  1. Wow old thread Have you tried giving your dogs a designated place to let their digging out. A clam shell pool full of sand. You can bury a few yummy treats eg pigs ears in there to encourage them to dig in there rather than the garden

  3. If you're doing this, just be careful and make sure you have a contract that details what is going to happen, will you get stud fees if the breeder lets other breeders use your boy? etc etc Once he has been used at stud will his ownership be transferred into your name? Just be careful, Co ownership is usually very very good, and allows people to get quality dogs they otherwise would not. Buut I have had a few friends badly burned in these instances, so just have a good think. If you're not confident with an entire male, maybe look elsewhere, there's no shame in doing that.
  4. How do you guys work it so that the dogs spend alone time? Seperate runs? Crated in different parts of the house?
  5. Seriously showies can spend in the around the hundred dollar mark for a decent brush. I would never spend that much on something going through my own hair. I'm one step better I'm the crazy dog check out lady. I catch so many people out, buuut I've made heaps of contacts including several showies and groomers, a lady who makes and sells dog treats( who I managed to sell a whole bunch of chicken too ;) ) and today I met a lady buying $160 worth of Schmackos. How's that for crazy! (in her defense she said they were prizes for an agility trial ;) )
  6. Ours took forever, they were accidentally switched with another puppy buyer, so we had to wait until they posted them back to the breeder and then the breeder forwarded them to us. Sometimes these things take a bit of time.
  7. Eventing Pony Hudson is gorgeous! Lovely markings
  8. I found some in Petstock Noarlunga the other day Holly E. You can also order online which I may do when we run out. (Although we did win over 20kgs of the stuff from racing so we're set up for a long time :D )
  9. Our first husky Didge we got at a similar age to your pup. It wasn't intentional, but unfortunately her breeder was a backyarder. Once I saw the vaccination cert which I realized she couldn't have been more than 7 weeks old. It was a mistake but it had been done. We were quite firm with her, not allowing her to bite us at all. We had a few issues though with eating and an unstable temperament. (Which is why I'll only buy from reg breeders) Unfortunately we lost our girl way too young I hope you've done a lot of research into huskies. They are a breed that has the power of reducing you to tears if you're not prepared. The Sibe club of NSW also has some training manuals to look our for. I'm having trouble finding the links but PM me if you want. Please stick around DOL there will be people to help you out if you need it.
  10. I'm not asking about the training here, lets take that as a given that a dog that you have entered in a trial will be trained well enough to compete. What I'm curious to know is on the day of your obedience trial/ coursing event/showing/ agility trial/ flyball comp/ race etc etc do you have a routine to ensure your dog performs to his best? Esky and I are fairly new to our sport, which is dryland sled racing. Our routine is being changed constantly, but here is an outline of what we do leading up to a race. Feed and try to keep her quiet the night before. Toilet before we head off. Toilet again on arrival making sure that she has emptied her bowels (because otherwise it happens mid race ) Then she goes onto her tie out, about 1-1.5 hours before the race I'll make sure she is well watered. Most racers I know swear by adding some mushed up sardines to the water, to make them drink more so that they are hydrated. 10 minutes before the race we put her harness on, and her handler and I get down to the start line. After the race we do a light walk just to cool down after a work out and then water. I don't feed her until we get home, or about 2 hours have passed since the race. I hope that you guys have some pearls of wisdom you wouldn't mind sharing as I feel like I'm missing something important To those who do high impact sports, do you do stretches with your dog before they perform?
  11. Chiming in the 'husky' debate here Husky can be used as an interchangeable term for sled dogs. At races you'll meet people with purebred siberians as well as alaskan huskies which are a different kettle of fish altogether. So I guess it's easier to say I have a sibe or a siberian. ( But it sounds less cool in my display name :p ) Bad explanation but you get the idea
  12. Love the spots! What a character :D What size is she?
  13. You can get harnesses or your dogs that with an loop on the back that you feed the seatbelt through, this helps to keep them in place while the car is moving. IMO much safer than a loose dog which could become a deadly missile if you had a crash.
  14. My partner says, that you either love all animals or you just want something to control. I don't agree 100% with that but it has an element of truth
  15. I really like this :D Soo cute. Have you tried to see what it would look like with rainbow coloured writing? That would add extra levels of awesomeness
  16. Contact your vet and ask for a copy of the records
  17. Wow! Very exciting for you. :D Will you be showing like you'd hoped Not stalking you I swear, I just read the Aussie thread all the time :p Have you picked out names yet?
  18. Eventing Pony who is your Aussie coming from?\ WHich colour?
  19. 6 months is perfectly normal for coming into season. Your dog is hitting adolescence and her body is readying itself for adulthood. People will come along with some better advice than I have to give, but doggy panties aren't going to do squat if the dog is keen, they are only sanitary garments to stop your house becoming dirty.
