  1. I think people forget the OP first dog a Cavie is a hunting breed & a true sporting spaniel so if your going to suggest breeds due to hunting history the Cavie is a no no & yes i have seen plenty of cavies with good sporting traits & hunt well . My first question would be how much exposure has your Cavie had to big dogs & how does it interact with them.Does it enjoy the rough & tumble or prefer a more laid back playmate . Something to keep in mind if your plan is to have the 2 dogs live happily together. I agree with others the 2 breeds you have selected are like chalk & cheese to live with so maybe list the pros/cons of the 2 breeds that make you want to own them . Going to a dogshow would be a good start aswell not only will you see the breeds in public it will also make you decide what you prefer or maybe see other breeds you never considered .
  2. You maybe need to ask once the show has started & people can tell you from the Cat if any are entered whether they turn up is another thing >Royals aren't at the top of the list for dogshow people to attend especially with giant breeds
  3. Cavies make great pets but they can snore, the shed like crazy & need regular brushing ,If these things aren't an issue then they can certainly be on the good pet list . We board & groom many Cavoodles & whilst most have lovely natures there coats are your worst nightmare .The temps can be one or the other so its important to understand both breeds & basically figure out what you can get in the middle,They often have bad mouths because of the cross in jaw structure & this can cause issues & expense . Are there any other breeds you have considered
  4. But who says it truly was DA ?? Mals approaching other dogs do it in a manner that to others may seem aggressive so really without knowing the facts i wouldn't be quick to judge . They may have been more worried about your dog approaching them with no owner i now i get peeved when dogs wonder up to mine & take protective action I have a dog here who is very social but is full on when approached & as such i take great care ,his play method alone could hurt a dog or create an issue & people presume the worse. There dog was onlead your dog wasn't turn the tables ^ these people may have experienced an issue with an offleash dog
  5. For me if i have a pup that in my opinion wishes to sit more than stand i am straight off to my bowen lady to get them checked. My theory is a sore pup will not stand & no amount of practice will make it happen so all my pups get checked to ensure there isn't something sore & making them want to sit more. If there not sore then great but with my larger breed pups i tend to not worry alot as often there body is not ready to support all that weight so its got to be made fun with a little help . All mine get table stacked from pups to adults,i find it easier on my back & they learn quicker & i have no issues with them following through in the ring & yes i will table my large breed babies till 4 months
  6. A friend has lost her dog in the storms please look out for https://www.facebook.com/photo.php?fbid=491244004288756&set=a.100349970044830.462.100002094811382&type=1&theater&notif_t=like
  7. I have never used the stackers & personally have no desire i have seen more issues created than good but it is each to there own . Baiting to high is generally the first major issue & no amount of training will make it work if you do this wrong. Alot depends if the pup is sitting more in general or just at these times after all its alot of puppy to keep upright. How is pup on the stack .does pup stack well or try to sit ?
  8. We would not groom a dog without any consent no matter how logical it may seem to do it
  9. Will ask the obvious question first has dog been taught to sit ?? Also she is a pup so sometimes they need assistance & you need to make it more fun * note allow them to get board & sit . Also if your holding the bait to high they will sit ona free stand because its more comfy
  10. Phone your breeder & have a chat with them ,agree that constant lameness even if mild is an issue,it may be nothing major at all & something very simple to solve or warnings signs for something major but it needs addressing as muscle wastage can set in . If your breeder is a good one they should be able to give so feedback & maybe suggest a vet who is excellent in lameness issues as some vets are very clueless in this area
  11. Nope easy to do but working in the boarding/grooming field i see obese dogs all the time & i see the awful side effects off it . We board so many diabetic dogs these days & they are owned by people who we would always say needs a diet yadda yadda but they always had excuses & then when the dog is very sick they blame everyone else . The sad part is i also now of people who want there dogs fat because they are less active & easier to live with
  12. Does he go im it during the day ?? I have showdogs so they are all crate trained but they are trained during the day as well that leaving the crate means toilets .Sometimes you need to use day time to educate them on what to do not just nighttime .
