  1. Can anyone just rock up and have a go at the lure coursing? I tried emailing the club that organizes it if we need to book for it but never got a reply. I might bring my girl if she could have a go, have always been interested to try..
  2. So sorry for your loss. Run free dear boy.
  3. To the OP, in my case, I wanted a pup of a completely different colouring/marking - I wanted a black or red tri Aussie, and I really didn't like the look of the blue merles. I thought they were hideously ugly! But my breeder thrust a blue merle dog into my arms anyway and said, "This dog is going to be perfect for you." So I took a chance and turned a blind eye to the colour and took it on trial - my breeder was right, her temperament was perfect for me. She is now my heart dog. And you know what! Now I LOVE LOVE LOVE her colour/markings and I love the blue merles - even much more so than I originally liked the blacks and reds! I guess what I'm trying to say is, different colours or markings are really not that important in the long run, colours and markings change especially as pups grow. So even if you don't end up with the colour/markings you want, you may be pleasantly surprised. I know I certainly was. Just wanted to share my experience since you mentioned wanting a specific colour type. And I certainly understand wanting a pup that looks a certain way. Just saying please don't completely rule out a pup that may be 100% perfect for you temperament-wise just because it's got a different colour or slightly off markings. And good luck with your search for a pup. I hope you get what you are looking for. :)
  4. That collar is way cool, Huski!!! Too bad my girl's mane covers up any and every collar she has on. Your photo has just reminded me, I need to get her an In Training Julius K9 harness too.....
  5. I've heard apparently they won't be doing it this year - someone mentioned it in the other Xmas thread. I am hoping against all hope they will though - I've got a 10 page long wish list and am prepared to buy almost everything on it!
  6. I think it's better if you ask her those questions yourself as she will be in a better position to answer you. There is a form to contact her on the link you posted. I am just starting out and have never done nosework before so do not want to give you a wrong answer. All I can say is I am very happy with the course and my dog is well on her way to being able to pass the ORT if we ever have it here in Australia.
  7. I've done NW101, Margaret Simek is a terrific instructor and very helpful.
  8. How many dogs do you need vs how many do you already have? It would depend on the location and when/how often training sessions need to be run for me to decide whether or not I can join so I need to know all the information first. My dog has already been trained to alert to the basic nosework scent (birch, etc) so I wonder if it will interfere with this? I am not that experienced with nosework so not sure if teaching her to alert to diabetes more frequently will cause her to confuse the scents when I do want her to alert to birch. Still I think it's a very worthwhile cause and would like to contribute if I can.
  9. I've got one of those soft reindeers with a ridiculous amount of squeakers for my dog. Will wrap it in cheap wrapping paper and she will have a blast ripping it off. Also waiting and hoping and praying Clean Run will have free shipping soon. And a frolicat Flik for the cat. :)
  10. This is interesting, I am currently doing nosework with my dog and may be interested. May I ask who is the trainer that will be running the training sessions, and will they all be held up in Bendigo?
  11. Oh no, she is gorgeous. I am so sorry for your loss, Huski. The first childhood dog is always special.
  12. Happy gotcha day Scottie, you gorgeous boy full of spunk. Here's to many more to come. :)
  13. I only leave it for a few minutes. Otherwise you would be waiting forever! They say you don't need to wait for it to fully rehydrate before serving. From the website:
  14. I am going, but possibly without the dog as last year I took her, and it was just way too crowded and we all got a bit overwhelmed. So might leave her home this time and just buy back lots of goodies for her to make up for it. How to recognize me? I will likely be the only asian wearing an Aussie Shepherd Club of Vic t-shirt. Always happy for DOLers to say hi.
  15. Are you sure you don't mean carbon monoxide poisoning? Sorry, yes, that's the one - my brain wasn't working this morning. I got a letter warning about it from my aircon people. No problems LOL On a serious note though, do you have a gas heater? There is no such thing as carbon monoxide coming from air conditioners. Yes, I have a gas fireplace. My air-con is also an evap aircon, so I have no idea where the carbon monoxide thing comes from, but it was the evap air con people who warned me about it, which makes even less sense. I don't know much about these things... and now I can't find the letter they sent me about it too. Maybe it was something else - CFC poisoning? Oh dear. If I can find the letter again I'll let you know LOL
  16. Are you sure you don't mean carbon monoxide poisoning? Sorry, yes, that's the one - my brain wasn't working this morning. I got a letter warning about it from my aircon people.
  17. I also walk in the rain - but I hate the rain. My dog couldn't care less. So mostly if I don't want to get wet we stay indoors and do training, tricks etc instead. She knows to chill out if she misses a walk every now and then - same as showdog a walk isn't be all and end all for her. She'd rather play with me to be honest - walkies are just for her to sniff things and exercise.
  18. Same here, I am super paranoid about house fires starting when I am not home. All the talk of CO2 poisoning is worrying me too. My RE agent is refusing to get the aircon serviced even tho it hasn't been serviced in over 2 years, so there's no way I'd leave it on with nobody home. All power switches are turned off when I leave home too.
  19. Mine's a licker too but I love it and encourage it. Tho I have found the more I ask her to lick me, the more she doesn't want to... so maybe try that?
  20. I prefer girls but not because of the penis.. I am just more partial towards the girls as I like the finer, lighter build of bitches in every breed. I also like girls temperaments more. That said I have had boy dogs before and they are great fun and very dependable. Nothing against them - just a personal preference for me.
  21. Wow this is so great - brought a tear to my eye. :)
  22. Ugh what a creep! Regardless of whether you had dogs with you or not, he should have moved along when you indicated that you were not comfortable with him coming closer. People like that with no consideration to others really irk me.
  23. I am so very sorry this has happened to you and I really hope your back heals well and has not suffered any more damage. And I hope your boy will not have suffered any psychological damage as a result of the attack too.
  24. When I last checked I wasn't able to find any registration button for the distance TID packages. I'm assuming they are the online courses that will be up next year? Yet another thing to take my monies..
