  1. Yep, same here, no food or water in the actual box. Mum needs to get up to go to the toilet anyway so she can also drink and eat outside of the whelping box. I found Penny only stayed with the pups for about 3 days anyway, from then on she'd frequently leave them, even to come and sleep in my bed. I let her because the box was warm so they weren't in any danger of chilling. When she felt full she'd go and let them feed. They all grew up fine.
  2. awwww so she just waiting like a lady to be helped up? and look at the massive old car in the background!
  3. I suppose these can go in there. The Rolling Stones tour of 1973. As you can see I got right up the front, even though my ticketed seat was about 20 rows back  These were taken with my mothers elcheapo plasic Kodak instamatic. Stones 1972 by kirislin, on Flickr Mick 1972 by kirislin, on Flickr Midnight Rambler, I remember he'd whack that silver belt down on the stage, the girls went nuts. I was on someones shoulders to take this shot, someone I didn't even know. Kooyong 1972 by kirislin, on Flickr Mick and Keith 1972 by kirislin, on Flickr and then I risked my job and followed them to Sydney. I was only 16, and a very young immature 16 at that. Caught the overnight train to Sydney, somehow managed to get tickets for both concerts the day before and hitchhiked home to my aunts place late at night once the concert had finished. Goodness knows how I got through it all unharmed, but I did. Stones, Randwick 1972 by kirislin, on Flickr
  4. found this thread and looked through everyones photos again. I think it deserves to be bumped up again and hopefully added to.
  5. I saved a wild duck yesterday. While walking the 3 girls (whippets) I noticed some young boys fishing, but then saw them with something on the bank that was thrashing about. I realised it was a wild duck and roared at them, "what are you doing" they looked frightened and upset and said they didn't mean to catch the duck. As I got closer I told them to watch out or my whippets will get it. I called the whippets but Feather excitedly rushed forward and the poor kids didn't know what to do. I yelled at her to LEAVE!! and she did. I picked up the duck and then Kibah decided to try to assist and went for its tail, again I told her to leave it, all that chook training is coming in useful now, she backed off. We untangled poor ducky, fortunately it hadn't swallowed the hook and I was able to let it go. I apologised to the kids for initially yelling at them and all ended happily.
  6. SBS is running a series simply called Photo. Here's what it says about it. Covering all the major movements and trends in the history of photography, this authoritative series goes behind some of the most famous images of the last 150 years, analysing and using quirky visual techniques to illustrate the works and show how they were achieved. (From France, in English) (Masterpiece) (Documentary Series) I saw part of ep 1 and am about to watch ep 2 online. Just thought some here might be interested. http://www.sbs.com.au/ondemand/video/2306110302/Photo-S1-Ep2---The-Primitives
  7. I can see tiny eyes. Poor Alera looks as if she's blaming you for this.
  8. very nice. that worked out well that you were going up there.
  9. A friend just dropped round a fox trap for me (whole 'nuther story) but she mentioned something she'd overheard at the vets the other day. The receptionist asked the woman what breed of dog she had and the woman replied German Shepherd/Alsation cross.
  10. Yes, pet grade meat could be full of anti biotics or goodness knows what other medications, and the animals could've been diseased. I used chicken mince, which is from a butcher and I believe is minced up carcasses, and ox cheek which is human grade.
  11. Unless they are just feeding more and exercising less, there is a good chance the dog has a medical issue. Our old boy kept gaining weight after chemo and although I had cut his food so much that he was starving all the time, he kept gaining.. Blood tests showed his thyroid had all but stopped working. Meds and about a month on low fat, good food and he was back to his old self... Nup, just over feeding. The person has only had the dog a year, it was healthy when it arrived but is fed ad lib.
  12. burn those seeds once you get them off if they aren't already growing in your garden.
  13. I cook for my dogs, a mixture of meats and veggies, as well as bones, usually lamb or chicken. They also steal fruit and veggies from the garden and since I have got chooks they eat chook poo, and chook food, and the occasional egg if they find it before I do.
  14. I've had some horrendous grass seeds that have been spread through hay that's been brought in. I'll never be able to get rid of it now, ghastly stuff that wouldn't surprise me if it peirces my mares skin and works its way through her body, some types can kill.
  15. Wow!! That's huge!! All the best with it.
  16. you mentioned sea change Huga, are you moving?
  17. I'm looking forward to seeing them once their eyes have opened. Then the fun will really begin!
  18. Perfect! I bet you spend ages watching them. How is Alera coping with them. They look good so I'm assuming she's doing well.
  19. Are you working at the moment, if so, how do you manage to drag yourself away, I couldn't do it. I could just sit and watch puppies for hours, I find them fascinating.
  20. come on, back on topic now, I want to see photos of dogs from the breeds that specify webbed feet and I want to see how different they are to any other dogs feet, but they cant be hidden by hair, I want to see where the actual skin ends because honestly, I dont think they're any different to my whippets feet. I am happy to be proved wrong though, I just need to see it.
  21. Mother Natures artistry is right. they're lovely
  22. thankyou all. I was lucky because the pelicans aren't always there. A few weeks ago there was a black swan on the lake, I've never seen one there so I took my camera but it was so cautious I couldn't get any close photos, it was just a little speck in the distance, I ended up deleting them all.
  23. Love the mouth wrestling one. You'll have so much fun with your new camera.
