Most Councils in metro Melbourne specify that the lead should be no more than 1.5m long. Unless of course the dog is being walked on leash in an off leash park. Extending leads are not suitable for dog walking around suburban streets, unless of course you have the extending lead locked to 1.5m. which defeats the purpose of the extending lead. If you're walking your dog around the 'burbs' on the ex. lead you might like to check your Council's regulations. I never said where I was walking my dogs. I don't need to check any regulations.

I don't see a problem in still waiting until 12 months before desexing. I guess talk to your own vet and do some googling.

They don't show the breed classes live. You have to cross your fingers and hope your breed makes it onto the list that they tape and then put up. Not sure how quickly they put them up though.

You might not see any purpose but I do. They are a valuable tool for me. How so? Not trying to be snarky, just genuinely interested. I can see them being beneficial in a training scenario or in places where you want to give the dog roaming space but don't want them off lead, but I imagine they wouldn't be very effective in an every day walking situation. They are very useful including in an everyday walking situation. But it depends where your everyday walking situation is. The leads are a tool, like lots of others things, don't blame the tool for misuse in the hands of an idiot.

mine has a breaking strain of 50 kilos, it is not a $2 shop one.

My dogs don't agress other dogs when on the extender lead.

 to say the least. Danois can tell you what they do in real life if they wish

yeah I don't have to go to work until Sat 1pm so will be doing a fair bit of watching. Tomorrow's a good day for me, go show the hound then come back and watch Crufts and hope they show the greyhounds before I succumb to my bed

that's so sad SLF. I'm agreeing with everything Perse is saying. I too am worried about the little girls anxiety. Big hugs to you.

I had a bitch who had a small mammary lump removed. I never tested it. She never had any more and lived for another 5 or 6 years

yep, looking forward to it!

Money would likely be the reason ,imho. Who would pay expenses and damage control would be in the minds of officials. I would be so shocked if my dogs did that that the very first thing I would do, as soon as I could, would be to have them PTS.

(Waves at fellow sufferer). Brandi is now also protective of me thanks to the stupidity of others. So I have two reactive greys and one who also carries on between me and the person screaming abuse at me for having dogs who react poorly to being rushed by others. Thankfully Hermon is bombproof Thank Dog I can take my greys to the local slipping track for a run I used to take Stan to the slipping track in Gosford as another friend in was in greyhound rescue and she was a member but she has stopped going now. Here you have to apply to the track and then it has to go before the board and if you're accepted they give you a key as it's padlocked. Stan loved going there, he'd go nuts when we pulled in the gate, reliving his not so glory days  I pay $50 for the key and am lucky they are very supportive of pet greyhounds. Off to a meeting tonight about it actually. Mine go nuts too and they don't have any glory days

I have the utmost respect for Steve, but 100% is a big call- there are very few things in life that can truly be 100% guaranteed. A rabbit or a cat might just be too tempting for the best trained Husky 100% of the time and at every place. I do believe that very good recall can be taught to any breed but 100% seems improbable to me :) Dunno. I happy to be proven wrong though. You would need impeccable timing. I know with the greys, they can be running around flat out and then wham!, they are into a different mindset and are blind and deaf to anything outside their own little world. It's why they run into trees or each other and kill themselves. If you called them before that switch flipped you'd be fine, afterwards nope.
-
yeah and who pays the vet bill? It is not normal for dogs to socially interact with other dogs who are not part of their pack.

When I've tried codes with the dol website they don't work.

did they check him very soon after they got him? How long has one been missing?

what about using the suprelorin implant? It can be used on bitches as well as dogs. I've never used it but at 11 would be loath to put a bitch under for desexing.

My Princess is 7 and a half and is still precious about getting her feet wet!

If you look at the link whippytails posted it does state that arrangement may be made to go and groom under the supervision of a staff member but did not mention the cost. I know and I still don't know if the cost is true or not.

It may be confusing that the temperature is not posted in centigrade however conversion shows that the dog does not have a high temperature & is within the normal range so there is no reason to be in a panic. As the dog seems to be acting normal, is not ill, & the owner is not an idiot & was merely asking if others have experienced a phantom I can't see the cause of great concern here. it's exactly as I posted last night before the OP said she was not a novice breeder. I was responding to the initial post and I still stick by it, better to be safe then sorry and risk losing your dog just for the sake of a consult fee.

I've had 4 greyhounds at once, they all fitted inside the house :-)

Someone on FB asked them and they were told $80 per half hour to groom and yes it was to have a staff member stand there and watch you. At this stage I don't know if it is true or not.
