  1. Go grab some Claratyne and do one tablet a day for a week and see if it helps. Have used Claratyne sucesfully to treat allergies and there are a few dogs that I know of are actually on them constantly to combat allergies. What do you feed?
  2. Really would be a good idea to try him on a diet of chicken wings/necks, sardines and veggies for at least a month. Get rid of all dry food and snacks. Sounds like he could benefit from the weightloss this diet would provide as well. As for the hotspots. If they are very moist then use some baby's Curash powder (from chemists and supermarkets) when they start to dry out use the cream.
  3. Poor baby. Chiro is a good idea. Perhaps a heat pack on the area might help.
  4. Ahhh there you go the sardines and worming I would say are the culprits. Had an incident myself with two pups under three months that I feed sardines. Poo turned to slop for a day or so. Seems when they are young they can't handle the oiliness of the sardines. My advice would be just to feed her as normal minus the sardines.
  5. Get rid of the tinned and get some bones for him. Did you figure out what the smell is?
  6. Has she been wormed lately? How runny is runny? Have you fed sardines lately?
  7. Maybe her hair loss is normal and you just aren't used to that amount of dog hair being around? You said she has some pug in her genetics. Well pugs shed hair all of the time. You get used to having tumbleweeds of pug hair if you own pugs. She could also be losing her puppy coat which happens at about her age and it is coming into summer so dogs lose their winter coats around now. Some people have reported that beef causes their dogs to have skin problems. Others have said that chicken causes more hotspots to occur. Usually with kangaroo it is to rich for the dog and makes them have runny poo, I haven't heard of it causing skin irritations. What sort of bowls do you use? Plastic water bowls and toys can often cause skin irritations. Replace all bowls with metal ones and remove all plastic toys. It's seems to me that your girl did best when she was on just chicken mince and mashed veggies. Why not try her on a complete BARF Diet with no grains and all fresh food? Has she every been on antihistamines? Go grab some human Claratyne from your chemist and start her on one tablet a day for at least a week and see if it improves anything.
  8. Even ask your breeder if they have a pen or crate spare. Bunnings also has compost things that people have used as pens.
  9. What sort of dogs are they? Where do you live? Sometimes vets have crates they loan out. Maybe someone can lend you a puppy pen for two weeks. Or if you have a kids playpen that would be fine as well. I doubt very much you will have to seperate them just keep them in a confined area should stop them being to crazy.
  10. They have a foul fishy smell if they need expressing. I'm thinking that it's more a yeast thing. Do you feed grains or dry food?
  11. Great suggestion. If you go to a professional hydo session you could also discuss if you should get a life jacket or not. What are the problems your dog has? I have heard that dogs with patella problems should not swim as it places to much strain on them.
  12. Yes have had two 5 month old pug pups done on the same day. They probably coped better because they had eachother for company. As for recovery I just let them carry on as usual whilst thier stitches were in, of course no jumping off things, and when I thought they were getting a little rough or had done enough playing I would put them in their puppy pen which soon calmed them down. So yes get them done together and get yourself a puppy pen or crate that you can put them in when you want them to be quiet.
  13. Ohh I've only ever used it for ear cleaning because of infections and that was ages ago. Deeerr to me. Goes looking though medical basket and finds Surolan bottle and notes that although it is in a bottle that you adminisiter drops out of it does say on the bottle it does treat skin infections.
  14. I dont think is is totally ripped out it looks more like is split Mmmm if it is split then it's probably best it is removed otherwise it will become infected. Have a go yourself with some tweezers. Is it right at the base? If you can't do it yourself, which most likely means your vet wouldn't be able to do it, you will have to book your dog in for the day to be sedated so that it can be removed whilst your dog is asleep.
