  1. What state is your mother in? I think she might need some legal advice from someone with Strata title experience. Take the letter that advises that she was given initial permission from the BC - regardless of their backtracking jargon after that, I think she may have a decent case to put forward. It's a bit rough to allow the animal for 4 months and then reneg on an agreement that they admit she had with them BEFORE getting the dog... T.
  2. My girls don't resource guard as such - but one of them is a Labrahoover... she scoffs whatever she has and will look for more every time. Zeddy is more sedate when she eats - preferring to chew every mouthful... I can feed and give treats like biscuits together (supervised) and we have no issues. Things like bones and pigs ears are given in separate rooms because I'll be darned if I'm sitting there waiting for Zeddy to finish... T.
  3. This is what poodle pups look like when they have spent one day with me and my Labrador... I think Fern had lots of fun - what do you think?? Fern's mummy was most unimpressed... why??? T.
  4. I don't know where Trouble (Labrador) learned to sit up and beg, but she does it so well... My girls also know that when I say "kitchen" they are to go in there, and I shut the door - this is a good thing for when I leave for work, or if people come to the door and I don't want Zeddy scaring them with her "I'm a big vicious dog" act... T.
  5. Was it a Briard... they are quite large... http://www.briard.com.au/ T.
  6. I used to have a male Rottie that would lead you around the yard "holding" your hand... it freaked my dad out once when he was visiting... and Rastus used to talk to you as well, which dad thought was growling. Once dad realised that the dog was actually being gentle and affectionate with him, they were fine... *grin* T.
  7. Is the dog in question a "blue" colour by any chance? T.
  8. I have a Labrahoover and a Rottie/Pittie X - the Lab inhales her food, and the Rottie/Pittie chews every mouthful. Needless to say, they are supervised while eating, or they are fed in separate rooms - the Lab would definitely steal the other girl's food if not supervised or separated. T.
  9. Largest litter of pups I've had to help rear was 10... Rottie pups... they are soooo cute and funny when they are about 4-5 weeks old and their individual personalities are really starting to kick in! We sat for hours just watching them play... Have help rear 2 other litters of 9 pups - one litter of Rotties, and one of Labrador X - pretty similar as pups, and just as cute at the 4-5 week mark. One thing I don't miss about having a large litter is the cleaning up after them... T.
  10. Maybe the kennels in question will have a few intact males over the period, and don't want them going mental if the undesexed female comes into season. Some males could hurt themselves trying to get to a bitch in heat... I used to board my girl at the local vet clinic when she was in season, as my intact male was terrified of kennels. The male has since passed, and my girl is now desexed... T.
  11. Dakota - adopted Caspar - adopted Joshua - adopted Connor - adopted Merlin - adopted Elmer - adopted Gypsy - available for adoption Barney - available for adoption Spud - available for adoption James - available for adoption I do so love puppies... and they aren't hard work really... T.
  12. I love pups so much that I foster them for rescue. All of my babies are fully crate trained (and at least partially toilet trained) when they leave here... *grin* Here are a few that have passed through over the past year... Buster (now named Jaffa) - adopted Nugget (now named Dutch) - adopted Lilly - adopted Jake and Dexter - adopted Bindi - adopted Bentley - adopted Cody (now Gucci) - adopted Calvin - adopted Dominic - adopted Dante - adopted ... and there are more...
  13. OMG!!! Holly looks almost a twin for my girl Trouble! Exact same "death stare" and lovely coat colour... Trouble would eat until she exploded if I let her - she gets a certain amount of food every meal, and that's it... Trouble is 4 years old, and was desexed at just over 2 years old. My other dog Zeddy is a Rottie/Pittie - she also would eat until she exploded if allowed. as she is now going on for 11 years old and has creaky knees in Winter, we regulate her intake to keep her lean - and she moves well in Winter now (as opposed to when we used to feed her too much some years ago). Zeddy may be nearly 11, but her energy levels are almost the same as when she was much younger - and she loves playing with my foster pups too... T.
  14. Trouble looks very lean when she does her "beg"... And here is her best "butter wouldn't melt" look... My vets love Trouble's nice lean shape - however she isn't a well bred Labrador. She came from Moree, and we have a sneaking suspicion that there may have been a Dingo in the mix somewhere back in her "lines". This girl is WAY more agile than any other Labrador I've ever met... T.
  15. My girl, Trouble, keeps her figure by being the "play mistress" for my foster pups... here are some shots of her with some of the "kids" we've had over the past year... As you can see, she (and my other girl Zeddy) get plenty of exercise entertaining the young'uns... *grin* T.
  16. My girl is nice and lean - but there is a slight layer there if you feel her rib area - and she has a bit of "booty"... She stays lean by playing with the foster pups... *grin* T.
  17. OMG!!! Is that really the same skinny and sick little man you rescued a few weeks ago? You truly are an angel for the dogs in your care my friend. T.
  18. I'm off soonish to go to the show - and the best bit is that my friend's Weimeraner girl that's showing today finally became a Grand Champion a couple of days ago at their specialty show... go Izzy!!! If you want to see a spectacular example of the breed (Weim), get yer butts down to the show this morning and look for Izzy (being shown by Lisa Hope) - the Weims are up first today apparently. T.
  19. I always knew you were a total softie Jed... here's to many more happy years with little Chi Chi... T.
  20. My parents wouldn't look after my dogs for 7 weeks - and if they had their own dogs, they certainly wouldn't expect me to look after them if they went off travelling for 7 weeks... I'd be telling your mum that her dog is not a good fit for your lifestyle and the general workings of your household, and he'd be a totally disruptive influence - therefore she should find alternate arrangements for him. T.
  21. I'm still waiting for my friend to get back to me with the info on when exactly the Weims are being shown on Sunday - apparently it's going to be early, but the show website doesn't have the actual info... grrr! We are waiting for our friend who is showing her Weim to confirm the time so we can be there to cheer Izzy on (she won last year). T.
  22. Trust your dog's instincts - there is something she doesn't like about that person. And don't be too concerned, she was only making sure he didn't approach you. If this is a one-off, then I'd not be worried about it at all - in fact, I'd be proud of my baby for alerting me to the possible danger. T.
  23. I would say that if this story were true, there would be widespread evidence of it... does anyone have any idea how many dogs are allowed to play with stuffed toys? It's plausible, but not probable... T.
  24. Happy Birthday Divani!! I still think you are super sexy - even with the boobies and a little bit of extra weight... it happens to all of us... *grin* T.
  25. I was bitten by a Corgi (Pembroke) when I was 4... and to this day, I still haven't met one that hasn't tried to snap at me. I have no problem with Cardigans though... Until I started working with rescue, I had an irrational fear of small yappy dogs... but that is definitely abating with plenty of exposure to all types of smalls... *grin* My preference is for the larger breeds... so much more to cuddle... T.
