  1. Similiar to what Possum said.. I took a photo of my tree with 500D with the following settings; At night, One light on from the side(quite dim). Shutter speed I think was around 15-20sec, definately need a tripod. I had the lights flashing as well, I found they looked nicer. I experimented with fstop but higher I think was the go (16ish). Just experiment alot! I had lots of fun with the long exposures and making the lights look sparkly and nice
  2. My cat Lily very unimpressed with me trying to put a santa hat on her
  3. Here is a portrait of a cute little crocodile from healesville sanctuary
  4. Another one of my cheeky bird
  5. I took this photo of my parrot not too long ago :D She makes for a good subject when she is in a good mood.
  6. I know how frustrating it is, taking photos of animals/birds is even harder than people/still photography, they move and can be gone so quickly! I guess taking lots of practice shots of birds in the sky, you will only get better!
  7. I think taking photos of birds in the sky is one of the hardest things to do! I found when taking photos of birds, higher iso is really needed, it is so hard to get good photos when it is a very quick opportunity n you cant play around with the settings. Well done on getting the photos you did get, I especially like the first photo
  8. Hi guys, pretty new to photography, took this photo yesterday and I love it :D I think i took it on AV mode as I was mostly using that yesterday as I am trying to learn more about all the modes. It lost alot of detail through compressing it, Im not sure of the best way to post the best detailed photos.
  9. Hi guys took these photos at Melbourne Zoo. Any advice is welcome!

  12. Hey Missymoo, yep I have just started there in the last month or so so may not of met you yet! I only know Trish lives out that way, Sue might but she has been on holidays the entire time I have been working so I havent really spoken to her much so not sure! Im pretty sure I havent met you as I get quite excited when a lovely purebred walks in (i still love the crossbreds to! But I like seeing pure doggies) and I havent met any lovely cairn terriers yet! When i do, they get as many hugs n pats as I can get away with
  13. Wantirna Vet Clinic.... the vets are very thorough and genuinely want to help owners and their pets
  14. Honestly, if your regular vet does a fair few orthopaedic surgeries, they should be fine to do it. Chris Preston is a good specialist and he would do far more than your average vet so I guess it depends on how much you trust your regular vet.
  15. Can you be a bit more specific? There are heaps of vets in metro melb
  16. Well done on speaking up If the puppy had of ingested more it definately could have been life threatening! Some people are just so unaware of how to care for their pets
  17. Dog's heart rates can vary so so much! I wouldnt worry at all 120-130 is perfectly normal.
  18. Definately agree with you stormie. I consider myself to be a nurse that is quite open minded and knowledgable yet I have met some nurses that cant even identify what I would consider to be an identifiable breed (e.g. Lhasa Apso, Saluki) and just dont seem to care too much! I am now going to do some reading on titre testing
  19. To be honest, if there were no fleas or no sign of fleas, i dont think it sounds like flea allergy dermatitis. With true FAD there is usually a huge amount of scratching, red irritated skin, basically a huge reaction. This to me sounds more like a contact allergy of some sort, have you ruled this out? Especially with licking the paws/stomach. Maybe bring this up with your vet Edit: Sorry forgot to answer your original question, make sure you choose a flea prevention and stick with it, dont skip months and try do it every month or so. The best way to deal with the environment is to make sure she cant get to areas such as under the house where fleas love to live. Also vacuuming underneath furniture, close to the walls will encourage the fleas to hatch out and then they will die when they jump on your dog (this may not be the best way if she does actually have flea allergy as it could exacerbate the problem) Revolution should be working within 24 hrs, 48hrs at the most. It may affect the effectiveness but it shouldnt if you got most of it on the skin. If your unsure, you can reapply the revolution in 2 weeks.
  20. Unfortunately parvo smell is horrible and without proper air circulation, will hang around and it is disgusting! I can assure you that regardless of the amount of cleaning, that smell will hang around for a bit. Now if it was just normal mess (faeces, urine, vomit) and there was still a bad smell, I would think it wasnt cleaned properly but again, if it was very bad, and no air circulation, the smell can still linger a little.
  21. Also remember that even if you still are seeing fleas in 2 weeks time, you need to keep up with the treatments. Also if your animals have access to under the house (where the stray cat might go) try and prevent that access if you can. Unfortunately if the stray cat has fleas, it will be spreading flea eggs allllllllllllllll over your backyard so definately keep all your animals on treatments (dont just stop when you see no more fleas) Edit: I dont think capstar + sentinel would be better. Capstar only has a very short amount of time that it continues working (when it does work it is brilliant) and after it stops working, sentinel will "sterilise" the females but wont kill them.Capstar also doesnt kill any eggs or larvae so they would begin hatching out again in no time.
  22. It is a very routine procedure, I would say that if it is a basic dental scale & polish, it is less complicated than desexing. Depending on the vet, they should be able to do a basic scale & polish in 10 - 20mins maybe even quicker.
  23. I was talking to a vet at work, and for females, it goes something like this First season: small increase in chance of pyometra, other hormonal related problems Second season: larger increase in chance of pyometra, other hormonal related problems Third season: same chance as getting pyometra, other hormonal problems as if the female were entire her full life. Dont ask me for references, just going off what my vet said. Im not too sure about an entire bitch who gets bred having less problems than an entire bitch that doesnt get bred.
  24. Hey Munchin Just wanted to try reassure you a little bit... At my work we often are putting 10+ animals under anaesthesia and while some of them may take a little longer to wake up, most of them are fine with the anaesthesia. As long as you have a good vet and they are constantly monitoring your boy, he should be fine
