Cathode owners would tick the right owners for the breed box . Good owners no matter what the dog Will have a good friend. Owners who want a breed without living in reality often own a nightmare . I see this daily . Owners who brought a breed and dedicated themselves to ticking all the boxes . Then I see owners who brought a dog to be a status symbol and put no effort in and complain about there dog . I have helped handle both breeds in the ring my preference is the BC BUT that’s because I myself own active breeds with big personalities . The Labs are great I just like more get up n go 24/7
-
Maybe also look at Australian Shepherds . I tend to find them more stable and some great breeders in Brisbane . I guess my question is how much time outside with the dog are you planning? Including winter, rainy days . Whilst I’m not a fan off dogs living outside 24/7 I get some people prefer that option for what ever reason but things to consider with this route . Dog won’t be trained to be clean in the house. Dog won’t be trained to house rules If dog is storm phobiac what is your plan .? If it’s an extreme heat day ? When it’s a old senior will it still left outside ? If dog becomes a nighttime barker what is the plan ? Floors you can deal with and manage ,dog learns house rules and the humans learn the dog rules a few carpet runners

How quickly should an underweight dog gain weight?
Dogsfevr replied to akik0290's topic in Health / Nutrition / Grooming
It’s actually not been proven either way a lot of false info given. I feed this brand and have kept very update to date with the correct info from the proven vet sources and more than happy to feed it . -

I dont think the dog will ever appear to look fat from the photo taken above so you need to decide the dogs actual construction to what is reality -
And im ready to put the flame suit on but if you want to refer to & raise your Amstaff like a Furbaby please dont get one . I have friends who where heavily involved in the breed including obedience .running classes for Am Staff owners & there biggest heartbreak each week where owners who brought the breed for all the wrong reasons & did not respect what they are & felt they could create something different because it was going to be there Furbaby . There dogs where amazing ambassadors, social, manners to be proud off .The best dog often played with mine in the BIS line up & i never had any concerns as i knew they where owners /breeders who i totally respected ,there have been others off the breed i keep a nice gap . We board alot of Am Staffs lovely dogs BUT most off the owners have created monsters by not giving them the boundries they deserve & respect to be an amazing dog .Dogs are products off there owners & if you as an owner cant tick the boxes off the breed then no dont get one . I love them as a breed & the right dog & owner are a great fit ,plenty here come in boarding with smaller mates with no drama's BUT the owners where alos prepare for the what ifs & respected that they are a big machine in a little package & learning manners & self control as a baby so important One has spoilt the dog so much it has major anxiety issues & this breed can Scream .There neighbours have spoken too them numerous times & i totally feel for the neighbours this dogs scream is blood curdling . As for price this is a breed that comes with health testing i would be wanting a breeder who health tests,i would want a breeder who explains all the cons before the pros & i would want to source a breeder whose not got the macho attitude & has respect for the breed & wants there puppy owners to be well informed & set up for success & i would want to meet there dogs & see the kind of natures they display

Rushing weight gain will often end up with the runs . Putting weight on depends on what your even feeding, how many meals. The dog in the photo kinda looks long in loin which means it may never appear fat no matter how much you feed it but also hard to tell from the photo off the side . The other issue is with cross breeds is sometimes the front & the rear never match in looks -
Any advice on becoming a dog trainer?
Dogsfevr replied to Fenrir's topic in Training / Obedience / Dog Sports
What training history do you currently have what titles do your dogs have what clubs have you trained at or been a trainer with . From years of being in the dog world qualifications are only as good as the wealth of knowledge and experience behind them . I would pay for some people here who aren’t qualified but have trialled to the highest level, have worked with varying breeds ,had jobs in animal handling and “get” some dogs need more than what came out off a book . There hands on experience, proven titles on there dogs and amazing ability to understand what makes that dog tick beyond some weekend qualifications . I know someone who did one off the above courses and passed ,there dogs are fruit loops, they have no connection with dogs and ask me to help them on issues lol. They where great at memory but not savvy with dogs . There are far too many idiot trainers out there to be blunt -
Never had it happen with hot spots on any off our Minis . I wouldn’t Associatie it to that I’d be wanting a second opinion or a thorough blood panel done if nothing changes. The worst reaction to a hotspot here is when it’s dried to far a pulls on the hair ,it’s a fine line between drying with some moisture . We find curash powder great from hotspots

Agree I wouldn’t have phoned for advice for something that can’t be felt or checked

What else do they feed .? That isn’t a raw diet just raw meant . Feeding a raw diet is much more . Dont bother asking your vet ,very few know anything about how to feed dogs except promote the brand they sell . Asking the Great Dane club in Victoria would be a good start . Is this a registered breeder that health tests .?
-
It also may be small so no big deal or anything to tell . Dogs all have a thing there just like humans so it depends on what your reacting too a simple spot where the cord was attached or a hernia off concern Have you taken the pup to the vet to have it looked at ?
-
Plenty of pups have them and no big deal at all . Has nothing to do with being taken for idiots ,it’s just called it happens . If your that concerned take to a vet as no one can be a vet by a picture If largish fixed easy when spayed otherwise if small no drama

First off a dog panting is normal and how it cools it’s system down. If the Poms coat is actually correct texture it will be cooler with it than the shaved returning coat .A good coat doesn’t have the undercoat . im a groomer and not anti shaving but we get dogs in with great correct coats and explain that what they want done will not change nothing .It generally makes the owners think differently. You have a very little dog once clipped ,there not like most other Spitz breeds with more body and bulk to give protection . If your wanting it clipped off to be easier to live with then that’s an answer but generally not to make cooler .

