Seems like a modern Metro Dog, to me. I bet he knows what coffee he likes best, too. And the best coffee shop where the waiters don't look like kangaroos.

Someone posted this on a science blog re the Noah's Ark find. Show me some fossilized platypus tracks heading south and you can count me as a believer.

What others have advised. Plus I have 2 extra words -Belly Bands. Here's a good person who makes them. Was recommended by breeders. http://www.lovemyfurbabies.com.au/

You must be psychic! I was just at the shops next to a busy road.....& really had to try one out. Lady carrying an elderly JR girl (on a lead). She put the girl down briefly to pick something off a display. JR girl started to wander towards the road. Someone yelled...'Your dog's getting away!' Lady turned, got a fright & started to chase her. Which spooked the JR girl & she started to run, too...towards the road. I was up the footpath a bit. So I crouched down, arms open & said, 'Come on , darling!' Thank god she ran into my arms.

Husband of a friend had a little JRX that slipped his lead on a walk beside a busy road. Little dog thought it was a great chasey game....recall forgotten as he danced around, perilously close to the traffic. In desperation , the man lay face down doing the squeally noises act. Back came the dog, sniffing curiously at the back of his head. Got grabbed. Bloke said motorists must have thought he was insane. Obviously a desperation tactic....when all else fails in an urgent situation. I doubt very much anything would bring back a young lab taking off with his prey of a dead rat. Only maybe waving a BIGGER dead rat???

What Persephone said about managing the young fellow on the trip. Friends drove their 6 months old tibbie boy from Melbourne to Adelaide. He travelled in the back seat. When a traffic policeman stopped them & stuck his head in the car window to say they were over the speed-limit....there was a continuous low growl from the little bloke in the back seat.. No problems in the trip for this pup....except for leaving a probably terrifed police-officer behind him.

As she runs off for some happy interaction with other dogs & children....that's what I'd offer her to come back. Crouch down low....so you're on a height level with dogs & kids....hold out your arms beside you. And call her, with warmth in your voice. When (let's hope!) she comes running into your arms, give her a big playful cuddle. Exactly what she was looking for in heading so enthusiastically to the dogs & kids. Silly as it sounds....if she runs away, don't chase her. If the above doesn't work on an urgent occasion, hide behind a tree & make high pitched squeally noises. (In urgent situations, some people lie face down on the ground & do it!). Novelty & curiosity tends to bring the dog back.

Got to love labs & their enthusiasm. O/T but we saw a young yellow lab come into the vet emergency hospital at the weekend. Dad heading the procession with 2 young lads about 14-15 yrs carrying the lab....one at the back & one at the front. Young lab still smiling. Very nice Dad said to the receptionist...'He (the lab) was playing touch football with the boys. And he tackled the ball & bent his front leg into the ground.' Lab just kept smiling from his human stretcher. Then he spotted my golden tibbie girl. And his ears shot up....'Blonde at 12 o'clock, boys!' Obviously, it'd been one time when Enthusiastic Young Lab Velocity had got the lab himself! I loved his spirit, tho'....still ready to chat up a small fluffy. Fortunately, he was well restrained by the 'carriers'. It was so sweet....a true 'lab' moment.

I'd go for boarding at the best of recommended kennels. That'd be the most secure option. No matter who you have coming into your house for 3 weeks, they won't watch your Goldie every minute of the day. I would worry terribly if I were overseas at the thought my dog might get out....especially as they'd be missing their family.

Well, not in Australia. But tibetan spaniel owner in the US was also a search & rescue person for aircraft crashes. He trained 2 of his little tibbies to go into the wreckage with camera leads attached. The tibs were small, light & surefooted (with their hare feet). He said other crews with their sophisticated equipment used to laugh at him when he turned up at simulation practices with 2 small cute looking dogs under his arms. Until, they got to work....

Not so....if something proactive comes out of it. Like a suggestion for signage on crates at dogshows, asking spectators to get an exhibitor's agreement before touching the dogs (as would be the case if they were mutts). With maybe reminders over the loudspeaker system....politely reminding spectators.

I read the biography of Hitler's mistress, Eva Braun, who loved pet dogs. Hitler told her he wouldn't buy her a dachshund because it was the one breed of dog he couldn't control. So I'm all for dachies representing World Peace. They reduced Hitler to a snivelling heap.

Smart labbies. They figured you'd be s soft place to bounce off....not like the mailbox & the tree. Psssst.....wanna buy a buddhist dog? They even zoom in peace with the whole world.

Wouldn't it be great to have that Dad on video....for education purposes. But good for you, itsmeg, that your Dane was so well trained. Aziah, I sure see why you'd be cranky. Such a silly thing for adults to allow children to do....poke fingers at dogs. When new people with toddlers moved in next door, a neighbour saw the children poking fingers thro' the fence to the dogs at the back. He rushed to stop it....then noticed the children's father was standing watching them!

Just my opinion. But I'd rather see the grumpy older dogs sedated for grooming than muzzled. I'd think muzzling could highly stress an elderly dog. My elderly tibbie girl used to go to sleep on the grooming table.

Yes, I also assumed it meant that the single reason for breeding & selling dogs, was to make a profit.

Four-legged Friends Prove Priceless On Financial Front
mita replied to lappiemum's topic in In The News
But just think what this money buys. It's proven that the love & company of a good companion dog give health & well-being benefits. -
Ditto what others said. Shows there's some decent people in this world. Plus good care of his dog WILL help the man's recovery. No doubt about that.

What To Do If A Dog Off Lead Attacks Your Dog
mita replied to miss shel's topic in General Dog Discussion
I carry a pop-up umbrella...one that pops up fast with a whooooomp!. Makes a good barrier & the popping noise gives the attacking dog a fright, making it less confident. Someone posted on another thread that they carry a citronella spray that's specifically for 'sending off' attacking dogs. I'd not heard of this product before. -
Healing Vibes Needed For My Aunty's 2 Dogs (photo Update!)
mita replied to lovemesideways's topic in General Dog Discussion
What a horrible situation! Thank god for the bunch of men who came to your Aunty's aid....& probably finished up saving Zach's life. And good on the council for sounding if they mean business about tracking down the idiot owner. 'It'll let go when it's tired????????????' Imagine a car driver saying, 'I don't have to do anything. It'll stop when it runs out of petrol.' Stupid, irresponsible....& not fit to own a dog, that woman! My warmest thoughts going to your Aunty who's been thro' sheer hell. And all blessings for the recovery of her dogs. -
Beautiful colouring. Good to see another find the best of homes for life.

Woot :) Need Help Finding A Breeder For A Coworker!
mita replied to ~tj~'s topic in General Dog Discussion
This is a very good question. Please tell your co-worker to do a lot of research on kelpies & talk to people knowledgeable about the 'working' breeds. Before there's any search for a puppy. -

They will if a good argument is presented properly. Yes. The evidence is there that makes a clear separation....for safety issues at least. Which should be appealing to government sources.
