Our Greyhounds where the only breed we have owned that i would trust around cats. Sighthound doesn't equate to chasing every fluffy around ,they simply don't. No breed is cat safe & not all cats are dog friendly ,so it works both ways there i have meet some of the nastiest cats around . So my question would be is your cat an indoor cat only ?? (ie no access outside)

So what has changed since Sept?? I gather it wasn't an issue prior to that ?? My first thought would be an IBS or some food issue that is setting her off each day . I can't drink full milk & would suffer similar style symptoms can drink low fat no issues . I would seriously by doing a food diary of everything she gets including any treats , D you feed once or twice?? We stopped feeding BH as it was no longer agreeing with our dogs . Have you asked the breeder?? You could try giving a gas eaze although i would ask your vet . We keep it on hand incase of bloat whilst travelling never had to use it

Hypothetical: Baby With Temperament Fault
Dogsfevr replied to sandgrubber's topic in General Dog Discussion
If PTS was the right option yes we would . Its fine for people to say no way but as a breeder you are responsible for what you sell after all people are quick to judge the breeder if it goes pear shaped as to why they sold it when there was concerns in the first place I have seen dogs sold via breeders, pet shops & rescue that should have been PTS but weren't because obviously people deemed otherwise & the nightmares these dogs are for there owners is very distressing . We would get any pup assessed if we had concerns & if deemed by all parties there is an issue with an unknown outcome then yes we would PTS . We have never had an issue but one must always be opened minded if it happens & weighing up the pros/cons the dogs interests would always come first over emotional people who in all reality wouldn't take the dog on themselves . To PTS would be a severe case at 8 weeks we would run on & see if things changed when the rest of the litter left -
Owning dogs & being a competent person to be a paid walker is a big difference for me & yes being a vet would also have little bearing . Walking dogs may not be Rocket Science but many people are incapable of walking there dogs safely & correctly in public . I wouldn't hand my dogs to anyone unless i truly felt they would come home in one piece & the same dogs in nature . Many vets are clueless when it isn't listed in a book & to be honest we have had students out here on final field days & they couldn't control well trained dogs it was scary . I would never use the service but if i did i want to now * insurance covered * past history in controlling dogs of all shapes ,sizes & needs ( not vet history) * How many you plan to walk in one hit * Areas you would walk & why these areas are deemed better for the dogs * Do you plan to do onleash or offleash * Method of transporting dogs in vehicles & safety methods offered * There would be many more questions i would consider .

No i wouldn't & i don't have an issue with dogs . Breed doesn't worry me either . Our gates are always locked & we do have signs saying dogs running free. I now people who open gates see dogs run free panic & forget to shut gates as the back out & dog escapes .

Puppy & leash free pups be very careful same would apply to the beach . Puppy preschool research wisely & make sure its a class not about free for alls but about learning skills . I am not a fan of puppy preschools as many teach very bad behaviours that owners struggle to retrain but a good one is a great assest Your pup is more than capable of being left home alone pups need to learn what there life routine is early on not get given a routine that will then change again in adulthood & they find much harder to accept. As much as where all mummies to our dogs they are an animal & they should be treated as such so they can become a well adjusted dog & a pleasure to live with & a the dog being given the life skills to cope ,that is the best gift any owner can give there dog. Cavies are hardy dogs & can be left alone .They are true sporting spaniels . If your breeder is good listen to there advice.People often selcet there breeder because they like the nature of there dogs so ask why & what they do to get such lovely easy going dogs & generally its because they aren't smoothered that they are so great . As for toilet i would go fake grass, again ask the breeder what it is use to. You can place the fake grass in a tray low to the ground

The vet down the end of the street that is full of idiots was treating a friends pup.this pup had been docked legally & had all the correct paperwork. Dog was been treated for some issue & this wasn't said persons normal vet but one of those rush to the closest vet kind of deal. Vet said pup must stay over night & friend didn't think twice as logic said pup needed to be on fluids. Friend went to collect pup next day .clinic said no ,friend was okay . The next day came friend phoned up regarding pup & was told alot of porkies & she went down & insisted on seeing pup & wanted to now what was happening . The clinic was holding the pup as it was docked, when friend got home 3 RSPCA cars where waiting . Long story short these idiots thought they where above anyone else & could do what they felt like with a clients dog no questions asked. RSPCA then escorted friend to clinic where all the paperwork was shown to vet staff who still weren't convinced they did anything wrong so don't even trust your vet or above all there staff to dob you in . This clinic wasted the RSPCA time & embarrassed the owner & the pup was caught in the middle .Friend had to fit clinic over the bill & the clinic left pup on fluids to long & the leg was so swallon it wasn't funny. We had a traditionally docked breed & fully support the practice if we could. Indigirl there are vets that will do it problem is many vets have no clue how too ,Ask the boxer club if they have suggestions on a vet who is more open minded if it becomes a bigger issue. After a while the tip will die to the point you can just snap it off by hand Our Show Grey had to have her tip removed .

