Do You Ever Get The Feeling You're Being Watched?
Lhok replied to mixeduppup's topic in General Dog Discussion
I don't see Treb's face all that often but since he takes up the entire backspace of my little wagon it is impossible not to miss him. --Lhok -
One thing that is probably the best defence against a person who won't respect the off leash law is taking out your camera and taking their photo. If they get cranky state why and if they assault you well you have photos of them. I did it the other day when a lady walked the other way while her dog was pooping. She spotted me and my husband told her to pick it up or the rangers will have a chat to her. She went back and picked it up with the bag she had been carrying. --Lhok

Harlequin to Harlequin matings cause health problems like deafness etc I think that is why they are banned. They also come in a brown/tan colour but it is discouraged and very rare. I tried to get back to the page that had it on it but my link to it in my bookmarks won't work anymore. However several sites did say they can be excessively shy if not socialised enough (though that could be said for a number of breeds) and separation anxiety is high for them. --Lhok

Are you talking about Bonitations? They are done while the dog is growing and then as an evaluation of breeding quality I think. Another couple of things I have read about them is that they seem to have a noise shyness. Not all of them would but I have heard they can be quite sensitive to Thunderstorms. The Beau was one of the founding dogs for the Dobie I believe, I could be wrong though but apparently Louis Dobermann used a black and tan french herding breed. --Lhok

I'll have to have a look at what the page is called and I'll send it too you. If you want a good place to start http://www.overhill.co.uk/ Overhill might be a good place. They have some pretty nice Akitas too. It's the place I first learned about the Beaus. Also if you do import one I would love to come and have a look maybe even a cuddle. :D --Lhok The facebook group is Beauceron VN - Beauceron in the world. Also about cropping all you would need to do is talk to the breeder before about keeping the ears natural. A number of breeders stated that they would do that if that is what the owner wanted.

Try Facebook there is a facebook group I found with Beaus on it it's a Vietnam one but it is awesome. There is also lady in New Zealand with a harlequin Beau that I think imported from the UK.I have been a fan of the Beau for ages they are incredible but from what I have found out they mature slowly and they are tireless workers sort of like Mals in some ways. --Lhok

OOOOH GOOD LUCK :cheer: :cheer: --Lhok -
Yes he is, to date he has ran face first into a garden shed while chasing bubbles, walked into a pole whilst on a walk because I was talking to him and he was trying to score a treat, to which after he fell over he rolled into a mud puddle, He play bowed to a lamb shank instead of eating it and he also play bowed then jumped sideways into a gutter while trying to get a statue to play with him oh and how could forget, almost everyday I have to go help him roll back over because he has forgotten that he is laying on the top of a shallow hill and will go to rub his back then roll over and slides down the hill then gets stuck on his back against the fence. Treble is a bit doofy yes.. --Lhok Gosh he sounds hilarious! I always thought Akitas would be quite serious, but he just sounds so goofy! He is an adorable boy Lhok :) Not sure if he will change once he hits adulthood. He is only a puppy still at 9 months old, although they say Akitas are serious around strangers but act like clowns to their family so hopefully he will mature a little bit but still retain his sense of humour. --Lhok

It's because of this new law I don't take any chances at all with other people walking towards my dog. I put him in a sit and are completely out of the way off the path. Too many times have we seen while doing this little dogs on flexi leads straining to get at my big guy while they are barking and growling while their owners think it is funny. One thing is can a dog rushing a fence growling and barking and who almost jumped the fence to get to me and my dog be reported not that the ranger will do anything because the dog in question is a border collie and the fence is 5ft. --Lhok

Today was a little frightening. There is a house with new renters (been in the place for a month) in it down the road from where I live and it has a very snarly in your face border collie living there. Each time we walk past it the collie goes off it's tree at Treble, I don't know why it is only large dogs (a cav walked past and it did nothing) but Treb was really reactive to the point that he flattened his ears and lunged forward (The only other time I saw him do that was with the teenage boys) I managed to get him out of there but it really stuffed up our walk and he was looking out the entire walk home. Not only was I worried about Treble but I was also worried that the collie was going to jump the fence as it got really close to doing it before the owner came out and grabbed it's collar. So now I am really concerned about how the incident has effected Treble. --Lhok -

