  1. temperament is 1st on my list when I look for a pup I can live with a badly structure dog with an awesome temperament but it's hard living with a bad temperament dog with a good structure
  2. Likes others have said.. you just know. I lost my heart dog, Charlie (aka Charles Wentworth) in February and I still feel a though a part of me died when he did. Charlie and I bonded as soon as we lay eyes on each other, and we simply just understand each other from the get go. I am simply insanely in love with Emmy and Skeeter, but it's a totally different love for them then I did for Charlie. As I always say: Charlie was my heart Emmy is my joy Skeeter is my happiness.
  3. Emmy's heart person is Mr W. Skeeter has a huge heart and everyone is his person but his will choose his family/pack over anyone else. He doesn't play favourites.
  4. It's interesting because most breeders I've spoken too rather sell pups to pet homes than show homes...
  5. I remember charlie was like this after his operation... We packed a crate and took him out to a park for a change of scenery or took him to his favourite dog park
  6. Skeeter definitely remember his littermates, for sure. They won't see each other for months, but they see each other and it's as though they never parted. He plays differently with his littermates than he does with other Samoyed. Its really sweet watching him and his brother, Wolf, and sister, Dany, get together and play. Saying that, Skeeter will choose his JS sister over his real siblings though. Emmy was a singleton, so she is more human focus than dog focus but she will get excited when she sees other Japanese Spitz. Only breed that she will play with.
  7. Ouch poor thing... Em and Skeet get their nail cut when it's needed... they rarely put up a fight. They will only whinge is when I forget to give them a treat after I do their nails. I sometimes use the cutter and sometimes use the dermel.. it all depends what i'm feeling that day, and both are fine with either.
  8. Yeah, you are. Most dogs don't have full control of their bladder till they are 6 months old, so till then, you do have to watch them like a hawk. Toilet training is all about consistency... when you aren't home, can you put him in a room where he has access to his doggie dog so he can go out if he wants/need too?
  9. Had 3 and now I have 2 and in no rush to get a 3rd dog.. but I will eventually get another dog in the future. Even if I wasn't expecting a baby, I'm happy with just 2 at the moment. It's very easy at home and I also have a young boy, who needs to grow a few more brain cells before adding to the mix. Maybe a trial run will be a good idea :)

    Samoyed

I have a 48" for Skeeter... it's really big and can fit about 2 or 3 samoyed in there. I got most of my metal crate from vebopets. They are 4 years old and they still in very good conditions. Mine comes with plastic trays (easier to clean and replaed if need be) but I also have crate mats/bed for the crate too. You will find the Sams will prefer the plastic because it's cooler, Skeeter digs up his mat so he can sleep on the plastic part. You can also try these guys k9pro I get my soft crates from them. I would get a metal crate from them but Mr W will kill me, my dogs all have 3 crates each
  11. All the major decision in my life, I do think about how it will effect the dogs but I never felt I've sacarfice anything.
  12. I'm so sorry to hear about Charlies passing. I've just looked in the Rainbow Bridge topic and found that I was in hospital at that time. He sure was a special and resilient little dog and I used to love reading your stories about him. There are lots of great memories of him here on DOL and I'm sure, as you said, he is ruling his world over the bridge. Thank you... he will always be my special guy. I hope you are well too.
  13. I love mine differently but I don't have a favourite. I am equally insanely and completely in love with my white fluffies. But, saying that, if Charlie was still around.. he was always referred as my Number 1 :p
  14. not funny at all. It's bloody hard work owning a small reactive dog and so when people think it's funny, it annoys me...
  15. I suggest you to to a dog show and walk around see other breeds and talk to their breeders/owner. Although by the sound of things.. I wouldn't suggest a Spitz breed, I will think a Cavalier King Charles Spaniel will suit you better :) All dogs regardless they are spitz breed or not, if you put in the work and effort, you're going to have a good dog... you are rarely going to get a really good dog and obedient without training and putting in the world. Especially if you want the dog to be trust worthy off the leash. Spitz breeds are known to be independent and having their own mind, they have a streak in them where you if you don't have a sense of humour about it you are going to go mental... I know a few lappies and even though they are amazing dogs, I have seen what kind of work their owners do mold them that way. They are working breed dogs, so they like to be worked... BTW, I have a Japanese Spitz and she is my best trained dog I have at home. I trust her off leash completely :p But, I won't recommend you a Jap Spitz either... they are companion dogs (which means they like being you with at all time) and leaving them at home alone for long period of time will cause them stress and they can get destructive and very yappie.
  16. Charlie will eat everything but he did not like mixing his food together, eg; he was happy to eat sardine on it's own and the dry on it's own though, but he would have gotten upset if you mixed it together, and that goes with everything. He was such a quirky fella. Emmy loves her food and never had problem with her.
  17. that is the cutest and sweetest thing i've seen... she sure looks like she is having a great time :)
  18. I've read about that. To me, that's how i taught my dogs the 'look at me' command and I wouldn't use it as recall, but I do understand what they are trying to do.
  19. Skeeter: hits me with a toy sit on me barks/whinge/woos or simply just make all sorts of loud noise till I look at him throws himself on the ground whinging right in from of me acting like a goof Emmy: she taps me ever so gently and waits for you to look at her and when you do look at her, she either jump on my lap or she turns onto her back for belly rubs.
  20. Emmy is taught to return the ball into my hand. I used clicker training for her to return the ball to me (she loves training). She loves loves playing with me, the ball/toy or game isn't what makes her excited, it's me. Skeeter naturally love playing fetch, but if he doesn't return the ball/toy.. I simply stop playing with him and walk away and he comes over with the object and nudge me with it, of course, he gets heavily rewarded for it - either with a game of tug, treat and, of course, another game of fetch :) He learned quickly that when he brings the ball back, it's get thrown again.. if not, then game is over. ETA: Fetch time is played separately with the dogs. Emmy doesn't play fetch if Skeeter is around because Skeeter doesn't fetch the ball, he will always go chase Emmy.
  21. Consider youself very lucky. My dogs usually have fairly firm stools and sometimes these little pebbles pop out. It's not nice to wake up to, even though they dont smear, they're hard, but to think I've been sleeping with it. Well I can think of better things to wake up to. I bet.. poor you (but sorry, I have to )
