  1. well I would say the companies claim is correct. Haven't done any right turns yet but I can assure you that Fern, who does not have a lot of loose leash walking by my side experience , was gaiting very well besides me on the bike with the lead from the walkydog loose most of the time.
  2. I wondered if it was because she's so long that the back tire might have brushed her as we turned even though I tried to make it a very wide turn. Oh well I have a nice little starters route that I can do that only has left turns. Don't want to put her off too much or she won't go!
  3. I got my walky dog today and gave it a try with my greyhound Fern, on a harness. We did very well in a straight line, but need a bit more practise on the cornering, she was alright turning to the left but jacked up each time we turned to the right. Will have to keep a close eye on her "armpits" until she is a bit more okay with it all. I also had a collar and lead on her. I felt so much safer and more in control than just using a collar and lead.

You both put up a good fight but it was not to be RIP Angus Take care of yourself Danois, you did what was best for Angs
  5. I suggested he put her in her crate cause I knew she was looking for trouble. IMO she didn't need to go to the toilet, she was just being a brat cause she didn't get her way. I do give her lots of praise when she pees outside. This has been going on for over 2 years now. Clearly we're doing something wrong, but hopefully some consistency with NILIF will help matters. why is it impossible for her to have been wanting the toilet in this instance?
  6. my thought too, sore higher up the leg, maybe the shoulder.
  7. very good. I am finally starting to dabble in layers.
  8. I used on a very timid and skittish dog just to help her cope with living in a home. I think it made a small difference. There was no way this dog could have gone to obedience or anything out of the home, she couldn't cope at all, so it may help your dog.
  9. don't stop at populated places, middle of nowhere, like TangerineDream says, is best
  10. Hi Charlie's Mum, no, the dogs won't know each other. I would have them sleep seperate. It is good for dogs to learn to be on there own. Plus, if they decide to start playing in the middle of the night, it might be quite nosiy! They can always sleep together later on. All my dogs are capable of being on their own. I think it is good for them.
  11. I usually set the alarm so I get up before the pup. I set it twice for the first few nights, then cut it back to the middle of the night only and stop totally by end of the second week. Last toilet trip around 10, then again at 6.30. Plus pups sleep in the crate in my bedroom and if they need to go out you can hear them. I rarely crated them during the day, just watched them like a hawk, didn't get a lot done but it's only house work
  12. I put coats on the greyhounds but never put a coat on the GSD's.
  13. I too second the gold beads. I had my GSD done many years ago when it was brand new in Aus. It worked brilliantly.
  14. So are you are registered breeder and does your girl have main registration papers? Is she a good specimen of the breed? What does her breeder have to say, do they think your bitch is breeding material?
  15. Congratulations. It's exciting isn't it? You need to read up on variable reinforcement, plenty of stuff on the net and I'm sure you get lots of links from people here.
  16. I'd never give something that treats everything. I prefer to use a monthly heartworm that does just heartworm, worm them 3 or 4 times a year. Haven't treated a dog for fleas for several years now so why give them chemicals they don't need?
  17. I couldn't find any that didn't require you give yearly vaccinations
  18. Greyhounds in PJ's and how Fern hates getting her feet wet!
  19. okay a little whacky here but do you have wire on top of the pens, has it been raining a lot and could the stains be rust spots? ie drips from the pen roof
  20. Oh Warley, so sorry to read this news. You must be devastated. My Sam will be there to welcome him and show Houndee how even slow greyhounds can catch the bunnies up there.
  21. Just saw this thread Trish as i don't often venture in here. So sad. Run free sweet boy.
  22. yep, I'd take her out at 9 and problem solvered! I have a mature male dog here who is house trained but he always needs to go out around 7 pm. He just has to at that time and he wee's like there is no tomorrow. I take him out again before bed but really if I didn't take him again he wouldn't care, he can easily hold on 12 hours or more overnight, but he needs his 7 pm wee break. He's nearly 8 now and has been like that since I got him at 18 months old.
  23. Back's still a problem. MRI next week. The trips to the track are working well. I shut the front gates, open up the car, dogs jump in and I do the same when I come home. They are only on lead for about 10 feet!
  24. I could walk them one at a time but I am a bit worried that even one, on an ordinary collar, may give a leap and tweak my back. Of course I could just take them to the slipping track and let them run, then go walking on my own. Why didn't I think of that 1st
