Not exactly dog related (except for the photo of Fairfield where the RSPCA is) but pretty amazing as you just move your mouse over the photos to see the floods, so I thought I'd post it in case some of you didn't see it on ABC News on-line. Troy..please move post if I have put it in the wrong forum http://www.abc.net.au/news/infographics/ql...beforeafter.htm

I bought a few rolls of brushwood fencing, some from Mitre 10 (cheaper than Bunnings) and Crazy Clarks. I think I paid $25-$30 a roll for it...easy to put up...get a couple of packets of zippy ties while you are there. You can just pin it to the existing fence, It looks good and the dogs get pretty sick of trying to eye each other off through thy tiny gaps Also I have used bamboo blinds that I bought at garage sales or charity shops, you can usually pick them up for $5-$10. If they are long enough you can cut them in 1/2 horizontally, tie the ends off, and attach them to the fence. They look good with ferns or palms in pots in front of them.

http://www.couriermail.com.au/news/breakin...2-1225988052699 THREE husky pups had a narrow escape from floodwaters after a motorist ignored road closure signs and ploughed his car and the dogs into a creek west of Melbourne. Police say the 43-year-old man from Plumpton ignored flood signage on Sinclairs Road, Rockbank and drove a ute straight into the Kororoit Creek just before 7pm (AEDT) yesterday. The man got out of the car and swam to safety, leaving the huskies in the front seat of the ute. Country Fire Authority rescuers managed to save the pups a short time later. The 43-year-old driver found at a nearby property is assisting police with inquiries. Alcohol is believed to have been a factor in the incident, a police spokeswoman said.

Why Do You Like The Kinds Of Dogs You Do?
Boronia replied to corvus's topic in General Dog Discussion
Love this thread, I'd be bored if my dog didn't raise the middle claw from time to time. It's nifty there are so many different breeds with so many different attributes. Yep, SkySoaringMagpie, mine don't raise their middle claw, they just stick their tails up even higher -

Woops...I meant (when I said 'post' the photies) for you to just post them on the DOL General Dog Discussion forum. It'd cost ya too much to post out to all of us fat quarter people Rainy. We can always save the piccies onto our computers. What a bugger having to unpick! I HATE unpicking so I decided not to sew anymore...fixed that problem up

here ya go...not such gloom and doom after all tho' it still doesn't explain the other mysteries http://www.couriermail.com.au/news/breakin...f-1225985964860 DOZENS of birds found dead in eastern Romania drank themselves to death, the local sanitary and veterinary authority has revealed. The starlings died after they ate grapes left over from the wine-making process, Romeu Lazar, head of the local DSVSA, told the Agerpres news agency. The cause of death was determined after the contents of the birds' gizzards were analysed, he added. On Saturday, several residents of Constanta, 260 kilometres east of Bucharest, alerted the authorities after they discovered dozens of dead starlings on the outskirts of the city. They said they feared the birds had been killed by avian flu, but the DSVSA immediately ruled out that possibility. The incident came after unexplained mass bird and fish deaths were reported in several countries, including the United States, Sweden and Britain.

We are all fine here, we live on one of the Southern Moreton Bay islands so we are always surrounded by water! though it's pretty squishy here atm, rain gauge overflowing.

I know Curlybert...apart from the native fauna I was wondering how may worms (and bee hives) would have been drowned..no joke, it must make a huge negative impact on the fields that are used for food-crops.

http://www.abc.net.au/news/stories/2011/01...m?site=brisbane Animal shelter closed because of floods Posted January 10, 2011 13:01:00 Heavy rain has also caused some localised flooding in low-lying parts of Brisbane. The RSPCA has been forced to shut its animal shelter at Dakabin as flood waters surround the facility. Manager Tanya Griffin says the animals are safe but it is too dangerous for the public. "We'll have to reassess tomorrow because we also run a council pound here so we can't stay shut for too long," she said. "We'll just reassess it as we go day-by-day I think."

I hose mine off with luke-warm water afterwards, mostly we go to the sandy part of the beach but there is also mangroves and muddy sand that they like to roll in, I let them as the just LOVE it takes ab it of brushing and hosing to get the sand/dirt out though (my guys never really are WHITE!)

I got Penny & Mac from the daughters of the woman who rescued them from BYB's, tragically the rescue-woman was killed in a car accident. The daughters tried to keep these two (along with other dogs) that their mother had given homes to. Due to work commitments they really needed to re-home P & M, so I was lucky enough to get them. I reckon that when we get dogs from other people that have trouble managing to keep them, that we hold them in trust for those previous owners and to give them special care and attention....sort-of the attitude that we are very lucky to have the chance to own them. I think that the new owners of Ollie, Puggerup, will treat him 'special' as they would not have been able to have him unless you have made this (correct) decision. Hope this makes sense

I saw that as well Hollee (I think it is a repeat as I can remember seeing it on, maybe, ABC2 before)...anyway, I loved that cat who thought those new feet were pretty good to help him jump up on those rolls of toilet paper!, and that 'shoe' that poor dog was clumping around on...he didn't mind tho'

Yep Persephone, I hope so too...that one just about to go over is gonna get caught on the barbs for sure.

This may help (I give it to my dog who was prone to kidney stones before I got her) http://www.naturalmedicinalherbs.net/herbs...of-the-wall.php If you want some little plants and don't live in WA or Tassie I will post you some if you will pay the postage. -
I know MM...the poor man who had to get his dog euthanased and the other poor buggers who had to leave their pets and the farmers seeing their stock washed away, it is truly heartbreaking.... http://www.couriermail.com.au/news/flood-v...6-1225979879229

When we were out walking the other day, Daisy my little Westie stopped and ate some long coarse-looking grass growing in the vacant block we cross that is next door to home...that was ok, but a minute or two later she was sneezing and running round in circles and carrying on like a pork chop, I calmed her down, then she had this gi-normus sneeze and this 15 cm (or thereabouts) blade of grass shot out of one nostril...gave me a bit of a fright! Anyhow, I pulled the rest of it out and she thought I had saved her life and did zoomies up and down the driveway when we got home.

I didn't take the piccie LoveLea, some better-camera-photo-taking person (than me) who lives at Cunnamulla or near the Condamine River took that.
