Waiting For A Puppy This Thread Is For You
Esky the husky replied to jess live die's topic in Puppy Chat
That's so cool * and further envy  * You should totally do some racing too ( if you aren't already) The scene in WA is totally awesome, really friendly people and a real great companionable group. Met a lot of them that travelled in a big group so the ACT for nationals earlier this year. -
Yep, they might be a young family that goes out for long walks with the stroller and takes the dog along for rides in the car when dropping kids off at kindy or whatever. That said sparkycat's suggestion of a Lappie is not a bad one either if the family could commit to a little bit of grooming :)

Our Miah Turned 1 Today! (27th Nov 2013)
Esky the husky replied to julesluvscavs's topic in General Dog Discussion
Oh so spoiled.. Happy 1st birthday Miah. :) -
Not quite sure if we're getting a pup at this stage, waiting to hear. Buuut I'm broody as hell  I've only got a few metres of the yard to secure- the rest is solid house and garage walls & colourbond fence. Thinking of using those famous compost panels secured with stakes. Luckily if those panels fail, the worst that's going to happen is just having the pup loose in the normal backyard, which is secure anyway.

So just measured up my potential puppy yard. It's around 48m2 roughly. Is that an acceptable size? The area would be between the eastern fence and the side of the house. Potential pup would have full access to a single car garage, as shelter- about 1/3 of the space. The rest of the yard is grass/ dirt, with a nice shady tree along the south border. I've already got a small kennel in the yard as well as a clam shell for water play. Probably just leave a few toys in there per day. Rotation ;) The main concerns I have are space- is this enough? Chewing- hope pup decides not to chew garage door  Too much concrete? And the fact that the puppy yard shares the wall with the dog bedroom (inside)

The Woolworths Pet Insurance Advert
Esky the husky replied to Christina's topic in General Dog Discussion
To be fair I thought the same about another pet insurance company. Petplan I think. They 'owners' are talking to camera about why they have the insurance. And one bloke has a border collie who chases cars, and he wants the insurance just incase. FFS don't let the thing off lead to chase them. -

A Follow On Thread For Those Who Now Have Their Puppy
Esky the husky replied to julesluvscavs's topic in Puppy Chat
Huski, do you or will you recommend continuing the puppy gold with older pups. Or is that not appropriate for pups 8 weeks plus? -
Well even if the OP is trolling, this thread may be useful to others who pups may have contracted parvo. No point speculating about it. Hope the OP realises how avoidable the situation is and doesn't bring another pup home anything soon.

A Follow On Thread For Those Who Now Have Their Puppy
Esky the husky replied to julesluvscavs's topic in Puppy Chat
Has it worked for you with pup's before Huski? Only asking because I'm looking at getting a pup, and raised Esky on raw. I spend a lot of time being neurotic and trying to get the balance right. But the problem is it doesn't seem like she developed properly. She still has a lot of 'knuckle' in her front legs. Not sure whether my feeding is to blame for that or very early desexing? -
Honestly even though 7 isn't 'old' for a sammie, he's not getting any younger. I'm sure he'd cope with a smaller appartment type lifestyle. I know for a fact my 4 year old sibe has and would again. If you must rehome you're out of the picture entirely, not fair on the dog or the new owners.

What To Look For In A Reputable Breeder?
Esky the husky replied to snusnu95's topic in General Dog Discussion
Seems like there are a fair few available at the moment including from the breeders you mentioned. See Dogzonline Puppy listings It is possible to get a pup from a good breeder in the timeframe you have, but don't let yourself be rushed if these ones aren't right.. -
Fish Based Grain Free Foods
Esky the husky replied to LisaCC's topic in Health / Nutrition / Grooming
I can't comment on the grain free variety but the other types of Holistic Select were well received. Currently we feed the Earthborn grainfree. It's was actually my gateway into kibble, I used to feed just raw, but was really happy with the quality and ingredients in that food. -

How Do You Pronounce...
Esky the husky replied to Pretty Miss Emma's topic in General Dog Discussion
^ I'd always wondered if they were the same thing! * phew* I'm not (completely) mental -
Shes gorgeous and you're doing such a great job. Sounds like a more challenging pup for sure. Much more rewarding when she's a grown and matured adult. :) One thing I'm not sure anyone else mentioned but I read you were signed up for puppy classes. I would probably ditch that unless its run by a very good trainer. Otherwise all you get is a pup free for all, some 'interesting ' training advice. Get pushed to buy the vets food and desex now, and maybe end up with a dog who'd rather play with other dogs instead of listening to you

Recommended Books For Novice Owners/ Families
Esky the husky replied to Leema's topic in General Dog Discussion
I found the Ian Dunbar books made me really paranoid. Well the 'before' is really good, the after made me so anxious.. Never let a pup have an accident inside, need to meet 100+ people etc. On balance though I like to draw bits from everything I've read. I actually really liked one of Cesar's books. I dont nessasarily like his techniques with rehab. But his messages about dogs are solid. Treat your dog as a dog not a human baby. Excercise, discipline, affection. Rules, boundaries, limitations .. -
What To Look For In A Reputable Breeder?
Esky the husky replied to snusnu95's topic in General Dog Discussion
In breed subforums there should be a thread on yoir breed that you can ask for suggestions. The other thing I feel I should add is don't be afraid to look outside your state if you get good recommendations, pups can be flown to you without much hassle -
Question About Breeders And Waiting Lists
Esky the husky replied to Esky the husky's topic in General Dog Discussion
Sorry part of what I said wasn't clear. I phoned this breeder only last week. He said that the litter that is now around 4.5 weeks should have a suitable pup for me. Playing the waiting game now
