  1. I am a huge fan of those compost thingies as well. They're currently sectioning off a bit of dug up lawn so it can regenerate
  2. Do they have 'blood types' like in humans?
  3. Salukibel if you're more confident using a bike then bring it along. Normally bikes are run as a different class to the scooters though :) All the experienced people have scooters and most will lend them out happily :D Shame you can't make this race, our next one is the weekend after :D
  4. SalukiBelPlease please please come out :) I've always wanted to try running a sighthound (had crazy dreams of running a failed racing grey ). But if i always live vicariously. Some racing sibes are at and under 20kg and do a great job. We can work out gear for you to have a go. :) If you're keen to have a go we've got a race on this weekend, I'll post up the flyer when I'm on the pc. Edited to add flyer
  5. Love the shots of Elsie Here's miss thing from today's training day
  6. Basic rule of thumb, if the ground doesn't move when you mobe your hand across it, don't run your dogs on it. Dirt, grass, sand, etc We run on forest trails which are dirt based. Gundogs kick bum at racing by the way ;) Basically what Discodobe described. Large scooter for 1-2 dog teams. Rigs for 3+ dogs Big 4 wheeled chariot type things Come have a look in here if you want some more tips. DOL Sledding Thread I didn't mean to totally derail the whippet thread
  7. Nooo, prey on the trail is awesome, as long as it's going the same way you want to go. ( also this isn't helping narrow down breeds I want personally  ) Top speed of 35 km/hr
  8. Ah thanks. :) I've heard of ( but not yet witnessed) a whippet who runs and wins at sled dog racing somewhere in vic. Crazy
  9. Yep there is plenty up in QLD Northern Exposure Gig racing club runs events. Their first was meant to be this weekend, but was cancelled due to weather predictions. Here's their facebook http://www.facebook.com/NEGRCInc?fref=ts
  10. How tall do they get and roughly what do they weigh?
  11. I had a look on the dog specific treadmill websites for the dimensions suitable to my breed. I found a second hand treadmill that matched my guidelines for $150. :)
  12. My husky isn't a traditionally docked breed. But she has one of the worst tails ever. She still has no undercoat on it. Hasn't since she was a puppy
  13. I've hear beetroot being a great supplement for sprinters (humans) so I've been adding it.to.our raw mix for a while
  14. Victorian folks, your first race is this weekend. Hosted by the Northern Victorian Sled Dog Club SA-liens Training day out in Kuitpo Sunday morning
  15. Been looking into different lighting systems over the past few weeks. Getting my rig prepared for racing. I started thinking it might be cool to see if there were any decent lights that attach directly to the dog and provide some light in front of the dog. So far I've found those light up LED collars (these things) and these clip on thingameebobs So a few questions: 1: Does anyone have experience with any of these type of products? 2: Does what I'm looking for exist? 3: Do these lights iritate or otherwise impede the dogs sight?
  16. My girls first collar was a cat collar of some kind. You forget how tiny puppies are until you go pick them up
  17. Very good idea to have some training of some kind under your belt. Even a pet first aid cert, or cert II in animal studies or whatever it's called. Something to differentiate you from the school kid who'll run people's dogs for $5
  18. Nope back of the papers aren't signed So join dogs SA, get breeders in NSW to enter her into a Vic trial Hmm maybe the ET will have to wait til next year afterall
  19. Thanks, And does it matter if I'm not Esky's registered owner on her papers?
  20. So I don't have to join dogs vic to enter a victorian trial Good good :)
  21. I'm a complete and total n00b to this business of getting titles on dogs. Can someone explain, in veery simple terms how I would go about entering a trial. I want to enter my girl in a Victorian ET. I am in SA and not a member of anything at the moment, how do I go about entering. Can someone walk me through the process from the start
  22. A little off topic, but when I take Esky down to the inlaws place i muzzle her, in th interests of safety of the idiotic free ranging chickens. I normally have her leashed or.crated unless I can watch her. My father in law decided to let her out into the yard while I was in the loo. No joke within a minute she had managed to chase and catch a chicken. Luckily the strength of the bite was reduced enormously and she only ripped.out feathers. But the.muzzle did nothing. Moral of the.story, the whippy lady is tripping. Oh an thankfully the chiclen.from.my story only los some tail feathers, she's still fine
