  1. Could be the worming. How long ago did you do it?
  2. Yeast infection? Tonsil infection? Does sounds like an infection seeing that antibiotics treat it and now both of them have it. Were any teeth removed when they had the dentals? Did the holes heal properly? Might be a hard thing to do but maybe the owners could try flushing the gums with syringes of warm salty water for a few days and see if that makes an improvement.
  3. Way to much food. Cut back to two meals a day. Get rid of the Dog Bikkies during the day. Weigh his food so that you are feeding about 5% of his ideal weight per day. Maybe go on 15kg as his ideal weight. Mornings - chicken necks or bone Evenings - dog mince (make sure this has crushed bones in it with pulped veggies or fish with veggies or kangaroo with veggies or other muscle meat with veggies
  4. I wonder why he said that. Maybe because of the fat content of some of the bones. I know that kangaroo is low in fat so a kangaroo tail might be a good alternative to other fattier bones. You can also get kangaroo meat from pet produce stores.
  5. For pancreatitis you would have to watch the fat content in any raw meats or bones you fed. For the diabetes it's reccomended that you feed twice a day and a diet high in fiber. I would say that a normal BARF diet (with low fat meats and bones) with lots of veggies (fiber) would be fine for a diabetic dog.
  6. Kennel Cough is not tested for in Titer testing and it is believed that KC vaccinations only really last a year.
  7. I am not aware of any online company that sells vaccines in Australia. I could be wrong. And I a pretty sure that the companies that make the vaccines do not sell direct to the public. Vaccines also have to be handled correctly, ie kept at a certain temprature. If you did manage to get yourself some vaccine would you actually know how to inject it?
  8. God what vet are you going to? There have been other threads on here in relation to the cost of vaccinations and for a C5 $65 would be a little lower then usual. My vet now charges $69. And looking at a large shelters website they charge C3 $60.50, C4 $64.70 and C5 $74.80. Are you sure you are not mistaken?
  9. I have not seen any ill effects with short doses of Rimadyl or even Metacam.
  10. Good point. I know the Mobic tablets are quite small.
  11. Has it decreased over the last week at all? If so maybe give it some more time. If not then maybe an ultrasound.
  12. I know that Mobic is the human equivalant to Metacam. Not sure that it would work out any cheaper as it is quite expensive if not on PBS which of course we can't get for our animals. Vetmedin is Pimobendan but I think the same goes that it is expensive. They are both not over the counter and you would need your vet to write up a script to take to your chemist to make up.
  13. Mmm usually if they haven't been on heat or didn't recently deliver puppies there should be no bloody after desexing. I had a girl that had miscarried quite a few weeks before we had her desexed and she probably still had a discarge for a week afterwards. Do you know if she had had a litter recently?
  14. As WalandLibby explained it is thought the longer the dogs nose the better long distance vision it has, which short/flat nosed dogs having better short distance vision. It all relates back to what the dog breed was originaly bred for and if you think about it most long musseled dogs were bred to be working dogs so needed to be able to spot their masters from a long way away whilst most short/ flat musseled dogs were bred to be lap dogs and respond to the expressions on their masters faces. I have experenced with my pugs that they are terrible in knowing where I am in a park if I am a long way off and calling them. They look around not being able to spot me. But they often watch tv, actually crying and going up and pawing the screen, and recognise other animals and actually take a dislike to some people on the tv. How old is Soap? Do his eyes look clear of cloudiness or brown like pigmentation (staining)?
  15. It's really up to you reading up on all the information that is out there and making your own informed decision. Kennel Cough vaccinations only really provide coverage for a year whereas it is believed that distemper, hepatitis, and parvovirus coverage can be longer then a year. I've had the experience of a dog coming here with Kennel Cough and the dog that was nearly due for her C5 was worst hit with the Kennel Cough symptoms whilst the one that wasn't due for C5 for another 6 months showed no signs at all. Other people I know have had similar occurances. You will also get people who say they haven't vaccianted at all for years and thier dogs have never picked up a thing.
  16. $65 is a good price for a C5. C3 vaccination includes distemper, hepatitis, and parvovirus C4 vaccination includes C3 plus parainfluenza (involved in kennel cough) C5 vaccination includes C4 plus another compound for kennel cough What is your training clubs vaccination requirements? I would have thought that most require dogs to have C5. I am pretty sure that there is no obedience club that accepts Titer Testing results. Personally I still vaccinate my 7 and 5 year old pugs with C5 every year as they are around other dog with unknown histories alot. I have been pondering over the last few years about Titer testing but have quires about that as well. It is really up to yourself to choose what you think is best for your dog, barring the obedience club needing you to have a certain vaccination.
  17. I've seen what I would call a firmish diarrhoeah caused by Eagle Pack Holistic in a dog. When the dog was on it the amount of poo she produced massive compared to normally. It could be that your dog has some sort of digestive intolerence to some sort of grain that could be in the dry food. I know in humans that if thye have a certain intolerance to things they can get diarrhoeah. Intestinal wormers whould be given every 3 months, so 4 times a year.
  18. How old is your dog? I probably would be only feeding the sardines twice a week at the most as they can cause diarrhoea. Ice melts so that wont cause a problem. With his anal glands I would probably have your vet or a groomer give them a good squeeze, and teaching you how to do it, as just wiping them would not express them properly. With the worming I probably would be doing him again in a week or so but my brain is a bit befuddled at the moment so I could be wrong.
  19. I don't feed kibble at all but your diet sounds balanced. Generally it's thought that a BARF diet should be made up of approx 80% Raw Meaty Bones and 20% being made up of veggies, muscle meat, fruit, offal and dairy. I myself only feed once a day with 5 of the days being RMB (chicken necks 3 times a week, lamb bone once a week and sardines once a week) with veggie/fuit slops. The other 2 days I feed muscle meat and veggie/fruit slops. Yoghurt and offal is also added once a week. Because my dogs are small and adults I can get away with feeding muscle meat on it's own twice a week as things even out over the whole week in terms of calcium to phospherous ratio. However I owuld not reccomend this for puppies and would make sure that all meat fed contained bone. Others feed twice a day with a RMB (such as chicken necks or chicken carcusses) in the morning and then in the evening they will feed their muscle meat and other ingredients.
  20. Wouldn't change from the current BARf diet they are on now but would love to feed only feed organic and free range produce and meats.
  21. Mmm strange. Could be pain that caused her to do it. Maybe things were inflamed, her stiffness fit swith this, so things went haywire. And when the inflamation decreased things have gone back to normal. If it was a UTI I would think it would be more consistent.
  22. For the original poster I would go and get some Claratyne (human antihistaime tablets) from the chemist and give her a quater or half a tablet a day for a few days. Should stop the itching. For those with fleas have you made sure you have flea bombed your house and washed all bedding and other materials. You also may need to try and flea bomb your backyard. If you take your dogs in your car there also could be fleas in there.
  23. Lose the rice and add some veggies and bones. Grains are not a natural part of a dogs diet and can often cause skin problems. Do a search for BARF or RAW Feeding diets.
