  1. I work full-time and wasn't offended. I must have read the first post differently to others because I assumed the OP was referring to long hours alone as an only dog (puppy) rather than full-time workers who have other dogs or have made provisions. I'm lucky I can do some work from home, and I have other dogs of course - very unlikely I will ever have just one dog again. But if I was working long hours away from home everyday and had no other dogs then I wouldn't get a young puppy.
  2. I got a memory foam bed for my dogs because I wanted something that wouldn't aggravate spinal issues. The normal round beds were no good because they would sink down in the middle and twist the spine, then I tried the flat foam beds (like a mattress) but the dogs wouldn't sleep on them. I ended up ordering a K&H ortho bed from the US which has sides and has held its shape pretty well and provides support, although I stuffed something underneath the foam to raise it a bit more. Another one I've got which Kayla loves is the snooza jack's bed, though it doesn't provide as much support as the ortho bed because it's filled with stuffing rather than memory foam. But it doesn't twist her spine like the round beds do.
  3. Mainly just what you said before, making sure the area is clean and drying it thoroughly. Also keeping her weight down - Annie is only a small dog, but the times when her skin became infected was when she was heavier than usual (not excessively, just slightly overweight). Because her vulva is tucked in a bit, I'm guessing the little extra weight made it easier for urine to get trapped there. She's down to her previous weight again now so it will be interesting to see if she gets it again...hopefully not!
  4. One of my dogs has had perivulvar dermatitis caused by the deep skin folds around her vulva. The skin was infected so she was put on antibiotics. Her symptom was mainly licking, no scooting.
  5. Apparently the reason they stopped selling it here was because it didn't meet requirements for the kidney diet...that's what I was told when I asked a vet about it a few months ago.
  6. Aloe vera may help too but I've only used it on small red patches not large areas, because it's a bit sticky (I get the gel straight from the plant). The calendula tea might be better if he's itchy all over.
  7. Agree with what perse said earlier, I would be taking him back to the vet.
  8. Eukanuba make a Renal dry food but the pieces are quite big and round, so if your dog doesn't like big pieces it may not be suitable. But it has a different flavour (different ingredients) to the k/d. Your vet might have to order it in. RC used to make a kidney dry food but it was discontinued. I tried the home made diet for my dog but it didn't seem to have much flavour, it's pretty bland. Vitamin b injections may help his appetite, just ask your vet when you take him back.
  9. Oh what devastating news. I'm sorry to hear that. It's a good thing you have some time off now, you can spend a lot of quality time with both of them. Take care.
  10. Love all the pics in this thread, but this one is just beautiful! Such a lovely expression on his face.
  11. Sorry I have no advice but just want to say I hope you are able to get some answers. All the best with the treatment for both of your dogs.
  12. I had one dog come back very low for parvo and I chose to vaccinate with C3. Although, having read more about it since then, if I was faced with the same situation now then I'd probably do nothing and retest at a later date. There is a bit about it in one of the links in the parvo topic thread.
  13. Agree with the others that suggested going back to the vet for another chat. There are a few different medications for dementia and supplements that you could try.
  14. Seems like it must be an uncommon side effect? Anyway I ended up contacting the manufacturer and have heard back from them now so that's eased my mind a bit...the thought of intestinal bleeding was a worry!
  15. Does peptosyl change the colour of dog's poos? Annie has had watery diarrhea, but since starting the peptosyl last night (after vet visit) she's not running outside to toilet as often but her poop this morning was very dark in colour. Can peptosyl do this? The vet is not too worried because she is otherwise well in herself, but I'm still worried...
  16. Lucky it wasn't more serious! Eye problems are a worry. Glad she's ok anyway. :)
  17. I sometimes get dry food from petstock in Mornington when they have the 20% off for members sales.
  18. Most days they get off lead time, but on secure private property. Maxie has excellent recall but the girls don't - Kayla is losing her hearing so not safe for her to be off lead, and Annie is small, very fast, and has a very high prey drive, so even though I have done a lot of recall training with her, there is no way I would take the risk of having her off lead in other areas. Safety comes first IMO.
  19. Wherever they want. Maxie is always on the bed in the same spot. Annie is usually on the bed but is a bit more adventurous and occasionally starts off on one of the various dog beds before getting up on the bed. Kayla has chosen to sleep in the study with the light on ever since her main vestibular episode a few months ago, and it's only recently that she's felt comfortable enough to move to different rooms and beds again during the night.

  22. Just wondering if another type of nsaid, or a strong cortisone like dexamethasone, would provide greater pain relief?
