption for helping someone with 2 exhibits in a line up but you would need to read it yourself and ring the office if unsure. Of course if your relationship with the judge goes further than that one handling episode you need to think about the bigger picture.
  3. I had thought that when I got too old for young dogs I would take on elderly dogs of my lifelong breed who need a home. I love old dogs. But I have come to realise that by the time that happens I will be unable to physically deal with such a large geriatric dog, lifting them if they need it, helping them into the car, etc. I can't see myself wanting a dog that is not of any of my favourite breeds, all of which are large, so I guess it will be cat time, lol.
  4. Two reasons I assume. Firstly because the simple and obvious fix is just that NSW require national database to be checked and that doesn't require any national agreement or Commonwealth intervention. And secondly it isn't a Commonwealth responsibility and resources are screwed down too tight in most Commonwealth depts these days to intervene in non core areas unless political will compels it. NSW should just fix its own problem.
  5. Thanks, I have stocked up on the venison and fish as it is a firm favourite. I like the sound of the mackerel and lamb though.
  6. Are you sure it isn't just his occiput? In some breeds it can be quite noticable, but I don't know about springers. Perhaps call your dog's breeder and ask.
  7. No, my dogs have done fine on tinned and dry Ziwipeak. They are not a breed much prone to allergies though, none of them are allergic to anything.
  8. The person who claimed the pug was stolen has now been charged with making a false report to police. The whereabouts of the pug is still unknown.
  9. Can't help with the chemist, but are you sure 15 ml will only last a month? There should be 300 drops in 15 ml, 10 drops a day is a high dose.
  10. That is encouraging. I always see a few around here, Bassett, Samoyed, Keeshond, Viszla, GSP, GSD, Beagle, JRT. And the cross breeds are SWFs or working style rather than designer. But I will look out for more.
  11. I was underlining high cost as the comparison between taking them to the US vs taking them to Aust. Much more cost effective to take them to US and the outcomes for the dogs are just as good or better. So yes I think as an organised network it would be crazy to bring here, especially given the difficulty of raising the funds just to take them to the more straightforward US option. If an individual wants to bring a dog here, and has someone to look after them in an approved country for the required 6 months post rabies vac, and raises resources to transport and quarantine, then of course they do what ever they want. Really one should be able to express a view without pc labels like judgemental being thrown around, attempting to silence other views is pointless.
  12. Borzoi rescue international brings abandoned dogs of the breed into the U S A from Korea, Russia etc, often needing vet treatment they aren't receiving in their original circumstances. Very dedicated people who get support from the breed community, lots of money spent on a few dogs but it is their breed, their prerogative. It would be crazy to bring them into Aust though, quarantine would add so much more expense and degree of difficulty.
  13. Most tracking, trailing and search dogs are trained to locate humans and things carrying human scent, either by using a scent object belonging to the person, looking for the most recent human scent or searching an area for human scent (or cadaver scent). They aren't going to know that this time you want to find the dog when they have previously been taught to ignore other animals while working. Maybe as RuralPug says if there was a scent article for that dog, but otherwise they will not know what you want. Heat also destroys scent, so tracking in these conditions after so long would be very problematic. They could search, bearing in mind they need to know they are searching for a dog, but if the dog did have its mouth taped shut and that tape has not been removed, it is long dead anyway. Probably any dog that likes hunting out dead things could find it but for no purpose. I hope it was a hoax, or a muzzle which allowed panting and drinking.
  14. My adult dogs get an egg most days, usually raw. I have heard not to routinely feed more than 1 per 10 kg body weight per day but not sure of source. Anyway at 30 and 40 kilos I am well within that. With puppies don't overdo it.
  15. It took one of mine 10 months to get over losing a life long companion, even though I have another younger dog as well.
  16. She only goes when I think she is dropping a lot of coat, so a few times a year. I do her myself the rest of the time. I am using Isabel's in Phillip.
  17. I think developing an allergic response to dogs later in life if you haven't had one previously is probably uncommon, and it is the dog saliva etc that causes the problem generally rather than hair itself. You can get tested to find out if it is dogs causing it and if your asthma is bad that would probably be worth it so you really know what you are dealing with. I am asthmatic from a family of asthmatics, it is a dangerous disease you need to manage carefully as it can flip from inconvenient to life threatening, as one of my family found out. This spring is going to be very bad for allergies with all the grass growth. Often the small fine grass pollens are big culprits. Or dust mites. To manage hair I vacuum or sweep daily. I have mine sleep in the house but not in the bedroom. Yes groomers will just wash, brush and blow dry if you want- my oldest girl has a very big coat now and I get her done periodically to keep the shedding down. Easier on my back too.
  18. "run for profit". That might be our saviour, I dont know any dog breeders who breed for profit. They only have to amend the definition
