  1. A lot of my training is weather and work dependant. If it's not hot and I'm not working we can work on running or scootering. If it's warm and I'm not working, something easier, a late walk, fetch or a swim. If it's hot then no training whatsoever. I've been making her work for her meals so there is some form of training every day. Sometimes it's just in reward for for recalls or bringing back a ball. Sometimes its a few practice pulls with a light weight for weight pull ( trying to keep that super fun!) And sometimes if she's already had tiring excercise she can just earn food from a toy.. I'm looking at ways to have a more structured and measured training approach... Yeah wish me luck
  2. Ive got an attachment point at the front of he tray below the cab window. If she rides like that she is harnessed in and i also have longer neckline should the harness attachment break. Now a days she normally just gets crated in the tray though. It's a lot less stress for me and i know she can't go anywhere.
  3. I'm evil. My girl has to earn every last piece of dinner
  4. Just wanted to thank everyone for all the help I got. Very happy with my purchase. I ended up with an all in one grehound 'racing set' The collar and leash remain attached at all times ( no more lazy bf leaving the collar on ) Looks better in real life, my favourite shade of green. :D And it's just a normal flat collar, so we can use it when we go to obedience class.
  5. Esky Become more competitive in racing. Pull HARD the whole track. Place in a 1 dog class and / or WIN a touring class Pull on command in weightpull Pull over 250kg Pull 10x Body Weight Pull 20x Body Weight Pull 25x Body Weight Endurance Test Title and the laughable long shot is entering a rally comp  Me Lose more weight / gain fitness to help with racing. Be more encouraging, lower my expectations. Get to an interstate race Join an obedience club ( if work permits) Get 'F Dog' ( Maybe a 2014 goal)
  6. Oh I didn't know there were 3 total here. How exciting :) He's beautiful. How did you find the whole importing process?
  7. Pretty normal. I normally take esky for an emptting walk before hand. Make sure she goes then she can go on the mill. Wee is 1000000x worse though, that'll trip your fuses
  8. If you do get a sibe please be aware that they are seriously nowhere near as biddable as a labrador. They can be veeeery frustrating for people unprepared, especially if your lab has been easy to train ;)
  9. Anyone able to tell me what their cool coats are like? They're on free shipping now. ( Sorry if this has been brought up before)
  10. LOL looks like the retirement couch of a racing greyhound and the lure
  11. Also note that sometimes these organisations list dogs that come into their care as Alaskan Huskies. More that likely it's just a siberian crossed with something, so don't nessasarily let the 'breed' throw anyone off. I think they're all pretty good at matching the right sibe to the right home. :)
  12. A harness would be a great solution for anyone else who shares my concerns. Esky is trained to pull in harness for weight pull and racing so I like to keep harnesses exclusively for these activities (and restraint in vehicles) I do like the idea of a horse proof rope
  13. Do you know any suppliers of these greyhound leads that you'd recommend ? (if you use them) *Goes off to the greyhound supply stores online*
  14. Are you worried about leads and collars breaking and your dog getting loose? Leather leashes with a brass swivel won't break and fursaver long link chain collars are super strong. Yeah basically. I want to ensure that nothing could break or snap to let Esky free and also something she can't back out of, which is my concern with flat collars. Our first husky girl passed away as a result of uncoordination and a dropped leash. So I still.sometimes get a really bad gut feeling before we go out for solo walkies
  15. I am super super super paranoid about leashes, collars and walking hardware in general. There is nothing I have found yet that I feel 100% safe to use when walking my dog. As a kid I was only ever allowed to walk our terriers on slip chains (although they were way too large) So flat collars worry me a bit as I'm so used to the tightening action. Esky has a martingale collar at the moment and it's pretty good, but I have a feeling there's something out there that would give me more peace of mind and DOL seems like the kind of place that can point me to the right collar. And leads. I hate the traditional swivel clip that most leads have. I found a pig dog supplier who made custom leads with a locking 'bull clips' but again I was dubious on the quality of the make. Hell some days I've resorted to using the chain from our racing stake out and padlocking it to my pants, or using two leads. Any ideas on where I can find good quality gear that can put my mind at ease. * I will add, that there is nothing wrong with the way my dog walks, she trots along most of the time, not a puller, slipper or lunger.
  16. Well I've wanted to be a two dog home since we got our first husky Didge as a couple. She passed away from an accident just I had gotten in contact with breeders for 'Esky' So I guess 'F' dog has been in the pipeline for over 4 years. There have been problems agreeing on breeds, for a while it was to be a Lapphund, but that didn't eventuate. I got right into sled racing, so we've been trying to work out the best breed for us. I've now got my heart set on an import, even if the pups were born tomorrow I wouldn't have the dog with me for almost another year. So I guess we've got about 1-3 years to wait for our next dog if everything works.
  17. Earthborn only because we won some. I dont normally do dry at all
