  1. people who want to commit cruelty to a small animal are not going to bother paying money for a victim, they will find one in the street, or FTGH in the paper
  2. Nicolel, I was only curious about the dogs breeder's cause the show bred grey world is so small and you are in Vic and I could account for all recently born Vic dogs. I also don't blame the breeder for not taking the dog back, sometimes it just can't be done, but I sincerely hope you didn't have to cover all her vet costs. I admit to taking offence at, what I saw, as a swipe at GAP. GAP does a fantastic job for thousands of greyhounds, but they do have their rules and regulations to follow. I hope Phoebe gets a forever home soon, just remember she will need to wear a muzzle while out and about ( I am not aware how much you know about the law and greyhounds ) and her new owners need to know that. ETA and they are not allowed off leash even in off leash parks and wearing a muzzle
  3. I don't actually think that's how it works though. My understanding of their protocol is that dogs go into GAP foster care where they are assessed etc - the foster carers keep detailed records of each individual dog's traits so that it can then be matched to the most suitable home...they look at all aspects of the dog and of the potential adopter (not just if they are cat friendly and the adopter has a cat) in order to make the match as close a possible. Therefore the dog in question wouldn't be rehomed straight from you; it needs to go through the same process as any other GAP greyhound. At least that's how it works here in Qld...I am assuming it is a similar process in Vic. yes that's how GAP works in Vic too. If I want a green collar for any of my dogs, they still have to go to GAP to be assessed and I pay a fee for that. And I would have already paid for all their vet work as well. My word is not good enough, nor are my many photo's, nor should they be.
  4. I've figured out her breeder, it's not hard, it's a small world. Once a grey has a green collar they are a GAP dog, fully backed by GAP, lifetime support etc. I can fully understand GAP's reluctance to grant a collar to a dog who will be passing through. GAP has their criteria to be followed, as do many other rescue/adoption organisations. GAP can't afford to have things go wrong.
  5. it's really hard babysitting something that cute, send her to me so you can have a rest
  6. I have used it and seen it used, some time ago since I myself used it, but the friends I know with dogs on farms have hot wires on all their fences, including the house yard.
  7. a couple of hot wires, to keep the cattle away, cause you can't use them on dogs, would teach them to respect fences very well.
  8. you could buy one of those carriers things that tow behind, they are on ebay, type in dog trailer, and then she could ride in that when she has had enough exercise.
  9. GAP has plenty of greyhounds waiting to get in, all of which pay the $100 surrender fee and are happy to do so. Being cat friendly she would have been snapped up in no time. Would love to know which breeder she came from, there were no Victorian show greyhounds born May 2009.
  10. I've only had one dog that pulled my clothes off the line. I tried many tricks but the easiest thing was to keep her confined when I had clothes on the line. She grew out of it by around 18 months or so. Miller loves to drag the blankets around the yard from the kennels but he has never touched the clothes on the line. Thank dog!
  11. I did mine, day 2 or 3. Only 2 pups and much reading up and watching of video's to make sure I would get it right. My regular vet was away, the others looked at me like I was really, really bad for wanting them off.
  12. I consider anything you teach a dog could be called a trick.
  13. that's what I have done, stayed home
  14. because you can still see if the bloodlines are throwing good stock.
  15. I wouldn't recommend any breed unless they have suitable fencing to contain it to a house yard. It could still roam around the farm with the kids but they need to be able to contain it at other times.
  16. I wouldn't be using any lubricant unless you are 100% sure it won't kill the sperm.
  17. well done to all who made it through to today extra congratulations to the winners
  18. Yay for greyhound Flick and Mel, her breeder. Flick is out of Mel's Layla, who was RUBIS at the 2009 Adelaide Royal.
  19. my vets have always said you must test your dog before giving heartworm meds if the dog is over 6 months old.
  20. The idea is to learn to read the signals your dog gives before your dog gets into the red zone so you can prevent it happening. Proactive rather then reactive.
  21. your kidding right? You can't seriously be suggesting that a few scones and cream is going to sway a judge in their decisions? How do you know the handler isn't a member of the club and they were asked to take the morning tea in?
