Travelling Shots - Dorrigo And Surrounds
Kirislin replied to Elise+Hudson's topic in Photos, Photos, Photos
I'm not good at critiquing because sometimes I dont know myself what I should be looking for. They are photos of a beautiful part of the world but nothing really grabs my attention. They are lacking definition to my eyes, and it's hard to single out a feature to look at. My eye just seems to travel around aimlessly. I'm not sure what the controls are on your camera, with a good camera and lens you will be able to draw attention to a particular feature because you can control the depth of field and focus point. The photo with the big rock and the path gives a crowded feeling to me because the path is chopped off. -
You made the same step up as I did, the 7D is a big jolt isn't it. :D I'm in awe of it too.
-
the 7D is an amazing sports action camera. I would imagine the Nikon is brilliant too, I never understand the competition between them, I kinda wish I could afford to have both just for fun. If I won Tatts I'd get some Nikon gear too.

He might have to wear the cone of shame (or in his case, dumb doggedness) as well.

I really want to believe that it's possible to make it safer with education and tougher penalties, but I just cant. There are so many large breeds around now that aren't suitable for just anyone and yet anyone can own them, breed them, and sell them as they want, take the Cane Corso advertised on gumtree for example. But imagine if the government then said we all had to pass a test assessed by "experts" and get a licence of dog handling competency before we could own a dog. Can you imagine the uproar and indignation, and god help us if we failed and had our dogs taken off us. I dont know what the answer is, but I often feel unsafe now when I walk my dogs at the park.

But even with all the campaigns we still have drunk drivers killing people, we still have a massive drug problem. If people dont want BSL to fully come into force then they need to come up with something better than just saying we need to educate. I'm sorry but it wont be enough.
-
exactly, so how can you educate the entire population to be responsible dog owners. It will never happen. It can but it needs money. Lots. To change behaviour you need to change attitudes. It needs sound research and campaigns akin to smoking, speeding etc. sorry but I dont believe it's possible. If the government cant ensure kids leave school with basic literacy and numeracy skills how can the entire population all be taught to have the same beliefs about responsible dog ownership and dog handling? We had someone posting here a couple of days ago worried about her thuggish neighbour who lets his dogs roam, you think education is going to change him?

I'm fine but it's something I've wondered about alot, there's always posts here about close calls or attacks, so many people have dog aggressive dogs, I dont believe education will work, it's impossible to get the message through to the entire population of dog owners, and there's some who just dont agree anyway, they WANT savage dogs. It depresses me. I often think of Ayen Chol, an innocent child sitting in her own home killed by a dog someone thinks they have a right to own and there's no law to stop them. If BSL isn't the answer what is? I'm not saying I agree with BSL.

how can dog attacks (to people and other animals) be stopped from happening in the first place. It's not good enough to punish the owners and or dogs once the damage is done, it should never happen in the first place.
-
How can dogs attacks be stopped in the first place, that's what I want to know.

Totally OT but.. Stuff like this makes me cringe. Perhaps the site owners don't understand that policies like this support pants-on-head retarded court rulings like this.. http://www.prisonplanet.com/articles/december2006/201206illegaltolink.htm Anyways.. this person often has awesome coats for sale. I've bought some of them for my own hounds and then a few for the foster hounds, the cut is really generous (no naked hound bums) but the shape prevents them from getting soiled. She also does whippy coats \o/ that link took me to a custom embroidery page.

I Finally Made My Own Raw Food
Kirislin replied to mumtoshelley's topic in Health / Nutrition / Grooming
why is broccoli bad for dogs? I occasionally give it to mine but they get alot of the brassica family, they love cabbage, bok choy, all the choys! especially the thick parts of the stalks and leaves -
OT but I worry about Bindy running hard on the track with that wonky leg.
-
I might start looking into raw now, I've been given a food processor! :D Bugger! not getting the food processor after all dammit. How hard would it be to feed raw without one, I cannot afford to buy pre-made food.
-
could you post photos of your dog wearing the coat please? perhaps you can sell it, laundered of course! you might recoup some of your money, what size is it? I just read the copyright sign on the site and it says cannot be copied or linked to without permission. Does that mean you need to remove your link to the site?

It's hard to tell from that photo, but she doesn't look very thin. The way she's hunched over her spine would stick up and show. She does look like she's cold there. I hope what ever shes got she recovers soon. If she needs veterinary attention and your sister wont take her then I hope she realises she shouldn't have a dog and gives her to someone who will care for her properly.

Are They Trying To Tell Me Something?

OMG how cute is that silly dog. -
I asked to see a photo here a while back. It would give us a better idea of her condition.

did you know they're related to apples? The rosehips that is, not your dogs. -
I find it amazing that they knew about it and worked out when it was going to happen way back then.
-
I've got something similar, but it's a lovely electric blue colour and a friend gets them very cheaply. I have 2, 1 for dry dog food and one for my chook food in the garage. The rats cant chew through it. I've also some really big grey ones that I've had for 30 years and they're still good, I use them for horse feed.

I was frustrated by not being able to continue because of this question. I apologise for saying it was stupid.

When the Black Saturday fires were happening, I was comforted to know people here were thinking of me and wishing me well and even offering help. I cannot express how much it meant to me at the time.

Speeding Whippets And Salukis
Kirislin replied to Juddabug Whippets's topic in Photos, Photos, Photos
Yep, the owners love it as much as the dogs I think. It's an amazing feeling to see your own dog flying around the track, just takes your breath away doesn't it Meagan. I can see a great difference since you increased your shutter speed. Do you know what the details of the shots are?
