All mammals can get rabies. Probably marsupials as well, Rabies in American Opossums is extremely rare but not unknown. Off topic a bit but Rabies will reach Australia eventually. Not from Celebs and their illegal dogs, but from free flying migrations of fruit bats from Indonesia to Australia. Or rats ect travelling with people entering Aus illegally (for whatever reason)

Same, but more diplomatically. Drunk people act weird and smell weird to a dog, I can understand why the dog wouldn't want to go near them. If someone is too drunk to listen to what you tell them about approaching your dog (commands, the cat food advice)then get them the hell away from your dog!

Coat Type Crossing In Dachshunds?
cannibalgoldfish replied to Cougar's topic in General Dog Discussion
This dog, look (to me) like a papillon dog colour (white with big black blotches) but on the body of a dachy. The papillon bit is probably because I think of that breed and it makes me think that this dog looks similaar because of it's feathering. This dog looks like a long coated piebald dachshund. It's probably a pug cross afghan.... -
Coat Type Crossing In Dachshunds?
cannibalgoldfish replied to Cougar's topic in General Dog Discussion
Umm... I'm gonna wander in here to ask a Dachshund question.... There is a dog getting about around my area who looks like a long haired piebald dachshund. Is this a thing? It's a beautiful dog, but I have no idea if it's a cross or a real colour/coat? -
I recently moved house and yesterday I discovered Loki had spent the day digging himself a burrow in the new garden bed. He has been living in it all day.. first hole he has dug in a decade! Life in the old boy yet, obviously.
-
When Loki was younger everyone kept saying he was such a pretty girl. Or asking "her" name. The last few years I just get "oh, isn't he old!" or "awww, poor old thing" He went from being a girl to a senior citizen? He is doing ok for a 13 year old

What's The Worst Stuff You Dog Chewed Up?
cannibalgoldfish replied to kdf's topic in General Dog Discussion
Ah... I don't have major chewers, I have canine surgeons. When presented with a stuffed toy or padded bed they must chew a small hole and pull out the stuffing. Although I do have a watering can with some pretty awesome teeth marks.. However the worst stuff ever chewed is still, hands down.. Week old fermented/rotten dead eels. What wasn't eaten was rolled in.... The smell!!!!!!!! it lingered... -
They wanted them to eat.

Because Golden is also a colour, not a name/type?

No different than owning two British Shorthair cats... I'm happy to post Ingrid several balls of Brit hair so she can toss it all around her house, just to get the feel and all :D Don't get me started on Shiba hair. The stuff is pointy and burrows into everything.....

cannibalgoldfish replied to cannibalgoldfish's topic in General Dog Discussion
Any recommended breeders? I know Dol has a few and some names I've seen a bit more than others. Pm if you need too, and remember this is not urgent at all.. -

Swedish Vallhund Breeders
cannibalgoldfish replied to cannibalgoldfish's topic in General Dog Discussion
It gets better :D Boxhead wasn't dog aggressive as such (because I never let him) but if a dog pushed him or tried to get it on he was all for it You could say he didn't start the fights but he secretly wanted them... Dominant lil beast he was! Loki however, (same breed, almost same breeding) is anti dog. Don't touch me, leave me alone... Mum!!!!!! it's sniffing my bum!! No breed stereotyping here :D -
Swedish Vallhund Breeders
cannibalgoldfish replied to cannibalgoldfish's topic in General Dog Discussion
So far so normal.. Do they have "I am god" issues that someshibas (ok, probably all of them except Loki) have? Are they pains in the butts with other dogs they don't know? -

cannibalgoldfish replied to cannibalgoldfish's topic in General Dog Discussion
Oh god yes.... So you are pretty set for a shiba one day then Mim ? :D I'm just tossing ideas abbout here, long term planning and stuff.... -
So.... I'm team shiba but I lost half the team. I'm always a shiba inu kinda person and that's final. However...... I'm getting another shiba, that's not an issue. But.... The Man Thing (Singe) wants a dog of his very own. We know our next boy is a shiba.. but he keeps talking about getting a dog of his own.. Our old boy Loki is getting on so we need to start to look at getting two dogs I'm putting my feelers out here. I love the vallhunds, and Singe has just discovered them and loves their looks as well! So, info? How do they go? If you can handle butt monkey shiba inu can you handle a vallhund? Can a Shiba and a Vallhund co-exist? I did some googling... I think team shiba can handle a vallhund :D . I know my partner and I think a vallie will fit very well in our pack :D I know they are very different dogs but we will probably do ok. Yes, shock, horror! I might be planning a future pet present! But I'm really looking for info about those lil nuggety vallhunds. Do tell me how we are doomed to fail?

No,it is good in a way that it was so quick. He was running around like a nutter with his teddy the night before then bamn. Went down really fast. Vet said there was nothing we could have done and it wasn't something that would be easily picked up until it got to the end stages. I hope this is true and he wasn't just making me feel better.

My boxhead peed inside today. He has once or twice marked indoors but this was just him standing around and peeing (no leg cocking) This is odd for him. I then started thinking about several recent things that I had dismissed. He has been panting a bit more, he has been drinking a bit more and he is peeing outdoors a bit more. I assumed it was because it's been hot lately and it's normal but now I'm not so sure... I forget that my lil man is actually nearly 11. Is this an old man thing? Or something more scary? I'm home for the next couple of days so I'll be watching him a bit in case it looks like vet. Right now I can't tell if it's the weather or he is under the weather?

Clearly any horse called Flanders will be nicknamed Ned.... Right?
