  1. That's exactly the reason I took my girls. I never intend for them to end up in a pound, but if it helps dogs of a similar nature then it's been worthwhile. Just because you do, it doesn't mean someone in Nowheresville, Outback does. And I think for people like the RSPCA and LDH, it does mean neat little boxes, as it clearly does for some rescues. Few have the time or the resources to put work into dogs that don't fit neat little boxes. Sheridan that's basically what Diana meant when I asked if Feather would fail a temperament test. It's not that she was aggressive but she was fearful in certain situations and definitely didn't fit into the boxes. Diana said a tester might feel she needed work to improve in those situations and that some of the larger places wouldn't have the time or resources to put into her.
  2. I took Kibah and Feather along yesterday for their temperament tests. Both fared pretty much as I thought they would, no aggression at all but fearful with some things. Kibah was calmer and less inclined to panic but I think poor little Feather was terrified, which I thought might be the case. When it was over and she was back in the car she was fine, but for a while there her heart rate got so high they were nearly going to stop the test. I asked if she would fail a current temperament test if she ended up in a pound and the tester said she might be considered too much effort in some of the bigger pounds so it's quite likely she would fail. My poor little girl, to me it just proves that the tests are wrong for whippets because she's the sweetest funniest little dog. I hope my girls contributions go some way to helping them make a more appropriate test. I would hate to think a dog like Feather could be put down simply because she failed the temperament test. just look at this face. 3. It looks like the kind of pose your dog does alot. I'd try another time to take a similar photo. See if you can take it with the curtains open and good light.
  4. do you know if the back seat buddy interferes with the Air Bags? I know with some cars fitted with air bags you cannot put seat covers on your car seats.
  5. Mine howl in their sleep very rarely, it's a primitve eerie mournful sound isn't it.
  6. very cute. I love the panning shots too, they really show her moving. In pic #2 she looks like she's got a big pink flower stuck on her bottom, what's that?
  7. I've used a normal thermometer for my dogs and horses. I put some glad wrap on it first then a lubricant and in it goes. I still wash it thoroughly when finished even though it was covered with glad wrap.
  8. thanks for putting the word out about it, I'd never have known otherwise.
  9. Hmmm, I might contact them. I've got a shy whippet and one that's going senile, it might be good for them to use them as study subjects because I always worry about how whippets would cope with standardised testing at shelters.
  10. I know, I think it's one of the silliest statements I've ever read. You better get a life jacket.
  11. how come I'm the only one laughing about the statement that everyone knows that dogs ONLY produce 10,000 litres of sperm? Well, I've certainly learnt something cause I am not one of the everyone who knew this amazing "fact"
  12. those studio shots confirm what I thought, it has been taught to "snarl" or smile, on command. It's unfair to have now used that shot to convey a viscious dog.
  13. "Everyone knows that dogs can only produce 10000 litres of sperm in their lives. This isn't just theft, it's abusing a finite resource." is that comment for real?
  14. I wonder if my Dyson's faulty. It doesn't even suck up all the dust!
  15. Little short spiky whippet hairs seem to embed themselves and become part of the fabric, that would have been fine if they had coats the same colour as the carpets.
  16. Poor Annie, thankyou for being so unselfish and letting her go.
  17. Sometimes different parts grow at different stages and it might just be something he will grow out of. Talking to the breeder is a good idea, hopefully it's not of concern.
  18. that was very cute, I liked #33 he's obviously a dog lover.
  19. dont be scared, it's just a python. It wont poison you, just swallow the kids whole. It was Lola I was more concerned about  funnily enough, I originally was going to write that it will eat the dogs but I thought you'd be too upset by that. I figured it's less likely to eat the children so I could joke about it.

  21. I have a Canon 60D. My first ever DSLR and before that I used the SLR my Dad got for his 21st birthday (but he made me give it back when I moved out of home at 21, so it has been a while and I am very out of practice) I'm using a Canon 50mm lens. I had that exact combo for 12 months and got some really awesome pics I love from it Here is mine for today 13/12/12 this reminds me of a scene in Gone with the Wind, although I dont think there would've been a barb wire fence in it.
  22. I would probably say remove the eye, I dont envy your situation though. I know a lady who rescued a poodle cross dog. Not long after she got her, she had to get one eye removed. The dog coped fine, then a couple of years later the other eye had the same problem so she was faced with euthanasing the dog, or removing her other eye. She chose the latter and several years on, the dog is coping well. She potters around her property with no problems and even goes up the park on a lead.
  23. I'm always amazed that people are allowed to keep venomous snakes as pets. I'm not scared of pythons but I dont think I'd want to hold a venomous snake
