  1. her cat catches the little micro bats, not flying foxes.
  2. this concerns me too. I have a friend with a cat who catches bats and brings them in the house.
  3. do you know if it's just fruit bats or are the micro bats also carriers?
  4. I love the 2nd one, very cute.
  5. I know more about my mares breeding and my whippets ancestors than I do about my own.
  6. I just looked up one of your boys! Interesting stuff. Oooh just spotted a new feature - colour distribution. Here it is for Australia Brindle, the most common and my least favourite colour. Not sure if I'm reading it correctly, it says only 36 blues born since 2000. I realise that's only the ones listed with TWA but I still thought it would have been more than that. Both my blue girls are listed.
  7. I dont think it's strange, you can find out alot about a person if you talk to them and listen to what they have to say.
  8. I heard about it too and thought of this thread.
  9. Sounds like trouble. foolish owner in possession of an aggressive reactive dog. Sure to be more attacks unless he gets serious about taking responsibility for the dog. He reminds me of my brother. He used to have an aggressive dog that attacked a little girls small terrier. He said it wasn't his dogs fault because "the dog just jumped into his (the dogs) mouth"

    Whippet

You can ask in the whippet "social" thread, you might get more help there. :D http://www.dolforums.com.au/topic/100087-all-things-whippet/
  11. You left out under the doona.
  12. I tied Penny up outside the supermarket when she was young, so that was about 13 years ago now. I wouldn't do it these days for concern of her being attacked and injured by a roaming dog, stolen, or approached by idiots who dont know how to interact with dogs, but I dont think it's illegal to tie your dog up, it would be illegal to leave it loose outside though. I dont know that the owner of the Newfy is doing anything wrong. I think Newfies always look sad. Years ago I knew of a dog who lived its whole life tied to a tree, it was never walked, never got to run loose even in a yard, but because it wasn't starving, and had some dirty water to drink the owners weren't doing anything illegal. Now that dog suffered, it will haunt me forever. At least the owner takes the Newfy out.
  13. People often tie their dogs up outside our supermarket. They often leave bowls of water out there for them too. I think it's OK if the dog isn't aggressive, I dont think there's a law against it although I've never investigated that. They cant leave them loose, and they cant bring them into the supermarket. I wouldn't do it for fear of my dogs being stolen but I have in the past for a short time.
  14. I wonder if it's like when I lift the rubbish bin lid to drop a poo bag in there but forget to hold my breath. If I happen to be breathing in at the time I taste all the disgusting stuff that's already in the bin.
  15. Just imagine if we temperament tested humans. I'm sure alot would fail.
  16. Lucky he didn't find it in Australia, I dont think he'd be allowed to sell it.
  17. Hi Diana, it was me who mentioned to you that it was on DOL. I'm Feather and Kibahs (the scaredy blue whippets) mum. :)
  18. Maybe just list him as a x bred dog, describe him by colour and size.
  19. Just noticed his hind dew claws, they're very messy looking, just asking to catch on something and be torn off OUCH!!
  20. He does indeed have double rear dew claws... he does have a houndy look I agree... my father in law said blue heeler, but I see none of that in him whatsoever I mainly said cattle dog (blue heeler) becuase of his colour. Catahoula crossed my mind as well but I didn't know if there's any in Australia. I think he's a real Heinz 57 varieties to be honest.
  21. a strange mix some cattle dog but who knows what else, the first thing that came to mind was blood hound but there could just be generations of x bred dogs in him. He's a funny shape that's for sure.
  22. That's OK, you dont have to offer yours for testing then. It's entirely voluntary.
  23. What on earth did they do that could terrify a dog that much? Feather would be frightened in unfamiliar situations, especially if I wasn't there. Apparently some dogs were very chilled out and not frightened by the test. They said Feather kept coming to them and trying to jump on their laps but they weren't allowed to interact with her. I'm sure that would have confused her even more. I expected that she would have been afraid by the ordeal but I wanted to help them get a reaction on a whippet that is otherwise a great little pet, I dont think they fare well in these kinds of tests. Feather is absolutely fine now, back to her cute loveable little self.
  24. I wish you could too Iggy Mum  but I suspect they'd all fall in. I love the way it checks the bowl to see what's in there. I wonder if it ever leaves turds on the seat, I was suprised when they all fell in.