  15. Nooooo calcium supplements can do more harm then good. If you are feeding a good diet with lots of raw meaty bones then there will be enough calcium in it. BARF Feeding Suggestion.... MONDAY AM - Chicken Necks/wings/carcuss PM - Beef & Slops TUESDAY AM - Kangaroo Tail PM - Fish & Slops WEDNESDAY AM - Chicken Necks/wings/carcuss PM - Dog mince (minced chicken carcuss) & Yoghurt & Slops THURSDAY AM - Lamb bone PM - Kangaroo & Slops FRIDAY AM - Chicken Necks/wings/carcuss PM - Dog mince (minced chicken carcuss) & Slops SATURDAY AM - Lamb bone PM- Fish & Slops SUNDAY AM - Kangaroo Tail PM - Dog mince (minced chicken carcuss) & Slops BARF SLOPS INGREDIENTS & METHOD Things I always include: - container of alfala spouts - bunch of spinach (roots cut off) - bag of carrots - bunch of celary - 4 zuccinis - 3 to 4 oranges (peeled) - 1 pumpkin - 2 to 4 apples (pips taken out) - 2 to 4 bannanas (peeled) - 8 to 10 eggs (whole including shell) - flaxseed oil (approx 250mL) - kelp (approx 100g) What else you can put in: - bunch of silverbeet - turnip - squash - sweet potato - 2 to 4 pears - half to 1 pinapple - brussel sprouts - brocoli - cauliflower - bag of beans - Apple Cider Vinegar - Vitamin C - 1 to 2 green capsicums (stalk cut off & seeds out) - 1 to 2 red caspsicums (stalk cut off & seeds removed) Chop up then process up in blender/food processor so that things turn to slops. Put each blender batch into a big bucket. Usually leave the eggs & flaxseed oil for things that don't blend very well like the pumpkin and carrots. Ingredients should fill up a bucket. Mix bucket with big ladel till all mixed through then put into take away containers & freeze untill needed. Raw Meaty Bones should make up approx 80% to of the diet with 20% being veggies, fruit, offal, muscle meat and dairy.
  16. Sorry Bradman I had to laugh because you are just to cute.
  17. For pugs all year round but more coming into spring/summer and then into autum winter. Get yourself a shedding blade and brush when your dog is still a little damp from bathing.
  18. Surolan is actually used to clean the inside of dogs ears so putting it on your doggies muzzel probably wouldn't do alot laffi. Easiest thing to do would be to bath in salty water and apply some baby's Curash (used for nappyrash and can be bought from chemists and supermarkets) If it is an actual infection like staph, your vet would have to do a swab to find out, you would need some antibiotics and some antibiotic cream.
  19. Does sound like it is totally ripped out if you are just seeing a flat bed of flesh. Bath with the warm salty water and use the betadie for the next few days. After that it should be happy to heal by itself. If at any stage it starts to look yucky straight to the vet.
  20. Perhaps read up a little more on feeding raw diets. Yes all bones and meats, including chicken frames, are fed raw to dogs. I've never fed chicken feet but I think some people do. Bonemeal sems to be used as a garden fertilizer these days so I definatley wouldn't be feeding it to my dogs http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Bone_meal as it is only crushed bones without any meat. If you feed chicken necks, chicken carcuses, dog mince (minced chicken carcuses) and other raw meaty bones your dog should be getting more then enough bone, phosphorus, in it's diet. As for supplements if you are feeding a good diet then they really shouldn't need any. Saying that I add Flaxseed Oil and kelp powder to my pugs veggie slops and am considering purchasing some Joint Guard or Sasha's Blend.
  21. Most likely from another dog biting his ears in a fight. Other cause could be that he scratched his ears due to irritations.
  22. Keep an eye on the dogs for the next few days. Make sure that they are managing to go to the toilet without problems and are happy. If they start to have toileting problems, seem off colour or start to bloat take them to the vets straight away. Giving them all a can or two of sardines might be an idea to help flush the glove out if they have eaten it.
  23. If it is completely ripped out then that is a good thing. Just bath it in warm salty water. Grab a container and put your dogs foot in it and let it soak for a little. Then let it dry and appy something like betadine to it. It should heal up fine. If it isn't completely ripped out then you probably would be best taking your dog to the vets to get them to remove it. If it is not removed it will continue to catch on things and probably get infected.