Weight Loss Advice - Springer Spaniel
Dogsfevr replied to quangle's topic in Health / Nutrition / Grooming
I think thats the issue .people forget recommended is just a suggestion & you need to weigh up age, active level, treats & many people are not honest in how many treats there dog gets anyway .Every bit is extra in there diet . also scoops vary greatly depending on what people are using . As mentioned the variety may not be suited to your dog so look at the other choices -
Breeders can breed wonderful dogs ,morons can create monsters . We have simple doglaws now that people can't follow even DOLERS have posted what they do thats against the rules Because it apparently doesn't apply to them. You can't have your cake & eat it ,many dog owners suck at taking control of the animals in there hands whether the behaviour be good or bad . Common sense dog ownership is sadly lacking for many & dog ownership isn't about short cutting your responsabilities. We also have the the scenario of puppy preschools in some cases giving bad advice we also have some obedience scholls whose methods are there way or no way .Many clubs turn people away who don't wish to use certain methods & above all the methods or choice of equipment are failing the dog,Why should people attend obedience when some put people off so badly or decide the dog is the to hard basket because it may work better on a check chain than a flat collar . There where 2 families at the show today with Goldies lovely natures but dragging them every where ,they where discussing how feed up they where getting with there obedience classes & not getting anywhere or other advice. Some people there showed a different method & the dogs where so respectful, the owners showed what to try & the dogs worked a treat 10 mins of someone with open mind & they where happy campers /

Cowboy Magic Detangler And Shine
Dogsfevr replied to RiverStar-Aura's topic in Health / Nutrition / Grooming
Its really easier to just brush more often ,these products still need washing out is if extra work isn't what your after best to avoid & do the basics better. You can simply use brill cream ,have used that on the show dogs for years BUT mine don't get knots & its a preventive for other things -
Cowboy Magic Detangler And Shine
Dogsfevr replied to RiverStar-Aura's topic in Health / Nutrition / Grooming
From my experience most of the products that claim that don't in the fashion people expect & its still about coat maintenance. I do how ever use the Cowboy Magic range (Rose hip sham/con & there shine spray & find it a great product -
a slave would be number #1 other thing i would like but we can't use them here so it doesn't matter

Where To Buy Decent Dog Food In Tassie
Dogsfevr replied to Faolmor's topic in Health / Nutrition / Grooming
Order direct from Royal Canin ,its cheaper for starters & delivery is free & they do single bag orders although i buy multis as the savings work out far better . You need to join the pro club which is free anyway -
Well i see the issues of dew claws every day in the grooming world,i also have scars from where i have been sliced open by boarding dogs mainly from GSD's & other large breeds & i can tell you now when they rip you open it isn't fun at all . We remove all ours & will do so until we have no choice ,the sad part is the people who make these types of decisions live with there heads in the sand about what happens in the real world

Think its been around for some time ,doesn't occur often but it can do ,just like Long Coat Akitas , Rotties ,Malamutes
-
Yes long coat Labs do exist & even the best of breeders can produce them obviously not desirable but they certainly do exist Hair Length (DNA marker tested – FGF5) Long-haired coat length is inherited as an autosomal recessive trait. Therefore, dogs that are carriers of the long-hair mutation will appear to be normal (short hair) themselves, but will likely pass on the long-hair allele 50% of the time. Breeds we are currently able to test include: Labrador Retrievers

We live on the property & do a last night check BUT consideration must be taken into all the dogs boarded & going up there all the time at night does stir the dogs & unsettle them , We certainly go check if there is an non normal noise & will go up if there is a barker & shut them in but once there all settled they are left alone to sleep. We don't shut till 6 pm & in summer the dogs may still be out till 9/10 o clock providing they are quiet. In winter there usually brought in around 4pm if a nice day but there out all day & its starting to get cold & the dogs will tell you they have had enough. Otherwise there in/out between the rain & that may mean out between 5/6 . We don't have staff & are owner/operators Different states vary as does there license for operating times & noise requirements I think people need to be a bit realistic & unless no one sleeps there dogs are left alone for a certain period (lets say 9/10 hrs)during the night & its safe to say many average dog owners have no clue what there dogs are doing during this time or even get up if there barking . Checking is a personal choice & many of the dogs we board would require meds between 6/7 pm . We check around 8,30/9 & shut in the barkers at this time . In summer we check latter but we board a smaller number but during checking some dogs do go off & require time to re settle which is harder on them so checking we do quietly & calmly . We also take into consideration our neighbours & the effect barking dogs have when checking on the other kennels . Whilst we are a 24/7 job we also have our own private time

I use potato flour on the show dogs BUT its washed out asap ,i wouldn't be using it just because. Talc is the same ,the only time i would use it outside of showing is for coated breeds who may have had an accident on there pants & its great for brushing it out.

Just get a flannel & give them a warm wash over . I have never had success with dry shampoo
