Endurance Test 2013
Esky the husky replied to Abbiestar's topic in Training / Obedience / Dog Sports
Does anyone know anything about the murray valley et ? Where abouts is it actually held -
Esky normally starts in the middle of the bed *eyeroll* then off on the floor if she gets too hot
-
Weightpull is exactly as thename suggests, the dog is harnessed and attached to a cart. They have to pull the cart 5 metres in under a minute, easy at first but the weight is gradually increased until there is only one left. The alaskan malamute club in your state runs events. Most clubs are really good to help you get started and can lend you gear so you can give it a go without paying for a custom made harness
-
Can you do something to stimulate her mind? Training tricks helps tire out the brain, zaps them for longer than just physical excercise. You could try a dog sport, if she loves pulling you around perhaps you could harness that and try weightpull :)

I would love to see this I bet sighthound zoomies are spectacular :)
-
Right now parts of my backyard are looking a bit worn, thanks to Esky and what I like to call her 'Zoomies Zones' Whenever she gets a case of the zoomies she always runs on the same path. A triangle between big shady tree #1 and #2 and the back door. She'll run flat out as fast as she can in a straight line do a very sharp burn out turn, and then run as fast as she can on the next flat and repeat. I've fenced off one of the trees now to try and get the grass to grow back. Poor Esky :p When we've lived on bigger fully fenced properties, zoomies was laps and laps of the house, like a greyhound track. But since we've been suburban it's always weird angular zoomies. Other dogs do that too right?

Waiting On Zeke's Breed Dna Test...
Esky the husky replied to Chris the Rebel Wolf's topic in General Dog Discussion
The exagerrated features of breeds are usually the first to go, not really surprising that Zeke doesn't have a boxerish face. One of my idiot inlaws had an accidental litter with her boxer bitch and her dads mutt None of the pups had anything resemling boxer faces, although some had more of the boxer style body. -
Collective Nouns For Your Breeds
Esky the husky replied to Liebhunde's topic in General Dog Discussion
A sled of siberians  A heap of huskies -
I like dog names that end with a vowel sound I really like the name Ardi :D

Come on you cant make this post without pics ;) congrats
-
Oh and I just use a collar with the walky dog, as she's a racing sled dog and when in harness I want her pulling like crazy out in front :)
-
They walky dog has a low rider attachment which can be attached to the centre of th wheel too, if you require the dog to run further behind you. I'm not a fan o the springer because of it's quick release. To me that is far too risky to have to recover from a crash and chase down a free running dog. Ive only ever had one low speed wrap around a small pole. Never happened again.

Best Dry Food For Lab Puppy
Esky the husky replied to hannahbanana's topic in Health / Nutrition / Grooming
Stick with the supercoat while your pup settles in. If you can afford it I'd be switching to a more premium food. You end up feeding less volume, and get less coming out the other end onto your lawn. The cheaper foods have a lot of fillers, which pass through the gut quickly. I normally feed a raw diet, but one of the perks of competing in sports is the dry food prizes that come with it. I am very fussy with what I feed and my girl has done extremely well with all the "Earthborn Hollistic" products we've tried. I find it a very economical feed too, but that varies a lot and my breed is known for having an extremely good metabolism. -
Some people end up waiting quite a while for papers. I had to badger a little bit for mine, but in my case the owner who was supposed to take the papers for her puppy accidentally got mine, so they had to get sent back to the breeder and forwarded on to me.

Awww he's seriously adorable

I see what you mean - poultry can be other than chicken/turkey/duck I guess? Exactly, I wasn't saying there was no meat, but they aren't very specific about any of the mea in the food

Endurance Test 2013
Esky the husky replied to Abbiestar's topic in Training / Obedience / Dog Sports
Thanks, I'll probably wait a while until it's published. I assume I'll also have to join dogs SA, which is what put my off last year -
You could always buy some more interactive toys before you go out and get a new puppy :)
