Does anyone remember the case of the BC puppy who died from a disease that they could have been tested for? It was heart breaking. I'm after the link if anyone can help supply it

Advice for avoiding puppy scammers ??
Rebanne replied to Woody&Julia's topic in General Dog Discussion
I've helped 2 people avoid scammers in the last week. If they offer to send you a pup and you only have to pay for the transport up front and pay for the pup once you have it, it's a scam. I think they think people will be less likely to do something if they "only" lose the transport cost. Luckily both lots of potential puppy buyers asked questions. Oh and if the sale price is too good to be true, then it's usually a scam. -

There can be a lot of politics involved in breed clubs. That wouldn't concern me. Really, in the end, there is no fool proof way to pay for something and guarantee you get it unless the transaction happens in person. I've sent 3 pups overseas both buyer and seller had to trust each other and we did and everything worked out fine. -
Looking for a dog with certain characteristics
Rebanne replied to wild_rose's topic in General Dog Discussion
It is simply unfair and too risky to expect a dog to put up with what you say your son may do. If you are convinced a dog is the way to go then you need to get a service dog, one specially trained. And you need to start teaching your child to be gentle and respect other's space, which may be difficult. I would be asking your child's Dr or school if they could recommend a service dog organisation to you, that is if they agree it could be a good idea. -

No to a greyhound with a naughty kid! Wait until the child is older and knows better. No dog should have to put up with a naughty child- 32 replies

Felt mean putting the dogs outside tonight while I went off to work. Not their first time in below freezing temps but the first for this year.
-
I don't rug up the Greyhounds at night until it's under about 12 when they are staying outside due to my shift work. As it gets colder I'll put 2 coats on them and have several types and weights so I can mix and max. Inside at night it is usually when it's forecast to be under 10. They are mostly inside during the day so rarely coated but days like today yep I put coats on them this afternoon.
-
depends if I've worked a night shift or not When I come home in the morning, the dogs are let in, fed and they go to bed. Usually don't move until 3pm or so. Sometimes earlier but not often. Don't get put out again after breakfast. When I am not working they get tea around 4 - 5 pm inside. They often go out again then and also last thing before I go to bed they are chucked outside for 5 mins, I rarely watch them to make sure they go. If they do need to go at anytime they wake me up.

any dog that has to sleep outside MUST have a good quality kennel with plenty of bedding. Too cruel otherwise. And shaded in the warmer months

Talk to your breeder, they should be able to help. Hopefully they gave you a diet sheet or similar. But some of the things I add in for my puppies is eggs, pasta, chicken wings/necks. Wait until his upset stomach has settled before changing too much.

a bit late to help you now but thoroughbred stallions served mares 3 times a day back in the day when they had a restriction of 60 mares a season. No one missed out if several were ready at the same time. I think the number they can now serve is 100 so I imagine they are still serving 3 or even 4 a day (24 hr period) when needed. I would have let your boy mate your 2nd girl again. Fingers crossed for puppies from both girls.

I just throw around a heap of sheets or polar fleece blankets where the girls sleep. I don't like putting pants on them at all

Greyhounds are not allowed off lead basically anywhere in Vic except for private property. (or a slipping track if you have one near you or at a sanctioned Dogs Vic event)

There is a link above. Very good picture and explanation. Quite common in my breed, Greyhounds.

Femoral Head Osteotomy ? Good news stories needed :)
Rebanne replied to persephone's topic in Health / Nutrition / Grooming
One of my friends dogs had this done many years ago. Had a great quality of life. Long passed now but not because of the hip problem. -
Vaccinations, what's the correct amount?
Rebanne replied to kezz05's topic in Health / Nutrition / Grooming
I never do Kennel Cough unless I am boarding my dogs. -
Good luck with that! I wouldn't be curbing his enthusiasm. By all means teach him to wait until his food is put down and to take treats nicely but I love pups/dogs who love their food. Makes life a lot easier
-
What is his height and can you post a couple of pics of him standing? Side on if possible.
-
Is he skinny? If he is a true cross of the breeds named I would imagine he is quite underweight. If he is well covered then maybe he is not that cross and the food you are feeding him is fine. But wing tips are nothing for most breeds of dogs, agree with persephone whole carcasses would be much better. I don't like Black Hawk as a food, my dogs don't do well on it but others do. I'd be adding whole eggs, sardines, meaty bones etc to your dog's diet. Lamb flaps are excellent for putting weight on if he needs to do so.
-
I can't believe that is any way enough food for him. I feed a 31 kilo greyhound a minimum of 600 grams minced chicken carcasses and 2 cups of dry per day. This is really in the wrong forum, I'll ask for it to be moved to the health/nutrition forum where more people will see it.

As I had a lovely bright yellow collar and lead for my GSD many years ago I would never consider yellow meant anything. Red is the warning colour for many things though I also have a lovely red collar and lead set. So I don't pay attention to what colour collar and lead a dog may have on. So many pretty colours. BUT no way would I have let my dog interact with the border collie. The runner's response would have been my clue not the colour of a lead. Though I still wouldn't have let my dog interact.

so it has opened after 2 1/2 years? I'd be taking the dog to a vet pronto

I've only just seen this. I'm so sorry. I've never written in the rainbow thread. Run free Scottie boy.
