  1. I took Jacko for an offleash walk to a different area yesterday. There was alot of cement and he spent alot of time running on it. He is used to grass. Anyway, I noticed halfway home he started to limp. I took a good look at him and it seems he has worn the large pads on his paws. They aren't bleeding or anything, It looks like busted blisters, but they are clearly sore as he is still tippy toeing today. Has anyone got any suggestions as to what I can put on them to ease his pain.
  2. May have been a one off Aussie3, Lili may have just been trying to get her back in the herd - as you say she was running away from Lili and her instict kicked in. My kelpie tried to herd the kids in the backyard when we first got him, I just kept a ball handy and each time he went to do it I would say "leave it" and reward with a throw of the ball. If yours is as ball crazy as mine she won't even look at the kids while you have a ball in your hand.
  3. My OH cooked breakfast this morning. Bacon, eggs, sausages, muffins, baked beans & holindaise sauce. He cooked far too much so gave all the leftovers to sweet Jacko who enjoyed them immensely. I am sitting here tonight on dol suffering the consequenses. POOOOOOOOOOOOWEEEEEEEEEE. Man has he got the farts. I'm gonna have to put him outside if this keeps up
  4. Yes Erny. Looking forward to having your matter of factness back Jed. Your posts were always very enjoyable to read, even if sometimes they were too long ;)
  5. We were created with different teeth for a reason. Dogs have the teeth of a carnivore therefore they have the digestive system to consume meat. It is cruel not to provide what nature intended. Don't force personal beliefs onto another who doesn't understand unless you can provide actual pro's and no con's of doing so.
  6. Because when I was driving past their house, I slowed down and watched for several minutes that's how. From the street you can clearly see into the living room - they were inside, the dog outside the glass doors. I hope then that you have done the right thing in reporting this. It would be nice to get updates from you down the track to see if what you have done has made a difference to the dogs life.
  7. How on earth do you know that this dog was sitting looking at her owners on the other side of the glass doors in this terrible weather???? No disrespect meant here so I will ask the question first...
  8. Awww what a sweetie & she didn't die in vain. A new animal shelter opened in her honor, how lovely.
  9. Yes I saw this article - front page news.... So very devastating. Why can't we just get the breeding right. It would be so easy only to breed if you are a registered breeder full stop. If people just did the right thing we wouldn't have these problems. I am living in a fantasy I know, but all this death so unecessary.
  10. I have changed jobs and don't get as much leisurely time with my boy as I used to 12 months ago. I just love to watch him go for an offleash free run. He looks back at me with that big smile and tongue to side. I am all alone but for the bats, crows, magpies & my lovely jacko. I here myself laugh out loud. Makes me happy to be alive.
  11. I didn't read the entire thread, but my answer to your question is ignorance & stupidity. I have an employee who informed me that she had the cutest two dogs ever so she would breed them to make cute pups. She isn't in it for the money, she is just a silly girly girl (40 yr old woman) who wants to make the cutest puppies ever. Naturally I rained on her parade and gave her the facts, but she will never get it. She is just plain stupid when it comes to her dogs and cutesy rules over all else. To top it off when I asked her where she got her pooches from, one was from pets paradise, the other from a backyard breeder Unfortunately there will always be education needed in this area. It is inevitable that there will always be $$ hungry or stupid people out there.
  12. Gaylek, do you think that Dusty would go for the throat due to breed or instinct or just based on your relationship?
  13. Yes deelee they are funny aren't they.. My boy has barked at the occasional jogger heading in my direction, but I'm sure if the jogger went to attack me my dog would wag his tail waiting for a pat :D He just gets his tough look on
  14. After reading a couple of recent threads about robbery and I also watched the "White Wolf" today Good movie, but very unrealistic. What do you expect from your dogs. Would you expect that they warn off robbers or attack some stranger that raised their hand at you. If another dog came running at you to attack you would you expect your dog to intervene? This is a genuine question..... I would love to know what behaviour people expect from their dogs.
  15. There is so much that they understand, but to actually push you towards a poo that is one smart pooch. Aren't they so lovely to talk to when they kink their heads to one side trying to understand. The hardest thing to do is learn another language and out pooches do it so well.
  16. Welcome Jazzygirl. Love your pics. Make sure you jump onto the kelpie thread and keep us up to date with yorur growing babies..... Ooooooh I'm so excited more kelpie pups to watch grow up.
  17. I have to agree with the others. 4 untrained dogs at once is far too much for you and them to be rehabilitated. You are kind and understanding, but I think the dogs will have a better chance if split up.
  18. What photo's. Comon, Comon dying to see them..
  19. It sounds like ear mites to me. I doubt that all four animals would succumb to the same allergy. What did the vet state that your dogs had in the past. The only other thing I was thinking was that you may be using a bad brand or an out of date spot or other product, e.g. shampoo, animal perfume, etc.
  20. Hi Haylz27 & welcome to Dol. I chose the Aust Kelpie because It was the first dog I had that was "MY DOG" as a child. She was so smart & loyal she converted me forever. Once I grew up I became aware of the number of Kelpie's & X's that are rescues and don't find a forever home. So I will spend as much of life as possible letting this wonderful breed rescue me.
  21. Love those sit on your a*se and become a millionaire careers. How good are they? How many people do you know that have sat on their a*se and become rich (heirs excluded)
  22. I think a lot of people who don't train their dogs go to dog parks because they think it's ok to let them run around and interact with other dogs.....no matter how annoying they may be......ggggrrrrrrr, these people give me the sh*ts. My BC will do whatever I tell her offlead but some idiot always has to let their dog run up to her and harrass. Her body language clearly says "back off" and then she'll start growling with teeth baring and some people still don't get it.... This is very true furballs. People just don't get it. Please be careful with your BC in the dog park. If she is clearly uncomfortable with other dogs running up to her she may become D.A because of it. It is great for our working breeds to have a free run but not at the expense of their sanity. It isn't good for anyone to be consistently placed in a situation that they are uncomfortable with.
  23. I love off leash dog parks and attend mine regularly, but I go when no-one else is there. People are extremely irresponsible and it is a shame. I have mentioned this many times on Dol, but I think it is worth mentioning regulary. One of the rules of a dog park is, "You're dog must come when called". This seems to be a real problem in off leash parks. Dogs get excited and don't come when called. If a dog rushes at my dog it will not be a pretty sight. My dog is well socialised and obedience trained with an excelllent recall. Owners need to understand that not all dogs are as friendly as theirs. It is not acceptable to let your dog run up to another and say "He's very friendly, he just wants to play" and then get the s---s when your dog snaps at their dogs rude behaviour.
  24. Bitza, but can see ACD in there. She is a cutie. My childhood heart dog was black & white too. She was white with black patches and black spots on her white ears Yes she was not a pretty girl but I loved her anyway.
  25. I haven't read the entire thread, but if Banjo has testosterone issues desexing will definately help. If a child has done something to him that was innappropriate that has hurt or annoyed him there may be something more underlying & sinister in the dogs mind.
