  1. I did wonder myself... edit, but if it was Dog aggressive it would never have been allowed off leash in the first place.
  2. I'm not up with what rescues and shelters do, do they often walk their dogs off leash? http://www.themercury.com.au/news/tasmania/woman-in-hospital-after-dog-attack-on-hobarts-eastern-shore/news-story/65117260f8900b86c549bc68ddacaae5 A DOG that attacked two people on Hobart’s eastern shore this morning will be put down, authorities say. A Lindisfarne woman, 61, was taken to hospital with leg injuries after the attack near Howrah Beach this morning, police said. A man, 42, received minor leg injuries in a separate attack minutes earlier. The 12-month-old Staffordshire Terrier-cross was owned by the Dogs Home of Tasmania and was being walked by a volunteer foster carer. Clarence Mayor Doug Chipman said he was shocked by what had happened. “The woman that was attacked was badly lacerated on her legs and hands,” he told the Mercury. “She has gone to the hospital obviously requiring a number of stitches. It’s been a terrible incident and there’s another jogger that was attacked as well.” Councillor Chipman said the dog was scheduled to be put down tomorrow and that the incident would be reviewed by council. Dogs Home of Tasmania CEO Belinda Barnes said the incident was a shock. “The foster carer was very experienced and from all our documentation and history of the dog there had been absolutely no sign of aggression in any shape or form with people,” she said. “We handle over 3000 dogs a year and this is the first incident of this kind all year. “It’s completely unpredictable given the history of this dog and I think it’s a situational thing that the dog has reacted to the situation.” The injured woman’s husband said she was walking her dog about 8am today when she was “viciously attacked” by an unleashed dog. The husband said his wife had suffered at least two deep bites to a leg and injuries to a hand from trying to fend the attack. “She is going to need plastic surgery according to the ambulance people ... she’s in a pretty bad way,” he said. An Ambulance Tasmania spokesman said a woman had been taken to hospital after an incident at the beach this morning
  3. Why get a banned breed in the first place if you know it is illegal in your area? You can face losing your dog at anytime if found out
  4. Akitas will shed.... oh dear god they will shed. You will be up to your ears in blown coat. Plus some Spitz can be aloof and not that cuddly... (like certain Shibas I know) Honestly, Dobes and GSDs both have that " tough guy" rep thanks to dodgy American movies. Which is crap, but people are still scared of them anyway. Someone suggested a Bull terrier? That's another breed that puts people off yet can be big smoochlugs. I think you are leaning towards a Dobe anyway? :D Why not get one? The ones I've met have been sweethearts (once introduced to you. :D )
  5. Wait..Greyhounds have urajiro? I thought that was a Shiba term/thing?
  6. Think you need to downsize, Sam Man. My shibas have never gotten leaves stuck in their tails. Loki (my, Loki, not yours) hates his tail being brushed and every year when he blows coat we have an arguement about it. I now leave it alone and it sheds out without matting up or becoming a snargled mess. :D
  7. I'm fairly sure I'd be pulling my arm out if something was chewing on/eating me... Or grabbing and ripping and tearing, or, anything with teeth!!!!
  8. In Lonnie,Jemmy? I know I bailed from one vet to another one because of issues that led to my cats dying that could have been prevented... But both vets never charged to transfer history..
  9. I have an old shiba needing a companion.... Do shibas go to rescue? I'm googling Hawkesbury pound now... We have space for a rescue shiba, but they really don't come up often. All we need is cat friendly, happy with an old man shiba and willing to fly to Tassie... Ok, that's not all but it's the major bits...
  10. Cats shouldn't be allowed to roam (and kill) Double standards
  11. Maybe it comes down to the individual dog and luck? Reading this thread kinda scared me! My two dogs alway had bones, and not chicken frames or wings/necks but lamb or beef off cuts and the huge marrow bones that the local IGA sells that are about a foot and a half long but split lengthwise. The only bit left of those marrow bones is always a 2 inch semicircular bit from the middle that obviously can't be eaten. I looked on the internet to explain what I mean, this is as close as I can get... I never had a problem with feeding bones, I should mention they are/were Shiba inus...(Just Loki now) Ehem... Loki turned thirteen 2 months ago and still has all his teeth Of course, he has gotten comments from vets on his pretty gnashers all his life :D I tried brisket bones for a while to help Loki put on weight but it just upset his stomach...
  12. Pomskeewhhata? Ehem. http://sixteen-feet.com/blog/2013/10/12/so-you-think-youd-like-a-pomsky Also, do note how the cute "Pomsky" puppy photo is actually a baby Lapphund....
  13. Loki tries the "eyes boring into you" thing but I ignore him. I'm actually a soft touch, I throw food at him all the time, but randomly, not just when he demands it :)
  14. No, I eat what I want, when I want. My dog gets what he gets. I give him treats but I'm not bribed. I have a shiba. You can't bribe a shiba... sigh...
  15. Poor snake as well, being forced to protect it's self against 2 dogs...
  16. No, this is people who not knowing why your dog is on a leash,in an off leash area, immediantly start to complain. Apparently your dog should never be on lead in an off lead area!
  17. Also, don't b***h at owners who go to dog parks and don't let their dogs off lead. I have a friend who constantly cops abuse over this and I know I have as well in situations in the past. Maybe they are training their dog, maybe they are socialising their dog. Whatever... At least they are responsible enough to know that letting their dog off lead in a dog park is a bad idea(for what ever reason)
  18. I agree with what you said, Yonjuro, but sadly, breeding your dog is not illegal So actually, it is true, their dog, their choice.
  19. Flansy's middle name is Kennebec, as in the potato, aka Spud :D (So, Kenny would work as well :D )
  20. and the cats... What happened to the cats the new owner had because she didn't disclose the dog was possibly prey driven?
  21. Inside and out. Not one or the other.... :D
  22. Shibas can be narky with other dogs, particularly dogs the same sex. They can be fine with some dogs and then just take a disliking to others. But in this case, I'd say it's more likely the changes she has been through.
