Oh great! In a couple of weeks do a video of it if you can - I would love to see how you went doing it with your clever - and presumably very food motivated labs I think with this method the more you click and treat initially the better ok I'll try, if I have trained it enough My labs food motivated? NEVER!! ;)

Dog Not Wanting To Work In Class Some Days
RubyStar replied to Mas1981's topic in Training / Obedience / Dog Sports
Candice, if you want to trial someday, I'd suggest getting along to some more obedience trials and sitting ringside watching others and learning. Once you know what you want to work on, I'd be working on them on your own and not with the class, maybe to the side of the class and join them for the group stays or anything else you still want to learn more about. Being close by you've always got your instructor to ask questions of should you need it. Work Mason in short sessions, of only a few minutes each and put him away for a rest in between. When you ask your dog to trial, they start out only being in the ring for a couple of minutes so you don't need to ever be aiming for an hours focus from any dog at one time! So short sharp sessions and more of them are better than an hour of work in bored or distracted mode -
Dog Not Wanting To Work In Class Some Days

Serket, doesn't sound like a club I'd be wanting to attend -
Ptolomy uses "wait". Pretty sure bedazzled uses a command too but not sure if it's "stay" or "wait". Just to mix it up I use "wait" for recalls or anything that I will be asking them to move off the spot (but they haven't been released from working, so recall is the best example here - the idea is that they know the have to wait there and remain alert for the next command), and "stay" for times I will be leaving them and returning to them (or releasing them from working shortly after). It's just what I learnt ages ago, and it kinda stuck I'm contemplating trying the method of not using an extra stay command if I ever get another dog, but for now, I'll stick with my stay command! Though I have to say, working on the bombproof stay last night for the first time, it was working without the extra command.

I've gone back to basics with Ruby and Millie, too, and trying out this "bombproof stay" thing that was posted. So far so good. We're clicking and treating very often, much to their delight!

Oh I remember! We just did our first Novice round under the new rules last week...I had it in my head that the recall was the last exercise(as in the old days). I have no current rule book so I got onto YT to watch a round of Novice just prior to going to the trial :D I would recommend being a little bit more prepared for a trial than that You must have chosen quite a skilled Novice round to watch to copy it - you guys kicked booty last week!! Obviously wasn't one of my videos ;) I can't imagine 2 rounds of heelwork, that would be awful!! Thankful I started this obedience thing on the new rules!

Wow lots of brags here tonight!! Congrats Jess and Darcy, that is great stuff!! DSO - shame about the COP but sounds like the rest went lovely!! Way to go ness, wasn't a pass but sounds like you're getting close! Has anyone heard from Dova? Hope I haven't missed anyone!

:D ;) I adore these! They look like little Spinoni! ;) I'm guessing that would mean 'beard' syndrome Lovely lovely dogs I "discovered" this breed only the other day while I was bored at work and googling dogs Sent the link to my sister who is in the market for a "scruffer" and she fell in love! If the cost isn't insane and she can get on a waiting list, she is seriously considering getting one of these dogs in the next few years I'd love one myself but would need a farm first for all the different breeds I want
-
Eh, why not! If I can do Novice with a dog who likes to run off to greet the judge and the figure 8 posts, anybody can do it!! :D I wish I could do CCD over again with Ruby, though.
-
Good luck with Pebbles for tonight! Would love to see video of it as I hear she heels like a dream! :D

I'm all talk I usually have a blonde for sale after obedience trials I'll show you the photo evidence on Sunday Oooh really? Who? That would be much more convenient for me
-
Maybe I should bring my Moo, too. 2 Moo's in the back of a Tonka Truck has gotta count for something (after Millie's antics this week, all priveleges should be revoked! and on a completely different topic, anyone interested in buying a choccy Lab? )
-
PAAAART-AAAAY!! (that was what Ruby just told me).
-
I'm picturing Ruby and I both falling asleep at the start post cos a) it's a bloody early morning start and I'm so not a morning person! and b) all the craziness going on in the back
-
How would Ruby cope in the back of my Tonka Truck? I am tossing up whether to take Beans and Moo I think Ruby would cope fine, it's your two I'd be worried about putting up with the Lab! maybe on Monday I load them all in the back and we do a lap of the block and see how they cope - if its ok - then we can plan to go together! Awesome, sounds like a plan ;) Half the petrol costs to Bunbury is a winner to me! Ruby may need a few minutes saying hello to them to get it out of her system first
-
Hmm let's see, drive 2 hours to Bunbury or drive for days across the Nullabor and risk getting abducted by aliens all for the very real chance we won't even get a pass.... PASS!! I'm too chicken to even enter the Perth Royal.

Is anybody considering entering the upcoming double header obedience trial in Bunbury? I'd like to try trialling there but not too keen on driving a couple of hours to sit there by myself all day Anyone interested in a mini road trip with the doggies?

As I've found out not once, but TWICE I've been working on little miss's #2 command because I am terrified of this continually happening in the ring, but I'm going to have to change it. I have just been reluctant to use "go poos" cos in public its a little embarrassing I use "go toilet" for wees and WAS using that for #2's too but it's not really panning out.

Disregard my question in the PM reply about at the canine grounds, I obviously read that before I read this! Thanks for the info! :D
-
Where are you getting him measured?
-
:D We were discussing me trying to find one of those too in the meetup thread I want to do it all, too! But lack of time and money makes it hard!
-
How is your hand GR?
-
I reckon!! Thanks so much for all the hard work, Sandi!!
