I think you've been lucky enough to capture the ferrari of birds, of animal life for that matter, the Peregrine falcon. How lucky you are to have seen them and even more so to get such great photos.

no you're not, thanks for asking. It's drying out and crusting over but I am waiting to see what it's like when the crusty scab peels off. I am still treating it with the anti inflam cream twice daily and Pucky ignores it all day but goes all sooky when I put the cream on. I'll see if he will let me take a pic when it's daylight.

Poor Frodo, "everywhere he turned he hit a wall" Hmmm are you sure you want to breed with this dog? -
Which Breed Makes The Cutest Puppies?
Kirislin replied to Henrietta's topic in General Dog Discussion
whippets and greyhounds need to be represented here a bit more. Here's a few greyhound pups and Pennys litter of whippets. I didn't have a camera at that time so had to rely on getting other peoples pics -
I get it! Yes, I agree too, I think it's a case for http://www.whatsthatbug.com/ask-whats-that-bug/

Hmmmm, I wonder if they really are bees or are they imposters, maybe they're wasp or fly lookalikes. If they're doing what I think they're doing I would've thought the Queen would be alot bigger, and I'm not sure that they mate in open air either.

It just looks like a dirty matted little dog to me, not even a puppy. No mention on whether it's suckling from the ewe. I bet it's got sharp pointy little doggy teeth.

I see your point Tess. I said get the 7D because it's fun spending some one else's money For myself I really wanted the fast auto focus and fps because I've always had this obsession with capturing whippets in flight coming straight for me. I dont know why, I just love the intensity of them. My dear little 400D really couldn't give me what I wanted there although for many other things it was perfect and if it wasn't for this fixation I'd probably still be happily snapping away with the 400D.

back from the vet. She thinks it's a bite of some kind, probably a spider and is treating the sypmtoms of inflammation and infection. Pucky got two needles and some cream. Already it doesn't look quite as red and angry but it's still inflamed. I hope it doesn't turn into some kind of horror story like some pics I've seen. I suppose we've done all we can though.

Interesting that a couple of people have said it looks like a hotspot. I've never seen a hotspot but I am 100% certain it's not. I've never heard of them in whippets and I've had Puck since birth and he's rising 7 now. I have an appointment for 9am today but I might cancel it because the wound has dried and he's not licked it this morning. I'll have another closer look when it's a bit lighter here, for me to see it with my eyes I need glasses and a magnifying glass as my close vision is not good anymore. I might just take another pic with my macro lens, then I can see what's going on with it. edit, we're going to the vet, I think it's got bigger overnight, although it looks drier, the pus is still there too.

I'm worried it might be a spider bite.

vet appt tomorrow morning.

I'm worried about Puck, he's got this mark on his front leg I first noticed yesterday. It looked different then, it had a dark patch of skin. I bathed it in betadine and put a dressing on it for a few hours to disinfect it. I took the dressing off later in the day. This morning it looked more like it does now. I put Manuka honey on it for a few hours but I've taken it off now to get a good look. He licks it alot and it looks sore, inflamed and infected I think with that strange ring of pus around it. I'm starting to think a visit to the vet might be in order but I'm not sure what they can do for it. He is otherwise happy enough, he had a big run around and play at the park with his brother, he's eating well. I've just booked him in to the vet, we cant get in until tomorrow morning.

the lowest I saw it on DWI was $1300 and I was so tempted to buy a 2nd one
-
He looks like he's wearing a little Santa beard.
-
I bought my 7D from DWI but I see since the earthquake and tsunami it's gone up by more than $350!! thanks Wags and tlc for the comments about the pics. These are easily the best action shots I've taken with it. It was the reason I wanted a 7D but I've had a long teething process getting used to it.
-
Cant comment on the 60D, I've heard very good things about the 50D though. I LOVE my 7D especially after last Saturday when I got my best pics ever with it. I'd say keep saving and get the 7D.
-
congratulations!! You are such a great photographer, I've always wished you had a DSLR as well as your P&S's
-
I'm no expert but I'd say the very fact it took you 3 kicks to get the dog off her means yes you were justified and yes it was an attack.
-
Oh well, at least now you can take the insert with you to see if it fits.

Tomorrow, And The Weather Is Fine! Whippets:speed Machines
Kirislin replied to Kirislin's topic in Photos, Photos, Photos
not sure what an ms is but although we dont encourage other breeds we usually allow them to have a run if they want, and we have time. Of course whippets are given priority but we always find time to let others run if they turn up. We dont have real races, just fun runs, no winners, and no records are kept of who's the fastest dog. It's all for fun. -
The Strangest Cross Breed You Have Ever Seen?
Kirislin replied to jackie_a1's topic in General Dog Discussion
at our local park it looks like a Golden Retriever with stumpy legs but it's owner insists it's a Maltese cross, never any mention of GR in it. He's a lovely natured dog though. The other one I see here is a husky beagle cross. I've also seen pug x labradors around here. -

It's a whippet. We didn't have any greys there on Saturday although they've come in the past. Blacks and now blues are reasonably common now due to a couple of breeders who've been breeding quite alot of them.
