  1. Smooch would never be happy without me. He doesn't like people plus has a lot of medical issues so it would be PTS.
  2. I answered other. But in saying that if I had a smaller dog for Smooch to play with it would be ok. He had a spinal stroke a few years ago and never fully recovered from it. I am scared if our larger kelpies knocked Smooch over he would get hurt. Our other dogs play hard and crash into each other at times. I am probably over protective of Smooch.
  3. I buy turkey necks in bulk and freeze, also cut them in half ad they are too big for my dog for a feed.
  4. I used one for Smooch after he had a spinal stroke a few years ago. I basically used it for support, so had it adjusted so his back legs were touching the ground to get him to use his legs. the biggest drawback I had with it was I was forever putting it on and taking it off him as he couldn't lay down with it. Don't know what brand mine is as it was purchased from a friend who's dog had passed away. All I know is it was imported and quite expensive. You are welcome to come and have a look at it. This is Smooch, the bits at the back that are hanging down are for support of the back legs so they don't drag but I didn't need to use that part of it.
  5. When I read posts like these I am so greatfull that I have acreage where I can let out dogs run. I have put chicken wire around approx 2 acres. We do have a sports oval next door to us (not a leash free area) where people do take their dogs and let them off the leash. I did have one occasion where someone let their dog of the leash, it run into our paddock and started to chase the cows, the owners had no control of the dog. the cows didn't like the intruder and turned on the dog chasing it from the paddock. I spoke to the dog owner who said the dog only wanted to play, I replied but the cows were only trying to protect the calf. I also told them if they wanted to let the dog off the leash to go to the other sports area that has a dog free area. Haven't seen these people since although there are still others that let their dogs off the leash but I haven't had a problem with them.
  6. so sorry for your loss. RIP Brock
  7. So sorry for your loss.
  8. Horse rug theft has been big around here for years, our rugs have a lot of graffiti on them and touch wood have never lost one.
  9. I think the person who took the wheelchair needs led poisoning. Hope they catch the low life. I know how much work goes into a dog that is in a wheel chair, its nearly a 24/7 job, and wheelchair's are not cheap, I got mine secondhand and I payed $400 for it a few years ago. I really feel for the owner and their dog.
  10. Our dogs eat the hoof from the horses after the farrier has trimmed their feet, they love it.
  11. In the current NRMA mag there is in the (helping you) section where some one is asking if a dog can be placed in a boat that is being towed, if so if it has to be in a cage or can it be tied up like in a ute. It states - There is no specific rule prohibiting an animal being transported in a boat but legislation under the Prevention of Cruelty to Animals Act prevents animals being transported "in a manner which unreasonably, unnecessarily or unjustifiably inflects pain upon the animal". It also says a person must not carry or convey a dog (other than a dog being used to work livestock), on the open back of a moving vehicle on a public street unless the dog is restrained or enclosed in such a way as to prevent the dog falling from the vehicle" . What this basically means is, so long as the dog is not able to fall out of the vehicle there are no rules prohibiting where the dog is placed. I typed this from the help section as I couldn't work out how to copy and paste it from the on line mag.
  12. Thanks everyone for voting, ES is at work today until 3pm so she hasn't been able to get on here. Thanks again for everyone's support, we have until 9am tomorrow.
  13. I was pulled up by police for having Smooch on the front seat of the car, was told its a offense to have a unrestrained dog in the car. I explained that Smooch had his safety belt on so I was fine. But when you look on the NSW RTA website I couldn't find anything about it. But in saying that I wouldn't have a unrestrained dog in a car just too dangerous. JMO Edit: to remind ones self that new car has air bags so no Smooch on the front seat, poor Smooch won't be happy about this.LOL
  14. can't help with the ears but he looks pure kelpie to me. The first couple of pics makes me think he is a smokey/fawn kelpie. Not many of them around.
  15. If they are the same as the ones I bought from Sams Warehouse, they don't appear to get warm enough. This one looks the same http://www.dealsdirect.com.au/p/heated-pet-bed-83cm-63cm/ I still have to throw a blanket over Smooch and I have mine set up on the lounge.
  16. I have a heat mat the one from Sams Warehouse I think I paid about $35 for it at the end of winter. I don't think it is really warm enough, when Smooch is laying on it I have put my hand under him and doesn't feel very warm to me. Possible for most dogs it would be fine, but I don't know. I have it set up on the lounge for Smooch who really feels the cold (Kelpie who had a spinal stroke) ATM he is on it, has a jacket on and a blanket over all that. Last night he was on the electric blanket in my bed under the covers. He never moved from there all night.
  17. when I clicked on your LINK it took me to my facebook page.
  18. I second this, Smooch is on one heaped tablespoon twice daily mixed with food and water, with out it he can't poo due to a spinal stroke a few years ago. the psyllium husk makes everything pass nice and smoothly and without a lot of effort.
  19. Glad you both are alright and the owner appoligised. I don't blame you for being scared I would be as well. Hopefully the owner learned a good lesson from this and in future keeps his dogs restrained so it doesn't happen to others.
