The terriers you have in mind certainly aren't 'low energy' I had two fox terrier x miniature foxy mixes. They were quite the escape artists if left to their own devices - too many skipped walks. I know nothing about fauves, so I won't say anything about them. They seem to be lovely dogs though :D

Our first husky was a total guts. Gave her some.chicken necks and had to shove my hand down and pull it out. She never got necks again

I dislike.otherwise normal names with ridiculous spelling ( in any species) Like Flyte, Tyger that kind of thing. Don't want to have to.spell it out every time. I don't like super common names, Mia/maya, bella, ruby, cooper, storm, diesel, dakota I like names to be 'pet' ish that is to say if I was talking about my dog by name in conversation I wouldn't want people to assume it was a human. Dogs Ive had an opinion in naming were Towser, Didge and Esky

Happy birhday Ziggy :-)

 The I've thought the same with the shopping cart. Haven't bought one yet as I can't find any retail that hold enough weight for decent practice. I have no idea why we don't get bull breeds out there. We even have a trophy given out by the amstaff club of sa, for some sort of achievement in the sport. Maybe bull breed people just don't know about it?

How Often Do We Do The 'annual' Vaccination?
Esky the husky replied to Jess the Lab's topic in Health / Nutrition / Grooming
My vet actually brought the subject up with me. He explained his views and why he was still doing the annual. As I was needing to use kennels that year I went for the annual vaccination. She's due again soon, I'll see what he has to say next time I bring Esky in -

We had one turn up last yeat but i havent seen them out again. Id love to see any bull breeds come out in sa

Our events are all open breed, although since its run by the sled dog club, we get a majority of competiors being arctic breeds. We have sibes, sammies, mallies and a gsd and a newfie competing presently. It is scaled, and there are also classes 25 kg and under - 25 - 35 , 35-45 and then open There are normally prizes awarded for top weight pulled (usually taken out by the big breeds) and also for percent of body weight pulled. Our top for that is a sibe in the 25kg and under who pulls around 33x it's body weight. The dogs have to pull the cart 5 metres and they have a minute to do it. After each round the weight of the cart is increased by one unit- in our case a 20kg sandbag. Depending on your dogs weight they can come into the competiton later as the weight is higher. You dont have to start in the first round. The othe thing is that dogs can pull one round and then sit out the next two. Say Esky pulls 100kg she can skip 120 and 140 but then has to pull 160 to remain in the comp :)

Sled Dog Racing Season Starting..
Esky the husky replied to paddles's topic in Training / Obedience / Dog Sports
Hope you Victorians had a good turn out :) Seems like everyone on my facebook has been getting their dogs running over easter :D Now for the SA folks, the next racing event on the calendar is theSprint race Being held on Saturday the 13th of April at Bonython Park near the city. It's a little season opener that's great to get people interested and a lot of fun! The race is over 100m and each dog competes in three heats. There are two sprint lanes separated by bunting, and two teams take off at the same time and run the race. Each of the three heats you will verse a different team. The fastest time averaged across the heats is the winner. Last year there were three classes that competed seperately. Novice (for beginners, you are able to help the dog by pushing), one dog and two dog South Australian Sled Dog club events are all Open Breed, so any fit and healthy dog can compete This should give you an idea of the sprint lanes. Here they are being erected And here I am about the start off with a borrowed dog in novice -
Lure Coursing In Adelaide - For Non-greyhounds
Esky the husky replied to jacqui835's topic in General Dog Discussion
Yeah it's all at paracombe, (except the royal) as holding the events anywhere else would involve club members moving over a tonne of weights and the cart somewhere else. Hopefully you can work something out with transport :) Shame you didn't post sooner you only just missed our intro day, that was only last weekend -

Are there any poodles that work here is Aus? Are they able to participate in gun dog events?

Couldn't even buy a leash over 2 m for recalls at the pet store due to 'law' but they still sold retractables :/ They have their place, lots of sledding folk use them for toilet runs at races. if they restrain excited race dogs i think theyre doing ok

Lure Coursing In Adelaide - For Non-greyhounds
Esky the husky replied to jacqui835's topic in General Dog Discussion
Well what I was going to suggest, a bit left of field, but still involves running. The South Australian Sled dog club is having a sprint race in Bonython Park on the 13th of April. It's 3 heats of the dogs running in front of a scooter for 100m. Lots of fun! Also completely not related, but the club also has a weightpull event the same weekend. Amstaffs overseas do very very well at it so I thought you might want to give it a go. :D Our club trophy is even sponsored by the amstaff club of SA, but we have none competing at the moment, maybe you could change that ;)
