  1. Good win! Sad thing is that such a PETA person goes by the simplest slogans. They say buying from a 'breeder' dooms another unadopted dog to die in a shelter. But never, ever distinguish what kind of 'breeder' they're talking about. While evidence points to the fact that those breeders who breed wisely, socialize their dogs & puppies well & rehome carefully actually prevent dogs being dumped in the first place. And they're more likely to be registered breeders.
  2. I know that Qld law deals with debarking (pitch lowering) by a vet, as a regulated procedure. Two conditions are laid down by law for when a vet is permitted perform it. I presently know of people who are close to meeting all the conditions, but nothing has worked, so next step MAY be consulting a vet who has experience in the procedure as well as checking out the case to make sure it complies with the law. I used to know the name of a Brisbane vet surgeon who was willing, experienced & successful in doing this procedure. But he's long retired. So my question is, do any Brisbane people have up-to-date contact for such a vet (or vets)? Please PM. Thanks.
  3. Our oldest was a little black mixed breed dog, Tessa, rescued as a puppy after being deliberately thrown from a car. She lived until she was nearly 23 years old. She looked like a cross between a Poodle & a Tibbie, but could've been simply from a long line of mixed breeds. We thought she must be old at age 14 years & we jokingly referred to her as 'Grandma'. She lived for years after & came to answer to 'Grandma'...not her name. So we had to change her name on everything... including her Council registration. She used to go to the University of Qld Vet Clinic, where students would hold her in their arms, saying, 'This dog is older than I am!"
  4. Shows I've never actually seen a tapir... I'd thought they were much smaller. :) Those photos have set me straight!
  5. You've given Chloe the opportunity to be what she was born to be. A lovely natured, happy little dog who loves to play. Well done.
  6. I loved that photo. Who couldn't love that pair!!!! :)
  7. Magic is one of the prettiest black & white Tibbies I've seen. :) That's how I got my first tibbie. I went to that same Durack show & spoke to breeders in person. A Qld breeder who'd been considering retiring an adult female to a good pet home, decided we were the kind of people she wanted. Like a number of breeders, they don't advertise...but wait for the genuine enquiries. The best reference Colleen has is that gorgeous, much loved Magic who's already in the family. My first tibbie, Angel, on the day I first saw her at Durack: (click enlarge): Our neighbours' pet tibbie, Brockie, who came from the same Qld breeder (his muzzle was a bit too long for showing). He was a real man's dog. Loved his dad: A sample of the lovely Tibbies that Denise at PAWS in Sydney has rescued. A pair of girls, Thelma & Louise (long gone to a good home):
  8. I love my Tibbie girls because it's like living with two clones of the Dalai Lama. Always smiling, full of love & so centred. The Buddhist monks of Tibet sure produced an enchanting dog breed. Click, enlarge:
  9. Good spotting. But that little one's been checked out with the breeder who thought not suitable for the circumstances.
  10. Absolutely, Boronia. It's websites like Newcastle Dog Rescue's that I show people who are thinking of adopting a rescue dog. One of the greatest benefits of checking with rescues like that, is how well they've come to know a dog's nature & needs via fostering in home situations. This allows best humanly possible matching,
  11. I'm impressed with the detailed & honest descriptions they give on their website. They provide the kind of information that would help make good matches.
  12. I phoned Wide Bay Animal Rescue again...& the rescuer confirmed that Rigby has been adopted. They have yet to mark his PetRescue ad accordingly. I understand that Boronia's friend definitely wants a Tibetan Spaniel. But, just in general, the rescuer asked would there be interest in a PugX. Might've just come in, because I couldn't find it on PetRescue yet. While looking, I found this adorable ChiX named Piccolo, who's with that rescue. He looks like a baby possum out of a children's story book: http://www.petrescue.com.au/listings/311214 Meanwhile, the search for an older Tibbie girl (or maybe honey-bear boy?) goes on. :)
  13. Denali, good searching... they're both lovely dogs. And in Qld. I was searching Pet Rescue, too... & found this adorable young Lab X girl called Nova in NSW (7 months, maybe a bit young). Then I saw she's not available for interstate adoption!!! http://www.petrescue.com.au/listings/313846 There's also 2 Qld registered breeders on Dogzonline Labrador page with female adult Labs for pet homes. http://www.dogzonline.com.au/breeds/mature/labrador-retriever.asp
  14. Thank you Tibbie_tabbie. Colleen is in Qld (as am I), she said she wants a female but I will send her the link anyway Maybe, as an option, I can bully her into getting a male Rigby :D I phoned Rigby's rescue days ago & they said he'd already been adopted. Maybe they haven't changed their ad yet... or the adoption didn't go thro'. I'll try again. You're right, TT, some of the Tibbie boys can be real sweet honey bears.
  15. ... and the photos take my breath away. I keep thinking they can't get more gorgeous... & they do. Wonderful rescue work!
  16. Lily, the exquisitely pretty tiny Tibbie that comes to stay, snorts to show she's happy. Her dad calls her Lily Snort Snort, which makes her snort more. I'm sure god meant her to purr, but something got lost on the way. :)
  17. Anything dogs can do, cats can do. In US city, Seattle, the Mayor turned City Hall into Kitty Hall for the day & brought in cats & kittens from the Animal Shelter for adoption. His replacement Mayor for the day took over his office... very cute little guy (click enlarge):
  18. This little bloke, Sonny, might be too young for what your friend is looking for...he's described as a 'lively' 2 yr old, Tibetan Spaniel X. I also suspect he'd love the company of another lively small dog, too, to play with. So may not be suitable.. His gorgeous looks are very close to a purebred (& maybe he is) . He's just come up for adoption from Friends of the Pound at Tweed Heads (just over the Qld border). Details on Pet Rescue, click on the pic to enlarge: http://www.petrescue.com.au/listings/312241 ADDED: I checked further with the rescue & they said much what I'd thought: Sonny would do best with a family or with another little dog I think - would suit active retirees who would give him adequate exercise.
  19. I once spoke to a man in charge of household deliveries from a big supermarket. He was a dog lover himself (owned blue heelers). He told me, from the deliverers experience, which were the dogs most likely to bite them when they went into people's yards. He said it tended not to be the big dogs... they just stood & watched the men come and go. He said when they got bitten, it tended to be a small dog. And he told me the breed that stood out. My lips are sealed because there's more factors than just breed label alone :) I own small dogs, but they're buddhists. :) :)
  20. I love this video of well socialized small dogs and tibetan mastiff at a dog park. Little dogs just accept their Big Lug friend who so wants to play. Lot of good human work has gone into the breeding/raising/socializing dogs like this bunch:
  21. I'd have been tempted to reply, 'Are you supremely stupid or seriously delusional?' That little dog has the sweetest eyes, so full of gentleness & patience. Who couldn't love her. You posted her pic in Boronia's thread...& the first thing I noticed were those lovely eyes.
  22. Got your PM & replied, Boronia. Wow, Rigby looks gorgeous. He also looks remarkably like my retired showgirl, Nina Zena (who was an Aus Ch). Interesting to know his background. The rescue group's description makes him sound like a real honey bear... & that's very much like my Nina Zena, too. ADDED: I just phoned the number for Rigby. The rescue told me he's been adopted. Not surprising. He appears a fine example of a p/b tibbie, to me. Dogmad, your Cleo has Tibbie eyes.... again those eyes are just like my Nina Zena's!
  23. How totally great you let us know. So glad this sweet Iggie is home and safe. Best Wishes Agree!