The only other thing I did with my dogs is brush them with a curry comb. I don't do that with Treble's coat however. --Lhok -

I've always just thrown an egg into their food or some fish and my dogs coats always come up shiny. However it could just be all my in head that that's what caused the shiny coat  --Lhok -

Is that a baby Clydie in your last photo lollipup? Mr Smooshyface! He is so handsome Cassie and wow Willow has grown it looks like she is on stilts now. --Lhok -
Good fences are a must, preferably over 6ft. I don't have a mally but I do have an akita and if he wanted to he could easily jump our 6ft fence, in fact he can almost put his feet up on the top of the fence if he stands on his hind legs. Also while speaking of good fences if you will need to make sure the mally won't be able to get through it either, Not sure if you have livestock around you but I would think that Mally's have pretty high prey drive. I know you say no rescues but it really couldn't hurt to give an arctic rescue a call they will probably be able to give you some information as to why they are sometimes found in shelters and what you could do to avoid that as an owner as well as getting in contact with some registered breeders of both breeds :) Good Luck :) --Lhok

Treble has been annoying the beejeebus out of me today. I have had to brush him 4 times today because he decided to go for a romp over in grass seed city down the dungeon (it is dark and some what smells of damp with heaps of onionweed) side of the house. I put up a mesh fence to stop him but he just ran through it knocking the starpickets out of the ground. Tomorrow I will be taking to the onion weed with a shovel and maddock, and I might go and get some pavers or river stones to throw over the ground. Hope everyones Sat has been better then mine.. --Lhok -
Just looked through the flickr account your photos of the red panda are gorgeous. I love the sleeping one. --Lhok

Dogs are allowed in outdoor eating areas if there is a public thouroughfare. I always thought that was up to the discretion of the premises owner. --Lhok

I think I'll go against the grain of the greenhound collar program being for every dog as I think that the general public would become more complacent about dog behaviour. As there seems to be a common theme of if the dog isn't muzzled then go for your life with patting/manhandling them. This has happened to me before and it was the most scariest thing I could think of happening (I wrote it up in the puppy thread). Well it was interesting walking Treble this afternoon. While I was preoccupied picking up his poop, a little boy ran up to him and grabbed him around his face and was laughing. I almost died. I yelled at him to leave Treble alone to which the mother who was about 10metres away on her phone ran over and asked if Treble was dangerous in any way. I said he could have been for all you know and she said that she though he was friendly and it was ok for her son to go up to him because Treble was out in public without a muzzle on.. Once I had calmed down I gave her and her son a bit of a talking to I only hope it sinks in. --Lhok

Nice photos Hankodie! Treb doesn't dig holes :p so more evidence that he could be a broken spitz  he does however rip the buffalo grass runners up and prance around the back yard with them Wish I could help with the play pen thing too, Treb prefers to be outside in his Kennel run I think it is cooler out there for him rather then in the house. Not to mention his kennel run has a sound proof box for sleeping in, pavers to lay on, a tramp bed, a refilling water bucket, a shallow pool for him to go an swim in if the door is open, a grassy run and is all covered by roof that has Tarp on the top then tin, then shade cloth to make it as cool as possible. hmm from reading all that I know why he prefers to stay outside now he practically has a house all to himself. --Lhok -

It might be a fluke of luck but Treble actually dropped for me this morning. --Lhok -
where do you go to look at the extensions? or do some breeds just not have them? The Akita standard reads Temperament: Dignified, courageous, aloof, tends to show dominance over other dogs, though the trait is not encouraged. --Lhok

Treble with his big clodhoppers broke my 15 year old shoes today he trod on the edge of my foot as I was about to take a step knocking me over and ripping the sole off the shoe. He did lick me and nudge me to make sure I was ok though, I hope the repairer I take them to tomorrow can fix them. --Lhok
