Is This An Ok Diet For My Puppy?
puggy_puggy replied to PandaGirl's topic in Health / Nutrition / Grooming
Get her some lamb bones, necks and ribs (lamb flaps) are great. Obviously the soup bones are to hard for her to crunch up and eat meaning that she isn't getting a proper ratio of bone to meat. -
My vet doesn't like the up the nose KC vaccination as most dogs will get a gunky nose and a bit sick from it. He said that he only uses it if the dogs need immunisation in the next few days as it works faster then the injection. So no your pup should be fine and should be able to ride out the snotty nose stuff.

I don't know about the science diet effecting thier growth rates but if you want to get them onto a differnt meat and bones based diet you could just buy the BARF patties instead of having to make it all yourself. Not sure what state your in but the BARF Australia webite has a list of distributors in each state. http://www.barfaustralia.com/ Many people will feed the patties and chicken necks. -
Good to hear. Is the chicken mince made up of minced chicken carcusses? Is that all she is getting?

Is This An Ok Diet For My Puppy?

Get some chicken carcusses. Also beef bones are very hard. Does she manage to consume the whole bone or just rip the meat and fat off them? Dogs need to actually eat the whole of the bone not just the meat off it for them to have a balanced ratio of calcium and meat. If she is not eating the whole bone then I would change her to lamb bones. -

Here's my feeding plan for my pugs. I do offal once a week and just chop it up and add it to their other food. They get 2 to 3 tablespoons of the veggie slops with their meat/bones. I actually cut the chicken necks up so that the pugs don't swallow them whole and choke. They still crunch the pieces a few times before they swallow them. BARF FEEDING ROUTINE MONDAY -Chicken Necks & Slops TUESDAY- Fish & Slops WEDNESDAY - Chicken Necks & Yoghurt & Slops THURSDAY- Kangaroo & Slops FRIDAY- Chicken Necks & Offal & Slops SATURDAY - Lamb bones & Slops SUNDAY- Beef or Lamb or Kangaroo & Slops BARF SLOPS INGREDIENTS & METHOD Things I always include: - container of alfala spouts - bunch of spinach (roots cut off) - 1 to 2 green capsicums (stalk cut off & seeds out) - 1 to 2 red caspsicums (stalk cut off & seeds removed) - bag of carrots - bunch of celary - 4 zuccinis - 3 to 4 oranges (peeled) - 1 pumpkin (seeds removed) - 2 to 4 apples (pips taken out) - 2 to 4 bannanas (peeled) - 8 to 10 eggs (whole including shell) - flaxseed oil (approx 250mL) - kelp (approx 100g) What else you can put in: - bunch of silverbeet - turnip - squash - sweet potato - 2 to 4 pears - half to 1 pinapple - brussel sprouts - brocoli - cauliflower - bag of beans - Apple Cider Vinegar - Vitamin C Chop up then process up in blender/food processor so that things turn to slops. Put each blender batch into a big bucket. Usually leave the eggs & flaxseed oil for things that don't blend very well like the pumpkin and carrots. Ingredients should fill up a bucket. Mix bucket with big ladel till all mixed through then put into take away containers & freeze untill needed. -
Beahvioural Changes After Desexing?
puggy_puggy replied to Gottalovealab's topic in Health / Nutrition / Grooming
Shouldn't change his personality at all. If he is a humper it probably will reduce that urge a little. -
The darkened and smelly skin sounds to me like a yeast infection. I would get him off all dry food and any grains you might be feeding him and change over to either a RAW or BARF diet.

I would cut down on the beef hearts, feed maybe once or twice a week. Ditch the rice it's not a natural thing for a dog to eat. Add some raw meaty bones. Lamb bones are great. Add some fish once a week. Tinned sardines are great. You could try giving her frozen chicken necks to try and make her crunch on them more. Otherwise you could try chicken wings and carcusses. If you want to feed a true Raw or BARF diet then you would have to cut out all dry food. -
How old is your pup? And what breed? It does look like ringworm but the only real way for it to be diagnosed is for your vet to take a skin scraping and/or look at it under a special fluro light. If your pup is just young then he probably got it from other dogs at his breeders. Do you have a cat? They can get ringworm as well. The spores can also live in the environment for several months. Wash all the bedding, flooring, carpet etc with a bleach type product. Your vet will give you some antifungal cream and an antifungal wash for your dog. As for his back legs splaying when he is eating. That is normal for a puppy.

Oh they do other things as well. Like pee, eat and sleep.
-
What? Your 8 week old puppies don't poo many times a day?
-
Most likey used to cushion them and stop breakage on their way from the manafacturer, to the shop and then to you. Chemists will often still put cotton wool in tablet bottles to cushion the tablets.

If they are an ethical registered breeder they wouldn't be charging different prices for males and females. Go to another breeder as this one sounds like they are only in it for the money. Are they offering Canine Council Registration papers with the puppies? The Victorian ones look like this http://www.vca.org.au/Content.asp?ID=150 You might also consider a rescue staffy depending on what state you are in. The pounds are overflowing with them.

What do you feed? If it's only dry food she could be constipated.
-
Get him onto some more raw meaty bones. If you are feeding raw mince, lamb and kidney without bones then the diet is unbalanced. Lamb bones are good because they are soft enough to be totally consumed. Also add some flaxseed oil to his food. Do a search on BARF and RAW diets on this forum and I am sure you will come up with some ideas.

I am sure that in the dog world their is an antibiotic that is safe for a pregnant bitch to have. I know that in the human world their are safe antibiotics for pregant wormen to have.

Poor baby. Hope the blockage clears soon. -
Could be that he picked up a bit of a bug in quarantine and still has it. Or yes maybe he did bark and bark whilst there and hurt his throat. Is he a young dog?

Teeth - Anyone Seen This Before?
puggy_puggy replied to My Mad GSP's topic in Health / Nutrition / Grooming
Is it causing the dog any trouble? If not then I wouldn't bother with spending money on a specalist. If they are then it would be a lot cheaper and easier for your vet to remove them. -

Why don't you just buy some kangaroo from a pet produce store and offal from your butchers? Probably work out cheaper and less likey to have presevatives in it. Do you feed bones? It's important that you don't just feed muscle meat without any bones. I wouldn't be feeding offal every day. Mine get offal once a week. -

Entropian Surgery For Older Dogs
puggy_puggy replied to labsrule's topic in Health / Nutrition / Grooming
It's his eyelids, not his eyes. If the lower lids are drooping it would mean that he has Ectropion. He's been diagnosed with Entropion so it seems the upper eyelids are the problem. His eyes do look very irritated but the pics are not clear enough to tell. When my girl had surgery for entropion many years ago the first surgery didn't turn out too well and had to be done again a year or so later. It never was much good even after the second surgery. The second eyelid was good and gave her no further problems. :D I ment eyelids. Looks like his lower eyelids need work done to them as well.
