Stupid Precious Mothers
cannibalgoldfish replied to temperamentfirst's topic in General Dog Discussion
What kind of dog is yours temperamentfirst? If it's not one of the usual " big nasty dog" breeds the mother may not have cared at all because everyone knows only those nasty bully, rotty, dobermann ect bite. (rolls eyes) -
It's just me but the whole " treating like his best mate, sitting between his legs at dinner ect" makes me think the dogs was spoilt and possibley had no boundries put down. We have all seen what happens when someone babies their little swfs, treating a dog like a kid can lead to problems.

Gah! I posted a reply and it has vanished... That photo is my boy boxhead (Wylie) yhis is my other old man Loki When I got Loki his breeder asked all the right questions. and she picked me out the perfect dog as a non shiba owner. He was so docile and whimpysubmissive.. Wylie was bought a a show dog and sadly for him it never happened. He still thinks he is god but doesn't all shibas? That's the thing, if you get a shiba, dont let him think he is a 7 foot tall amoured killing machine. Pull him back on his leash, make him sit and think about why he cant take em/seduce em. my boys together Opps, you mentioned cats... Well, mine are just getting used to my cat. My old cat used to beat the crap out of their little puppy bodies so they are terrified of cats.. :D Ok, since my old cat died they are getting used to my new cat. She scares the heck out of them... Get the point? It's about socialisation. My boys are fine with cats, but walking them outside, all cats that run must be chased. Except the big scary tom down the road that jumps up and chases the dogs back....you cant run from him...

Go to the shiba profile on Dol and look to the right of the page. They are so much smaller than you think :D In another note, one of my boys turned ten this week!
-
If you dont let them off leash (poor recall)and keep them away from small furry animals and birds, can handle them blowing coat and having a snow storm in the yard plus don't let them try to bully other dogs they may be fine for you. :D

Thats funny, I thought that too?

Animals Slaughtered In Tas Zoo Break-in

There was one small part of the whole thing I did find amusing. They have meercats and their doors were opened as well but all of them were still in their cage fast asleep the next morning. -
Is There Any Things Said About Your Breed...
cannibalgoldfish replied to Baileys mum's topic in General Dog Discussion
Shibas are not the devils dog. So many times on here someone says " I love the look of a shiba but I couldn't handle them" They seem to have this reputation of some half wild devil beast? Yes, they are a half wild devil beast but I don't get the fear. Yes, they have a high prey drive... so do a lot of terriers. Yes, they have crap to no recall, so do many hounds Yes, they can be dominant with other dogs, so can bull breeds Yes, they can be a pain in the but, mind destroying freaky stress inducing conundrunm on legs that can read your mind and manipulate you before you even think the very thoughts... but so can most spitz breeds. All the things that seem to turn people off the breed are common dog traits. Knowledge is power. You don't get a shiba to dump it in a back yard, but that goes for any dog. -
What two dogs?

I don't have aggressive dogs. I do have an entire male who thinks he is god and all should bow before him, hence he isn't allowed to greet dogs as he would like. (poor mean me makes him sit and wait until I have the situation under my control, nasty, I know) However I'm now copping it with the other dog. Poor old guy is going blind so he now hates dogs running up to him. He is fine if he is introduced slowly enough that he can see them but the offleader that rushes up into his face scares him and he will growl. Sadly I have only met 1 person with an off lead dog who has called their dog back instantly when I ask. Most spout the " but he/she just wants to say hello!!!!" Great, and my dog wount mind, but on his blurry terms...

"no Dogs Allowed"
cannibalgoldfish replied to Chris the Rebel Wolf's topic in General Dog Discussion
Where there are signs saying no dogs this attitude annoys me.... (not this case but a general observation) -
How strong are you? Akitas can be dog aggressive (so can shibas) and having a large powerful breed on the end of a lead can pull you over trying to get to another dog. Plus, some areas are thinking of putting Akitas on the restricted dog list in future. Consider that as well. I have two shiba btw, yes they scream!. I love the look of shikoku as well but there are none in the country, plus they are not very good as pets yet, not too domestic. Have you looked at agouti coloured sibes? (google is your friend)Could tick all your boxes. Gorgeous colouring!

Shar Pei - Tracking Down Previous Breeder
cannibalgoldfish replied to selkii's topic in General Dog Discussion
Launceston council didn't need me to be a member of Tasmanian Canine association to register two pure breds. Seems odd to me? Of course they didn't even have my breed on the data base so they are registed as another... go figure. -
Which makes sense as they are all primitive asian breeds.
-
Have you thought about looking at an adult dog rather than a puppy? They are sometimes cheaper plus have training and the hard work of feeding a giant breed puppy during the crucial months is already done.
-
but that would have been an interesting breeding... :p

Dingos have black masks as puppies (sometimes older) and throw brindle. So there could well be dingo in them somewhere?

Making The Jump From One Dog To Two
cannibalgoldfish replied to minxy's topic in General Dog Discussion
Is the other dog the same sex? Best avoided with Akitas (and many other breeds)
