  1. their little faces seem to me, to be a combination of wise old man and curious puppy innocence, all in one.
  2. a long shot but try burping him. I had to bottle raise some puppies once and one in particular used to cry (well scream actually) after being fed. I didn't know what to do but one time I picked him up and cuddled him to try to comfort him. I rubbed his back and he went buuuuurp! and immediately relaxed after that. I know yours isn't on the bottle but he still might be gulping, it costs nothing to give it a try anyway.
  3. I know, for shame on me but then again, I was rewarded with a great viewing session.
  4. tlc's got some rippers, I hope she posts them here soon. If I posted mine they'd be of my bedroom ceiling.......in the dark.
  5. I would think you could report it based on what you've said it does. If you can report dangerous magpies and dogs, why not cats too if they're causing fear and injuries to passers by. Give it a go
  6. they make me smile and laugh everytime I see them. You must be having so much fun with them.
  7. I'm sure mine would have at the start, and I still dont go out and leave them with the chickens unsupervised. I'd be devastated to come home to chicken bits strewn around the yard. While I'm there though they're fantastic now, I just have to watch when they get excited. The other day when I was about to take the dogs for a walk Feather ran out and grabbed a passing chook by the tail. She let it go immediately though. Puck is really good, he has great bite inhibition. Blackie tried twice to stick her head in his dinner bowl and he mouthed her each time on her back, but didn't injure her. She's now learned to stand clear while he's eating. He could've just bitten her head off, but he showed great restraint.
  8. I never thought I'd be able to either. I had the chooks penned for many months, all through Winter and Puck was jealous and would rush at the wire. I never really told him off, I just used to say (and still do) in a flat deadpan voice, so no enthusiasm in my tone, "no, we don't chase the chickens" or occasionally I'd say "leave". Then when the weather started warming up I put the chooks in my old chook dome that I made years ago, and in there they could peck at grass and scratch around. I let the dogs get up close to sniff them through the wire, but all the time reminding them that we don't chase the chickens. I only did that for 2 days I think when I decided to see how they'd go loose. I'm now trying to teach Iggy Mums iggies and min pin cross and it's going well too. One day I might be able to post a photo with visiting dogs and my gang and the chickens all together.............in peace and harmony. Wouldn't that be nice. :D
  9. aah, that must be what I was talking about. Wasn't that about 4 years ago?
  10. I'm pretty sure that happened after Pedigree Dogs Exposed.
  11. I dont think I'd ever be able to train the dogs not to chase cats. I have a friend who has occasionally brought her cats here to stay, but they always have to be securely locked in a spare room. I also used to work at a cattery and the owner has whippets as well. Sometimes I'd take one of my whippets over to her dog friendly cats, in the hope of getting her used to them, but she never lost that crazed look in her eye, and first chance she'd get she would lunge at them. I always kept her on the lead. If I could get them used to cats I'd have one in a heartbeat.
  12. My other livestock guardian dog. I am looking after this dog while her owner is in hospital. It was supposed to just be for one or two nights, but it's been almost a month now so I thought I'd better train her with the chooks. So far she's been very good, but I take nothing for granted, it's early days. 5F6A4058dpp by kirislin, on Flickr
  13. Who woulda thought eh? My high prey drive whippets could be taught to co exist with the chickens. Here's a rare shot of the dogs all together and Blondie the chicken in the foreground. 5F6A4065dppt by kirislin, on Flickr
  14. I've just spent a very enjoyable and amusing 20mins or so catching up on this thread. I cant believe I hadn't checked in since 1st Nov!! So many hilarious photos, and all that play will keep them both fit too.
  15. great shots, and I like the commentary too.
  16. I dont show, but didn't the structure of shows change a few years ago, I'm pretty sure it did in Vic anyway. I recall some friends of mine complaining about it and saying it's not worth showing. Perhaps that also had the knock on effect of less people breeding dogs to show.
  17. When I saw the title of this thread I was sure it was going to be a load of codswallop so I'm very surprised to find there's some truth to it. I'd better put rasberry cordial on my shopping list.
  18. Thanks! I saw that you now have a whippet neighbour! Looks like they'll all get on fine.
  19. hahaha that's the first thing that popped into my mind as well  Very cute though Stans Mum, did you make it?

  21. They look so serious, but so comical all at once.
  22. When I was very little I remember riding on our GSD or Alsations (as they were called back then) back. I wasn't a cruel kid but I realise now how tolerant Caesar was of me. I recall him giving his shoulders a shake and tipping me off headfirst onto the kitchen cupboard. He taught me my lesson, I dont think I tried it again after that. Here he is with my brother. 23. Hey! but it's not Christmas yet!!! I would agree with opeining a flickr account, that way you can post your photos here.
  24. With each of my experiences although they were all different they probably all came down to guarding behaviour of their owners. But the owners didn't recognise or appreciate it, and I can imagine the dogs were completely different with them. 2 of the owners insisted their dogs were friendly and safe, I'm sure they were to them. I would imagine they'd be a fantastic dog to own, if I ever needed to feel safe, I'd get myself a rottweiler. I am sure in the right hands they are good with outsiders too.
  25. this is something that really struck me too, as I am a person who is wary of rottweilers, only because I've had 100% negative experiences with the 3 I've ever been in close contact with. Since those incidents I do steer clear of them now, but I saw them in a whole other light with this lovely tolerant dog. I keep thinking about this video, wondering how long ago it was taken and if she has finally snapped since then and suffered the ultimate price. regarding my wariness of the breed, looking back at all three events I'd say it was probably the owners still not appreciating their dogs nature and what it is capable of.
