We have puppies! 2 seen on the ultrasound, 4 or 5 felt by palpation. Vet confident more then 2. Will xray closer to due date which is 10 - 12th Sept.

make friends with a local butcher and see what you can buy your meat for. Buying from a supermarket is not price friendly for sure

If a male has retained both testicles then they look just like a neutered dog. So just because there are none to be seen does not mean the dog doesn't have them. I know for a fact someone bought a "neutered" dog that actually had 2 retained testicles and had to be desexed.

Wasn't Greg that said that Scottsmum it was another neighbour
-
To go into labour they have to drop to under 2 (pretty sure it's 2) so less then that I would think

ask your breeder what they are feeding the pup and go with that. You do not need to boost any complete food. Ask your breeder these things, they are the ones breeding Poms.
-
Actually you can't tell they don't have any problems unless they are hip scored. I have owned 2 GSD's with HD. Both quite bad. Both showed no signs while young. The first one wasn't xrayed until the age of 6, the 2nd one at 18 months. My first was titled in several dog sports. Both were brought from registered breeders, the first was from someone who, in hindsight, was a puppy farmer, the 2nd was one of those sh!t happens from several generations of scored family members. If your pup does end up having poor hips there are many ways to keep her happy without surgery.
-
run away very fast from that vet. Of course the puppy screamed, wouldn't you if someone tried to pull your hips out of their sockets. Keep her quiet for a couple of days and restrict her exercise. If she remains lame take her to a different vet at a different practice. You need to speak to your breeder.

It's a big problem. Most of the time everything is alright, most people are honest, but it's the ones that aren't that can break you -
Knuckling over can happen very quickly and be reversed nearly as quickly.
-
Oh I missed this. I'd still treat her by only feeding adult dry.
-
at 9 weeks of age this can be turned around in a few days. But I have to ask, how old was the pup when your daughter got her? And did the pup have the knuckling from the start? Stop all puppy food and only feed her adult dry for a week. Supercoat is fine. The great Dane ladies advice is very good but as she is in America a lot of food she recommends is not available here. Scrappi&Monty I rear all my pups on supermarket food and I continue that with my adults. As well as raw. It's about 50/50. My dogs do very well on their diet.

Yes I have a good idea who you are talking about. At least I know what happened to mine. And no track record, they were a newbie. As for your no nuts whippet boy, the breeder should have known they weren't down by time of sale. And certainly shouldn't have sold him as a show prospect until both testicles were down. -
I had a cross breed who had that. 20 years ago now. Can't quite recall what I did but it all turned out fine. First thing I would do is get the pup off all puppy food and onto adult. I wean my pups onto puppy food but by the time they are 8 weeks old they are on adult dry.

As a registered breeder I've been done like a dinner twice by people buying my pups. One is another breeder, one a person who wanted to show. Good liars are very good at their craft It resulted in the death of one dog I took a pup once, not my current breed, which I wasn't really happy with. I learnt my lesson and now have no problems in sticking to my guns -

I'm in for over $3000 already and no idea if Phoebe is pregnant but as I have a breed that is unpopular to buy my price has remained the same for 9 years. Just a well I think being a breed guardian is important. -
by the look of the set up it is the breeder advertising

no dry food is natural. Is your new girl in good health with a good coat? If so no real reason to change her food. You could add chicken necks for instance to her meals if you don't want to feed just dry food.
-
Lots of breeds that are used in making the so called designer dogs are desexed before sale. Can't say I blame those breeders.

Long shot: Nutrition advice for general skin complaints
Rebanne replied to Scottsmum's topic in Health / Nutrition / Grooming
cortisone tablets will relieve a lot of inflammation. Yes can have some side effects but if it gives an old dog comfort why not? -
have you spoken to the breeder of your concerns? Sometimes sh!t happens for no reason and some vets are very quick to blame any problem on the breeder. The problems you have mentioned can occur in any dog of any breed whatever the price paid. Sometimes skin irritations can run in family lines but more often they just happen. Bone and ligament problems? Well sometimes that can happen because of poor/incorrect upbringing. But bone and ligament problems is also a very broad statement and could cover many, many things so bit hard to judge on the likely hood of it being a inherited problem. I gather from the photo you've had your dog since a young pup? (He's very cute by the way) Has he always had these problems or are they new?
-
You know you just can't find a puppy inside a specified time unless you are extremely lucky and happy to settle for anything that shows up in your 2 week window.
-
did you get your natural mating?
-
Really I wouldn't be worried. A local vet is not the best to tell if your pup has a problem. Sure anyone can see the bad ones but a slight problem? Even if there is a problem your dog may never require surgery of any sort. Best to ring your breeder and chat to them and do as Persephone said and ring your insurance company and ask a general question. You can redo the xrays after your dog fully grown, around the 18 month old mark, do hips and elbows, and send them away to be scored. Your breeder should be able to help with where to send them etc. Keep your pup lean as he grows, that will help him grow well.