  13. Bullmastiff we board both & both breeds have there pro/cons but when it comes to the boarding environment experience i just love that goofy laid back Bullmastiff way ,still active but gentle at the same time
  14. If your sitting with a friend who has shelter then a simple list would be Chair crate water bowl mat /tarp for under the crate basic show bag 'lead show/walking,number holder, squeaky(if trained to one) slobber cloth, white chalk. You could add plenty more but if starting on a budget the above will do. bait esky with basics unless you wish to buy. Clothes yo can go simple or extreme, start simple not white as it blends into the dog (presume its the bassett). You can wear nice pants & top .Your son i would suggest let him give it a go first but again dress neat & tidy & then you can buy a nice pair of slacks & shirt . Op shops can be great if budget shopping especially for growing kids & even the adults . I would suggest attending as many shows as possible if you can video the breed in question & watch & learn & then video yourself if practising. If again its a basset some use the basset table for judging
  15. Agree with others is saying that taking your dog often isn't the best idea . Generally people want to chat & also believe there dog can go play with other dogs & this isn't the case. The show environment can be very overwhelming & like already mentioned very space restrictive. Some venues may be more suitable but All Breeds shows i would say a big no especially if inside .Inside shows area actually very hard to be a spectator . If your wanting to see Cockers & maybe show yours off then maybe consider the Cocker club shows but the club could give you more idea,s We encourage any people that phone us to come dogless unless you wish to sit by yourself & not interact at all because with the varying set ups & people often sharing with other breeds exhibitor set ups are a very busy place so any spare dogs not confined can become an issue & some shows are harder to interact with exhibitors . Many free areas you can't stand in such as marshaling areas & you will be told to move on so unless your partner plans to just stand in the backrow & see nothing whilst holding the dogs then i would consider exactly what you want out of your day at the show . Not all breeders will be chatty as much as dog shows are great to see breeds its also a very social time for exhibitors who often make a day out of it with friends .
  16. Never made them smaller & never had an issue
  17. The chances of people on the mainland using him without any credentials to his name i would say is slim as there are plenty of choices out there with similar lines so it comes down to what makes him more special than all the other Poodles out there ?? So basically you will be looking at the local breeders in which case that will be easy ,take him to a show & let them see him & assess him.If they like what they see they will use him . As a stud dog owner you need to share the good & bad no dog is perfect so you need to now his faults & his good points & be able to explain to any inquiries this & why he may/may not be suitable for "bitches" I agree with others that his DNA colour status would be at the lower end of the scale in selecting a stud dog ,so many other things of far more importance to look at first off that for me would simply be a bonus in a complete package if i wanted that aswell.
  18. Our vets don't question what we feed & we don't share with them what we feed. WE seek vets that are good at diagnosis & some of those preach methods that we don't use but they are amazing vets that i would trust with surgery & the important things . All vets will push something but its a case of saying no thankyou . One of our past vets was the rudest person out but he had amazing skills that was well worth putting up with the bad parts.
  19. Flame suit on but i don't get what this current trend is to post on DOL about issues without even allowing the breeder to be told first & given the chance to work with pet owners . I just didn't want to upset or offend the breeder. In all honesty posts like this do the exact above as there the ones who find out after every tom ,dick & harry has .
  20. The GSP is still not found but here is the latest update Michelle Matthewsposted toKennel Zone Community - Western Australia UPDATE: Sonya Bowditch and her Tracking dog Bella came down to the lake in Sanctuary Waters where Sage was last seen to see if she could pick up her track. Well pick up her track she certainly did. From what we can tell she is in the bush behind Hakea Prison. Bella went troppo at the gate on Campbell Road and gave no sign that she came back out. We checked the other side on Warton Rd and it doesn't look like she went straight through. We are going to set up a station at the gate and put something there with our scent on and food and water and Madison will go down there a couple of times a day and see if she comes out. Not definite but haven't felt this positive for a while, so fingers and toes crossed
  21. Feed dry for over 30 yrs all dogs live a very healthy long life. We deal with alot of dogs in the kennels who are diabetics & it isn't due to the dry but all the crap people feed.Schmackos, pigs ears & the list goes on The current fad we are seeing is people feeding barf but most have no clue what it is ,The buy the cheap stuff.the dogs are severely underweight & so unhealthy looking . There isn't a cheats version but it isn't hard to do it right. The problem is these same people then feed treats that totally counteract the point of barf ^ they don't get it I tried it on one of my dogs & it was a total disaster & wouldn't feed it again unless it suited . . The best for me is what suits that dog & what one feeds as a whole package . People should feed what suits each dog & sometimes it may be something that goes against your ideals. I now die hard barf feeders whose dogs are always sick so im not a believer in it being the best . Yes there are food to avoid or feed in minimal amounts