Grooming for beach loving spoodle
Dogsfevr replied to BobTheDog's topic in Health / Nutrition / Grooming
Your dog may be very well behaved for the groomer . That is based on confidence, grooming table and getting on with the job . But your groomer if you ask should happily show you how to brush correctly and the tools to use . Even if trimmed short they still knot . Most oodles /doodles have an open topcoat but felt underneath ,that is where your tools assist why brushing to the skin is soo important. Too be honest buying a budget dryer would also be your best friend , these coats matt especially after baths . Tne dryer blows to the skin and can actually help blow knots out when line brushing plus separating the coat out before it tightens up again,we brush a lot of knots out with the dryer . -

Very normal for any dog off any age to vomit a food that there not use to . Liver doesn’t suit all dogs but I find the dehydrated ones the worse for dogs to stomach . Over excited dog, pulling can all add to a vomit.. You don’t need to use treats all the time

Grooming for beach loving spoodle
Dogsfevr replied to BobTheDog's topic in Health / Nutrition / Grooming
First off you need to start teaching the grooming manners 7 months your pup should know the difference between a game & a being brushed ,it shouldnt be a two people job & you need to make sure your rewarding the right behaviour . Most people feed treats rewarding the wrong behaviour & just want to bribe or get the dog to stand still with food without teaching it "grooming skills". This is your next 15 yrs & as a groomer i deal with nightmare dogs weekly who have not had owners step up & be pro active.Coated breeds especially crosses with these coat textures need owners to be brush happy . Brushing knots out is painful & teaches the dog to either hate being brushed,to start biting/mouthing You need to brush on a neutral space, like the washing machine with a non slip matt.Ask your groomer to show how to brush the dog correctly as they are the ones most likely brushing the knots out Your brush is useless, pin brushes are great for there job, bristle is a finishing brush on a drop coat ,get your groomer to show you the right tools but you need a good soft slicker & above all a comb ,what your using is will never brush your dog out . You need to line brush out . I will say as a groomer 99% of owners with this combo end up clipping short or having no choice as they simply don't brush enough & not correctly . Curly/wavy doesnt factor its all about brushing often & brushing to the skin . Washing/rinsing an already matted coat makes it worse ,most are often clipped off like a sheep in one piece . So you need to decide your options . Keep coat short & simple Ask your groomer how to brush the dog correctly & what tools Get into a strict grooming routine especially with manners (this applies even with a shorter coat your pup wont get better for you until you start being the teacher & setting the rules .Manners training can be done daily by placing pup on table & just doing "touch time" patting, feet checking ,standing .Silly behaviour is not rewarded ,grooming is about calm /together time but with a job -
It will be hard to answer your question because each dogs road to recovery can be so varied & whether additional drugs are required to assist & in the early stages its all about getting on the road to recovery & lowering the dose. Your vet is the person you need to ask as they are treating your dog & at what stage . The main obvious issue is the potential side effects of prednil which your vet will cover anyway
-
Depends on many factors. I have plenty of friends who ask for nothing as there helping there friend go forward(obviously vet bills etc are there cost ). A pup in return goes pear shape when one pup so a contract outlining what happens is a must & know of more issues with this not going to plan ,will the bitch owner then re lease the bitch to make a litter ??What agreement is made by both parties if 1 pup ??
-
No ,there are better options . What circumstances did the guarding happen

If your on FB there is a Qld dog shows page . Otherwise contact DogsQld and ask if there running handling classes or puppy days . Stacking is actually easy providing your getting the steps right and puppies even large breed I only stack on a table for training at this age . Also check if a judging ramp is used in your state -
Actually don’t think the breeder is a liar. It sounds like without all of us knowing the facts the breeder has been good maybe not the outcome you expected but in the scheme of things good. Was $3500 including air freight or did you pay extra . No site guarantees a breeder and even the best of breeders have sad moments. Just like parents who have a child with issues Yes puppies die at birth ,that was the litter most likely set aside for you ,breeder had no pup/s but refunded you the money .Just because there are other puppies doesn’t equate to you getting one. The breeder could have said right I will replace the pup but not expecting another litter for a year especially that colour so felt the refund was the best solution . We many years ago lost 6 puppies due to a bad vaccination batch at 6 weeks ,6 homes heart broken including ourselves . Did you get an autopsy done .? Has you vet supplied you with a written report? Your pup would have needed a fit to fly vet check in the 2 weeks prior to leaving . Lesson here is breeders should take out the free pet insurance on pups leaving . Owners should take out pet insurance as well . This is a great lesson for kids ,Mother Nature can be cruel to the breeder and owners ,owning pets is heartbreaking and heartwarming. No need to make anything more of it to your child than things in life don’t always work out ,you move on and find another breeder . Maybe the breeder is embarrassed ,maybe you sent messages they felt was no longer a working relationship and it was best to refund Either way it’s time to move on .
